Per default, the Directions Widget draws its results (from Geocoding and from Routing) onto the maps default graphics-layer (map.graphics.add). Is it possible to place them onto my own graphics-layer? Is there a shortcut to do this without implementing the whole thing new? I didn't found anything to achieve this. Maybe I don't see an obvious solution. Thanks in advance and best regards, Axel

I noticed you missed the parentheses at the end of the function isSelfIntersecting(), which means it checks if the function exists or not. If so, it returns the code of the function. Yeah, that's it. I missed the parantheses. Doh! I send a comment to js_feedback, because it's also without the parantheses the API-documentation and I simply copy&pasted the code-snippet. 🙂 Thank you very much for your quick and valueable reply. Hi. I'm working on a redlining function, where I want to check if the polygon is selfIntersecting. I check the geometry, but it says that it's always self-intersecting, even if it isn't. The code is really simple. Here are the snippets. initDraw: function() { this._tb = new Draw(this.map); // I DRAW A POLYGON this._tb.activate(Draw.POLYGON); this._tb.on("draw-end", lang.hitch(this, this.addToMap)); }, addToMap: function(evt) { // some stuff this._tb.deactivate(); var symbol = new SimpleFillSymbol(config.geometryStyles.geofencePolygon); // MY GEOMETRY == MY POLYGON var geometry = evt.geometry; var graphic = new Graphic(geometry, symbol); this.geofenceGraphicsLayer.add(graphic); // MY CHECK. Is always alerting, shouldn't do that. :( if (geometry.isSelfIntersecting) { alert("Is Self Intersecting"); } else { // do something... } }, This is the polygon as JSON that I send to the console. It's a simple triangle. {"type":"polygon","rings":[[[2343355.197916185,6843378.9380211625],[2343591.077808191,6843221.286650303],[2343284.7325307247,6843149.029771992],[2343355.197916185,6843378.9380211625]]],"_ring":0,"spatialReference":{"wkid":102100},"_centroid":null,"_extent":{"xmin":2343284.7325307247,"ymin":6843149.029771992,"xmax":2343591.077808191,"ymax":6843378.9380211625,"spatialReference":{"wkid":102100}},"_partwise":null} What's wrong with the check? Why is "isSelfIntersecting" always true, even if I draw some simple polygon? The geometry seems to be a Polygon. Firebug says: - declaredClass: "esri.geometry.Polygon" - type: "polygon" Does the method not work on a drawn geometry? Am I missing something? System: JS-API 3.7, Firefox 25.0 with Firebug. I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. Axel

Woo, it's been a long time... Check out also the nice example with legend symbols by nliu at: https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=9b6280a6bfb0430f8d1ebc969276b109 if you like. The "WorldGrouped" label is part of the model. The rootLabel attribute. Consider my example also as a nice way dealing with stores, models and views.
worldgroupedModel = new tmpdir.CheckBoxStoreModel({
[...]
rootLabel: 'Your text here...',
[...]
});
Also your JSON has a children attribute at the "Gates" layer. Delete that line and the comma behind the last attribute. Axel

Has anyone else been successful in deploying the JavaScript API on their own 10.1 server? Any ideas on what I might have done wrong?! Yes. Check if you have adjusted the two files for each build (normal and compact) the right way. It has to look like this in init.js http:' : location.protocol) + '//' + "mymachine/arcgis_js_api/library/3.3/jsapi/js/dojo/dojo",hasCache in dojo.js location.protocol) + '//' + "mymachine/arcgis_js_api/library/3.3/jsapi/js/dojo/dojo",hasCache Check if the url works (with init.js in the end): http://mymachine/arcgis_js_api/library/3.3/jsapi/init.js Check the API with the Test code provided in the install docu. If you get any error to this point, you don't have to adjust the Services Directory. Check the same after you set Default.ashx as the Default document. Check in IIS, if there is something inherited or not. Sometimes IIS made some problems for me, if someone has defined the Default.ashx as default document up at the C:/inetpub/wwwroot/arcgis_js_api level. And check the test code with different browsers. Maybe you simply have to put your domain to the trusted sites in IE. Depending on your company security levels, IE behaves differently. Someone pointed out here in the forums, that there is a simple step to get the >3.2 versions running for the REST services directory: Create a new css where you import the two css files (tundra.css and esri.css) and point the CSS value in the rest-config file to that css file.
/* used for the ArcGIS REST Services Directory View in ArcGIS
JavaScript. combines the two required CSS files */
@import "http://mymachine/arcgis_js_api/library/3.3/jsapi/js/dojo/dijit/themes/tundra/tundra.css"
@import "http://mymachine/arcgis_js_api/library/3.3/jsapi/js/esri/css/esri.css";
I can open the SDK documentation without problems. Unfortunetaly the samples still point to the internet URL but you can change that quickly on all files with an editor (or with a grep and sed command). HTH.

