Mike, Did you come up with a solution for this? I'm just now getting into an almost identical tool and if I can get a spring board on this that would help.

Robert, My crazy method aside, is there a more efficient method that makes more sense? Or is this something you haven't dealt with or attempted? Thanks, Aaron

Robert, Thank you for the link. I looked over it and have been working to get something similar implemented into the TOC widget and here's where I'm at. The data source for the TOC in the link you referenced is a list of the layer infos, but the TOC widget TOC scroller seems to only really be "aware" of the main parents (indices) involved in the scroller if there are subcategories/layers. So what I was attempting to do was to dispatch an event with the TOC data on the dragDrop event. From there, I was going to listen for that dispatched event in the TocMapLayerItem.as and basically create and run another function similar to the createChildren function that would reorder the dynamic layer infos to match the new order of the subcategories/layers and then call toc.map.reorderLayer to redraw the map layers. However I'm having some trouble getting the index of the subcategory/layer being moved to be able to know how to reorder the dynamic layer infos in the new function. Am I WAY off track here? If so, do you have an easier solution/idea that could get me on the right path? Gratefully, Aaron

Is it possible to move the sublayers (children) up and down in the TOC and map drawing order? I have set the ability to drag and drop layers in the TOC, the UI allows the ability to move the sublayers, but the map/toc reorder only applies to the parent layers. Is there a way to allow users to reorder the sublayers both in the TOC and map drawing/layering? Do each of the sublayers have to brought in as ArcGISMapServiceLayers for this to work? Gratefully, Aaron

Robert, Great widget! I wanted to get your thoughts/opinions/plans on the possibility of this widget being used as an individual widget for each individual data layer in an application. For example, rather than using the Query Widget for data layer "A" and data layer "B" separately, the Query Widget could be replaced by the eSearch Widget for both of these data layers. When the eSearch widget was open for both data layer "A" and data layer "B", the data grid would populate with a tab for data layer, similar to the way the Attribute Table Widget works, but with the ability to do spatial and text queries and not have to be bound to the operation layers. Is that possible? And would that be a major development effort? Gratefully, Aaron

KG22, That is funny that you mentioned the workaround of publishing a blank script and then editing the file in the service directory. That is exactly what we have done as well. We just create a script that does nothing but import the arcpy module and then publish that, and edit the python file with the proper code.

I have to agree with KG22. This new publishing method has made deployment of our internal system a NIGHTMARE!!! This process has now introduced SO many more steps to what used to be a relatively seamless and simple process because of the number of scripts contained in my toolbox. I also have a number of scripts in a toolbox that are dependent on outputs from other scripts or json inputs from our front-end that make running each one before publishing extremely painful, and frankly, a waste of time! By doing this, ESRI has single handidly increased my workload and time it takes to do my job. I have also noticed that when publishing my scripts, ESRI takes it upon themselves to REWRITE my code in the service directory, which I have found actually causes some of my script to FAIL as GP services....WHAT!!!!!!! That is a HUGE no no to me. DO NOT CHANGE MY CODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please fix this in SP1, as I am extremely disappointed with the change!

Last post mentioned this was fixed in 10 SP2, I'm running SP3 and experiencing a similar issue. A model I've created that uses Spatial Join works fine in 9.3.1 but crashes in Arc10. I isolated it down to just the Spatial Join command, and created a model that just executes spatial join and it crashes every time. I tested the background geoprocessing on/off solution with no success. Same process works fine in 10 when executed outside of ModelBuilder. The spatial join is one-to-many, closest with a set maximum search distance. Any advice on solutions would be most appreciated. I am having the same problem with spatial join in a python script. Setting the match_option parameter to "CLOSEST" is the only thing that crashes the script. I absolutely need that parameter as "CLOSEST" and am not crazy about having to write the code to loop through the geometries to accomplish that without the Spatial Join tool. Has ANYONE found a cause/solution to this, or is it another overseen esri bug that allows tools to be used as stand-alone from the desktop applications only????

My sincerest apologies! I was able to work through this and get it fixed and working. This was rather frustrating when first attempting to get everything working properly and had many of our services stopped. This was however a result of an oversight on my part and NOT and issue with service pack.

Installation of ArcSDE 10 Service Pack 2 has effectively (verifiably) broken the esri_sde service and cannot be started....rendering sde geodatabase useless without going through a direct connection. I am very disappointed and hope that there will be a remedy for this SOON!

Deborah, This is a known problem that esri has acknowledged. Create random points in a python script added as a tool in a toolbox will not work and will crash the application every time. However, if you install Service Pack 2 for ArcGIS Desktop, the problem has been resolved.

Spencer, Were you ever able to figure this problem out? I am having the same issue and can't seem to find a solution. Is it possible that something needs to be added to the JSON text regarding username and password when adding the map in yourserver/ArcGIS/mobile?
