Just to clarify: This bat file runs a python script that uses ExportToPDF with data driven pages.

I am having a similar problem (I think). I have a bat file that exports map sheets nightly. I got so used to it working that I was caught off guard when told that no sheets had been exported for several nights. Turns out that, at 10.4, it started failing. When I look at the output, the last three sheets (pdfs) have fewer and fewer features on them.

I like this as a way around the possibility that ESRI might change that horrible GUID thingamajigger.

I have a script tool that creates outputs with unknown coordinate systems. This is as designed. The outputs are profiles, created from an x,y table. Recently (10.3?), the tool has been failing and that seems to be because ArcMap wants to apply the wgs84 coordinate system by default when none is specified. I want it to be "Unknown" or "Undefined" both of which fail when I enter them into the MakeXY_Table_management tool: arcpy.MakeXYEventLayer_management(proftab,"PROF_X","PROF_Y",profptlyr,"Unknown","#") This also fails: arcpy.DefineProjection_management(profptlyr,coor_system="Unknown"), although I can enter "Unknown" when I run the DefineProjection tool from the toolbox. The coord_system input is considered illegitimate. Is it possible to do this? Thanks

Thank you everybody. I do believe I think I may have figured out the problem. Actually, there are two problems: 1) arcpy.ImportToolbox and arcpy.AddToolbox will not load my toolbox. Tech support suggested remaking the toolbox from scratch, which, I must admit, sounds sensible. Apparently, nobody knows how to find this "Line 602" that is causing trouble. 2) The Tool Not Found problem I am getting when I load and run with the gp processor. It's an alias thing. I think it's THAT simple. We have a toolbox that is used by everyone in our GIS dept. It has an alias called, "nrgtools." We copied it to a new location, and intend also to copy the scripts and re-link them. We did not change the alias, so now two toolboxes have the same alilas. Sometimes, I have both toolboxes in my arcmap document, because I am testing or relinking tools in the new one, but using other tools from the old one that have not yet been relinked in the new one. I had a eureka moment and changed the alias in the new toolbox to "nrgtools2" and changed the call to those tools in the script to gp.Custom_Tool_nrgtools2... This seems to have solved the problem.

Do you how a guy would scare up line 602 from a *.tbx file? I'd love to see what that line looks like too! Thanks for you rmessage.

Thank you for your message. The toolbox was copied from its original location and placed in a new location. However, the tool box in the original location won't give up its tools either. It hasn't been deleted and is right where it has been for many years. I have (hopefully temporarily) completely lost the ability to "borrow" my custom tools in other custom tools. I can run the tools directly with no problem. The scripts are in a folder called "Scripts" that is in the same folder as the toolbox.

I have a script tool that uses several custom tools. It used to work fine, and now fails. Our network was recently massively upgraded, and if this is the issue, than this forum is not the place to solve the problem, but the network drives, etc.. are the same, and all my other data, mxds, etc... are not having trouble being found or working like they used to... I cannot use arcpy.ImportToolbox. I get an error: EOL while scanning string literal (NRG Tools.tbx, line 602) When I use gp.AddToolbox, the toolbox loads, but it can't find the tool: Can't find tool (Int2SingPt_nrgtools.) I would appreciate help troubleshooting. I have no idea how to find out what's wrong with line 602 in my toolbox. I actually tried opening it in Word. I also do not know why it can't find the tool specified. The tool is correctly spelled as is the alias. Basically no tools in this toolbox can be found anymore. The toolbox itself is found and loaded. I get a very clear error if I enter the wrong name/path for the toolbox. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

I'm getting this same error except when trying to merge datasets. It's very annoying and can't find any explanation for it. The data is added to arcmap, displays without issue and appears in the drop down list of the tool, but as soon as you run the tool it gives the error 000229. After the tool has failed, when ticking the layers on and off I get the red exclamation mark signalling a broken data link, but the source location is as it should be. I managed to get the merge to work by exporting the datasets into a new gdb. Any ideas what the problem is though? Are the files corrupted in some way and are there other ways to resolve it? I get this error periodically, and I simply don't get it. The file that it "can't open" is perfectly fine, and it is not being editied, so a lock is not the issue (there should not be a lock on it, anyway). It cannot be used as an input. What would prevent a file from being usable as an input?

I believe 10.1 has serious problems with feature layers. Another issue I'm having is that if you move a layer from one data frame to another, tools do NOT work on it at all, the claim being that the layer does not exist. It is trying to access the layer in the data frame from which you copied the layer and since that frame isn't the active one, it can't access THAT layer. This I think is quite reproducible. When I move a data layer to a different data frame, I HAVE to rename it. Also, and this is a very old problem that I had hoped would be fixed by now. If you have, say, three layers with the same name (I know... you shouldn't) and pick the third one as input into the tool, the tool process the first layer with that name. Not a bug, but something that reflects a certain, shall we say, lack of sophistication regarding the relationship between a particular layer and its associated data on disk.

Include me among the EXTREMELY frustrated. Also, I think it is new with 10.1. I'm getting it a LOT, when the layer is perfectly valid and points to a perfectly valid data source. I just sent a support request regarding it. In my particular situation (today), I'm getting it when rerunning results, but not when running the tool directly.

I created a feature service with two SDE layers (SQL Server), and connected to a version called "User Edits." It is a child of DEFAULT. The layers are registered as versioned. All edits that are applied in ArcGIS Explorer Online to the features in the map service get applied to both the "User Edits" version, ad the DEFAULT version simultaneously. Is this normal, or is there a setting I am not setting? I want online editors to only edit the child version, and then I will reconcile and post at regular intervals to the DEFAULT. Is this possible? Thank you,