axxl et al what do you think the best new things are with the new Dojo? Will you do anything new now that leverages the new Dojo? Just curious, thanks. I'm trying to get used to the new syntax and functionalities and collect some experience with it in small apps and demos but I don't force to upgrade existing applications yet. I guess it's a good time to get 'prepared'. Since the examples in the JS-API 3.3 are still the 'old way' I guess the next development steps of the JS-API will lead me a bit further. I will follow the documentation, tipps and tricks and blogs of the community because I think that the adjustments are an ongoing process. And - of course - discussions like this here. There are some topics in this forum, like my "What's new in Dojo 1.8" thread which deal with the new version and I hope that all these threads will help us to get and share the experiences in our evolving community.

I guess, you have a small typo (. /) in the location. Does that regexp mechanism help: http://dojotoolkit.org/documentation/tutorials/1.8/cdn/ Also in the section "Defining and Requiring Modules": http://dojotoolkit.org/documentation/tutorials/1.8/hello_dojo/

For intranet applications Silverlight will stay for a long time as you have your desktop configurations in hand. Internet applications however follow the new technologies. Seems legit. But that doesn't make the conclusion to the "dead" or "alive" status. Although silverlight might not widespread in the internet and Flash mostly (only) for media-streaming and advertising doesn't lead to a strategic drop of the technlogy. But I don't have a crystal ball and cannot foresee it. It depends on your project. Say, you want to plan your app for the next 3 years, I guess Silverlight and Flash might still be a appropriate choice for that timeline. Why ESRI stopped their Web ADF in the first place? That I don't know, but it was more complicated to use and needed a higher entry step than any of the discussed web-apis.

Unfortunetaly I'm not completely in that topic so my hint might be rubbish. You also seem to have a solution. Anyway, you may take a look at the dojox.grid.enhanced.plugins.Printer package. http://dojotoolkit.org/reference-guide/1.8/dojox/grid/EnhancedGrid/plugins/Printer.html It's a dojox package so it might not work nicely. It only seems to work with an Enhanced Grid. But it uses different CSS for layouting the result and the code look quite easy. You may need to download the source of dojo to get an running sample in the directory: dojox\grid\tests\enhanced\.

What is good with JavaScript API? Dojo. What is not so good with JavaScript API? Dojo. 😉 The Esri parts of the JS-API are quite easy and quick to learn. At some point you'll get into the Dojo parts of the API for example for the layout or internal memory data storage. This is more complicated but if you handle the first steps and find a way into the external Dojo documentation, Dojo is also a lot of fun and really powerful. Any limits on the JavaScript that other API's doesn't have? Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8.

Hmmm... featurelayer with on-demand or selection mode depending on your application logic. Or a query where you don't return geometries to reduce traffic. Adjust the featurelayer scales or make the query scale dependent. Check the limit of returned features of an AGS service. For displaying: The js-api documentation contain some samples with dojo-charts (query section). Maybe the query statistics of 10.1 may help for summaries. So choose and test which way is appropriate. Hi. Easy case: I want to refer my Service Directory to a local JS-API. I have only the version 3.2 installed. Since JS-API 3.2, an additional css file is needed to display tiled map services correctly: esri.css. See the "What's new" section of the 3.2 API version: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jshelp/whats_new.html The rest-config.properties file only contains an attribute for one css, the tundra.css. jsapi.arcgis.css=http://mymachine/arcgis_js_api/library/3.2/jsapi/js/dojo/dijit/themes/tundra/tundra.css But to display my tiled map services correctly, I need to refer to the 2nd css file (the esri.css): http://mymachine/arcgis_js_api/library/3.2/jsapi/js/esri/css/esri.css How can I do that? Best regards, Axel
