In short, I was told this was not possible based on the direction of by data source changes and the data source. ( Called Esri Support)

Hello all, Huge question, that is somewhat time sensitive. We have created 3 mxd's in a DEV environment with a lot of symbology classes, definition queries, and label expressions all based off the Joined data fields. Now that we have moved to TEST, our source for the joins need to be connected to an oracle TNS name of TST instead of DEV. The issue is when I remove the current join, I lose all of those definitions. If I try to add the new join first, and then remove the old one, it removes both. Why can't I ONLY remove the old join and keep the new one? This would keep all the definitions in place and switch the source. Is there a way to just UPDATE the join data source instead of deleting it. I would hate to have to save individual layer files for symbology, individual expressions for labels for each feature, and then save the definition queries as well, then manually re apply everything. I hope I am missing something simple here... someone PLEASE help! Thanks, Zach!!

Vince, I am not sure how to give you credit as well, but I went with the previous reply as it solved the issue I had. Thanks for your input and knowledge about the proper way to handle these situations. cheers

Vince, Thanks for the advice on the forum ettiquutte, I thought I did all that but I guess not. The new design is throwing me off. As far as the original questions, I am not to versed in python/arcobjects. Are you saying that I need to script out to drop a feature class, and this cannot be handled in ArcCatalog? If it can, any insight on how I can find out the owner user to connect with, I thought it was SDE. Thanks, Zach

How can I verify what schema is the data owner? I tried connecting with 4 schemas, and the sys user, I do not have an option to select the delete function.

I am connected to the sde as SDE user. I am trying to delete a feature class but get the error : Failed to delete selected objects. Insufficient Permissions [Insufficient Permissions [SDE]]. Can someone please help on how I can grant the SDE user permissions to delete feature classes from with Arc Catalog. I have sys access with sysdba privileges I can run it on. Thanks..

I am working with the LIDAR .tif files off MassGIS. I haven't dealt with rasters in a while. The pixel values (Elevation in Meters) needs to be converted to feet for the purpose of my project. The Coordinate system of the files are in UTM 19 Meters. What would be the standard way to convert the Pixel values, or convert the entire tif, so the pixel values are in feet ? Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The issue was resolved by the following: ArcMap/Arc Catalog was apparently using an Oracle 10g driver to make the connection to SDE. The outside application was using an 11g driver on the machine. The 11g driver is unable to connect to the sde user. Switching the outside application settings on that machine to use the 10g driver solved the problem. An 11g driver works fine on other machines, so it looks like this was an isolated issue with the Oracle Drivers on this box. Thanks all who helped! Zach

If the other machine works I might think about looking for differences between the client machines. Did one of the machines get upgraded to a different version or ArcGIS, are they the exact same build and have same patches? something with the .NET framework from a windows update, etc... That is what is scheduled for today; to compare both. Thanks everyone for your input. Thanks ESRI Support V

Has SDE data ever worked in this software before? I ask because I'm wondering if you are performing this test after upgrading your SDE database. Yes. It works on all other instances of the software. The ONLY machine we are having issues with is this one. Hundreds of other SDE connections have been successful elsewhere using the software, as well as 2 other machines on this network.

Its a proprietary software for our company, so nothing others would have no knowledge of. So I was just doing some side digging if any one else experienced similar issues with other software that uses MXD's / SDE connections.

But there is another machine that uses LDAP, has the same SDE connection setup, and that works fine.

I believe on this machine it is set up to use LDAP first, then TNSNames. Both TNSnames and LDAP have this DB service called the same. So the "Instance" for the connection is just "xxxtest" which points to the database. And like I said, this works fine when in catalog and arcmap.
