Thanks for the feedback, but that doesn't seem to solve the issue. It looks like others had this issue in 10.0, but I'm using 10.3. Seems like a major bug...

Trying to automate some editing tasks and then exporting the files to pdf's. I'm getting stuck with loading the layers into ArcMap. I can do it in the Python window using the standard: arcpy.mapping.MapDocument("CURRENT") df = arcpy.mapping.ListDataFrames(mxd,"*")[0] newlayer = arcpy.mapping.Layer(r"H:\2.shp") arcpy.mapping.AddLayer(df, newlayer,"TOP") but when I try to do it by referencing the mxd path instead of "CURRENT" in Pywin or a script tool (see below), it runs through but doesn't actually load the shapefile onto the map: arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(r"H:\map2.mxd") df = arcpy.mapping.ListDataFrames(mxd,"*")[0] newlayer = arcpy.mapping.Layer(r"H:\2.shp") arcpy.mapping.AddLayer(df, newlayer,"TOP") I've tried the second code in the Arc Python window, and it doesn't work there either. Any ideas? I'm sure it's a simple issue... Thanks!

Hi - I created both a map and layer package to try to access a feature class with ArcGIS Online, but it's not working. If I search just in 'My Content', nothing comes up; if I do the general search from arcgis.com I can find the packages, but the only options for opening are "Open in ArcGIS Desktop" or "Download". How do I get these things to open in AGOL? Thanks!

Ah, I see. I had tried the border expansion but didn't see that you could also do it with the background. Thanks!

There's got to be a way to do this other than converting everything to graphics. What I would like to do is change the space between the frame/border and the top, left, right, and bottom of the title and items. Basically, I want to increase the border offset but have the legend background come with it. I know that I can change all of the gaps within the legend (Properties --> Layout --> title gap, item gap, etc...), but I would really like to make it so that symbols and titles aren't totally flush with the border. I know it's simple enough to convert to graphics, but I want to keep all of the legend functionality til I'm done. Any tricks to make this happen? Thanks!

Hi - I'm trying to get the directions window to pop up automatically as part of a network analyst model. I can get it to generate the file as a .xml or .txt, but it just saves to the folder rather than popping up (the way it does when you click "Directions" from the Network Analyst toolbar. If I save it as a .html file it says that it's been created in the folder, but it doesn't seem to show up at all. Any ideas? Thanks! Toby

Hi - I'm having a weird issue that only comes up in some maps. If I try to add graphics (anything from the Drawing menu - I tried lines, text, labels, etc...) in the Data View, they disappear immediately. The dashed blue selection line is there (with nothing inside it), so I can move it around, resize, etc... but when I click somewhere else it's gone (doesn't show on the map and can't reselect it). Some more info: - I can convert the graphics to features and then they show up - Adding the graphics works normally in the same maps in Layout View - If I click the "Select Elements" cursor to move the graphic around, the graphic shows up while I am clicking on it (but disappears when I'm not) - Right-clicking on the selected invisible graphic acts like there is nothing there As I said, this only happens in some maps that a colleague made, so I'm assuming that he accidentally loaded some weird Data View setting that applies to the Draw menu. Any ideas? Thanks, Toby

Cool, thanks! I was able to do it in a pretty similar way. - I added a "Sequence" field, made the start point "1", the end point "3" and the rest "2" - Then I put in a Sort to make sure the 1 ends up at the beginning and the 3 at the end (realized afterward that you can do this in the Route Analysis window so probably will redo to make cleaner) - Then solved while preserving first and last and it works great

I have about 800 points, in 26 category groups (A to Z). Each category group represents a 'run' or 'route' of stops. What I want my model to do is allow the user to define (by clicking on the map) a start and end location and then solve one of the routes (keep the user-generated points in the 1st and last spots, and reorder the others to the ideal route). So when the model is run... The dialogue box should ask the user for the Run Name and then to click two locations on the map. Then, it should somehow make the two user-selected locations the 1st and last stops in the sequence and solve the route. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm working on a model to automatically generate ideal routes for mail delivery. The first thing it needs to do is ask the user whether he/she is doing a full route or a partial route. Then, it should go to one of two separate processes to either generate directions for a full route (based on the user putting in a single route number) or to generate directions for specific coded stops (entered individually by the user). I have an if/then question at the beginning (Full Run or No) which asks the user whether they are doing a full route (Y or N). However, when I run this as one big model, the initial dialogue box includes the Full Run question (Y or N), a space for the user to enter the full route query, AND the a space for them to enter specific stops. When I make full run and partial run sub-models, neither shows up in the dialogue box at all and the model runs but doesn't really do anything. What I would like is a series of sequential dialogue boxes. The first one should ask "Full Run or Partial Run?" and the next one should EITHER be the run number request OR the multivalue stops request (based on whether the user picked Y or N). Anyone know of a way to do this? I know very little Python, so a pure ModelBuilder solution or just a conceptual explanation would be ideal This is the main model: And this is what each of the two sub-models look like: Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
