I would like to create a 30-minute "drive time area" (i.e. a polygon representing all of the locations that can be reached within 30 minutes, driving from a given point location), except instead of using "drive time," using "public transit time." Put another way, I'd like to create a polygon representing all of the locations that can be reached within 30 minutes, traveling via public transit, from a given point location. My given point location is in Los Angeles, and I have the data for public transit stops and routes, but I'm not entirely certain where to go from here. I assume that I need frequency or schedule data. Any thoughts on where to find that without having to sift through dozens of individual transit schedules? Also, what to do if/when I do attain said data? Other data that I may need?

As a fundraiser, a coworker is looking to run every publicly-accessible street in his hometown. Given the street data and the Network Analyst extension, I think I can help him calculate the shortest route to do so, but I am not entirely certain how. Does anyone have thoughts on how to calculate his route using GIS?

Thank you, Rebecca. I am indeed referring to data usage from a satellite internet provider, not AGO credits. Generally speaking, the primary user will be downloading basemaps and data from our AGO org account, accessing data from GIS servers, and publishing data to AGOL.

I work for a conservation organization with offices in fairly remote areas. We are looking to set up satellite internet to enable occasional GIS work (up to 10 hrs/wk) at one of these locations, but unsure which type of data plan to purchase: 12, 18, or 30 GB.

First, I used Flow Direction and then Flow Accumulation to identify ridgelines. I converted all pixels where flow accumulation = 0 to a point shapefile, then split the shapefile into individual points using Split Layer By Attributes. I built a model to iterate each point shapefile through the Viewshed tool, then to convert to the resulting rasters into polygon shapefiles. I merged all of the polygon shapefiles and selected for only the viewshed polygons. I clipped the polygon shapefile to my preserve boundary layer and added an Area_Acres field to the attribute table and calculated the geometry for each polygon. I selected for the 6 polygons with an area larger than 8,000 acres, and send the resulting polygons and corresponding observer points to the Preserve Manager. Success!

I decided to use Flow Direction & Accumulation to ID ridgelines. I used Model Builder to iterate Viewshed on each point. Need some time to let it process, but I am hopeful. If you have suggestions on what I should do differently, I'd still like to hear them. Ok, these all seem like good suggestions. I need to try out the Viewshed tool a bit before I determine how to proceed. The DEM is clipped to our property boundaries, but I see now that the inholdings need to be represented regardless.

I am looking for the optimal location to place a radio repeater on a 25,000 acre preserve. Therefore, I need to determine a point with the largest viewshed of the property that is within a 1/4-mile buffer of a hiking trail or road.I have layers for the preserve boundaries, DEM, trails/roads, and a 1/4-mile buffer all laid out, but I am unsure how to proceed. I know there are viewshed and observer point tools, but I am not certain how to use them to my desired end.

My organization hosts a petition on its website to support the establishment of three new national monuments. The petition asks signers to provide their zipcode, and when they click "submit" all of their information, including that zipcode, populates a spreadsheet in Google Drive. Using the results to-date, I created a heat map in ArcGIS Online depicting where people who support the monuments live. The petition, however, is still live. I am wondering if there is a way to connect my petition and/or spreadsheet to my map so that new "signatures" populate the map automatically. I have both ArcGIS Desktop 10.3.1 and an AGO organizational account, but not much experience writing code. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
