I am curious about the pros and cons or reasoning for how the demo Local Gov geodatabase is setup in regard to generating id's for feature classes. I notice that in the demo dataset the generate id for Road Centerline is set to use the dynamic value/generate id combination to populate CENTERLINEID whereas the Facility Site Polygon is set to use dynamic value with an expression that is pulling the object id into the FACILITYID. What should dictate which is the better way or best practice? Since I have been migrating to Local Gov Model I have been curious about this especially in an instance where I may have records related to features by an ID. When and if a feature were to be split (because a new road or sewerline is added) and a new ID generated for one of the two features it seems that I would then lose the link between the related record and the full original feature.

I am getting a similar but different error. Any ideas? Scenario: Select File GDB to populate dialog, Rename the xml by adding a few letter to ID Feature dataset I would like to extract the xml for (in this case SewerStormwater I added SSW). I then clicked on the Feature Dataset SewerStormwater in the contents window. Then I click the export to xml button and this is the error I eventually get after it thinks for a moment. Note that if I delete SewerStormwater_Net it errors the same just with the next feature class in line. Error in XML Document processing: An error occurred while loading document 'C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\ESRI\Desktop10.1\AssemblyCache\{C70C3622-9C........\Working\SewerStormwater_Net_Junctions.xml'. See InnerException for a complete description of the error. Jared

Mike, Thank you for the response and I realize that the LGIM is a great starting point that needs to be adapted. We will consider separating the Structures out into individual FC in the future as you mentioned. I am still curious though how others have incorporated tank capacity and type into the model, even if they are only for labeling. I assume that since Tank Type (Elevated,Ground) and Tank Capacity are very basic, yet extremely relevant components of a system, someone has encountered this and may want to share their experience. For now I am adding fields called "Label1" & "Label2" to preserve and use the information for cartographic reasons. Then I can also add Label information about the Production Wells, Pump Stations, and Meter Stations stored in the same FC. Thanks!

Within the Local Gov Model is there a location designed to include water storage tanks and tower information such as capacity, type(ground or elevated), and other information specific to storage? That question would apply then to the rest of the features that are grouped into wStructureType like Production Well and Pump Stations. For the moment I plan on creating a table and joining it but I am curious of other users experience with this situation. I am tempted to remove Enclosed Storage Facility to its own Feature Class but I know that will have a ripple effect when we go to use some of the maps and apps.

Mike, Thanks for clarification. Bjorn, We will look at the popup function a little closer, we were looking at the identify widget because of the selection options(by shape). But using the enhanced search yields the same functionality if the end user wishes to select more than one at a time. Thanks for the suggestion. Jared

Using the Points to Line tool would probably be the best start, although I am not sure if that will create the ZM as you specified. Jeff, The problem I found with Points to Lines were the results randomly connected points without using a sequential # field. So manually entering a sequence of numbers is just as time consuming. I have yet to find a way to calculate a sequential # field on a sorted table. Thanks for the input!

Mike, The layer was published as a Feature Service not a tiled service. See link below. http://services1.arcgis.com/k2QNgWOTJTnwuT9b/arcgis/rest/services/JuneauOfficeLocations_Service/FeatureServer/0 The FeatureServer service doesn't have a REST Identify Supported Operation. From what I have been told if there is no Identify Operation supported on the rest end point for a service the identify widget cannot do anything with it. So is it possible for ArcGIS Online for Organizations to support this operation? If so what do I need to do to enable? We are basically testing AGOL services for use in the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex and the associated widgets available [Much thanks to Robert Scheitlin for his contributions] Excerpt from some information I was given: "Here are the Supported Operations on a 10.11 ArcGIS Server MapServer Service: Supported Operations: ExportMap Identify Find ReturnUpdates Here are the Supported Operations on your 10.11 ArcGIS Online FeatureServer Service: Supported Operations: Query" Thanks, Jared

That is correct, I cannot delete from my content page. If I click the link to get to the ArcGIS REST Services Directory I get 404 not found error. If I open with arcmap it reads fine, the second url below is from the layer properties source in arcmap. The first is from the content details page in AGOL. http://services1.arcgis.com/k2QNgWOTJTnwuT9b/arcgis/rest/services/Juneau+Associates+Inc.%2C+P.C.+Office+Locations/FeatureServer http://services1.arcgis.com/k2QNgWOTJTnwuT9b/arcgis/rest/services/Juneau Associates Inc., P.C. I tried to overwrite a feature service from Arcmap to AGOL. It said completed successfully however I have been unable to access the service in the AGOL Map it was in. Furthermore I am unable to delete it from my list to completely recreate. Any suggestions? I am unable to access the service on both new AGOL maps and Arcgis Explorer online, but I can add it to Arcmap as a layer? Recreated the feature service with another name, recreated all of my settings, popup configurations etc in a new web map. Deleted the web map using the non responsive feature service thinking that this was hanging the service from being deleted. Unshared the service....still cannot delete it.

Hi all, I figured this should be easier than I have found so I thought I would post this before manually entering or using attribute transfer mapping. I have a feature class with 250+ points that have an elevation field. These are surveyed points of a pipeline. What is the most efficient way to create a ZM line for display in ArcScene/Globe? Currently I am looking at creating individual segments of lines connecting each point and then populating Elevation1 and Elevation2 fields in the line feature class using the attribute transfer mapper. With 250+ points and 2 clicks per Elevation field that is over 1000 clicks and a lot of time. Who can shed some light on a better way to do this. Thanks, Jared

Jared, So I am not sure if you figured this out or not but once you create a virtual directory then you get a valid url that you can use as the link (i.e. http://someserver/somedirectory/mypdf.pdf). Reporting back with some of the behavior I have discovered. One I got the virtual directory configured and working just fine, that was my major hangup with getting the pdf files to open at the file location and not in a temporary location. One of the biggest variables has been the browser being used. In Firefox I don't think opening the file is possible without some work around, I get an Action Script Error: 'SecurityError: Error #2148: SWF file http://machinename/flexviewer_esearch3.0_VD/widgets/...swf cannot access local resource \\machinename\VirturalDirectoryFolder\INFO\Filename.pdf. Only local-with-filesystem and trusted local SWF files may access local resources.' In Internet Explorer I get different results for the two link locatioins: Using the following code format the pdf files open correctly from the results: <fields all="false"> <field name="StructureName" gridfield="true" /> <field name="Structure_Rating" gridfield="true" /> <field name="Filename" gridfield="true" alias="Structure Infomation Sheet" hyperlinkgridfield="true" hyperlinkaliastext="Get Infomation Sheet" linkprefix="\\machinename\VirturalDirectoryFolder\INFO\"/> </fields> But using the following code format the pdf files do not open correctly from the popup: This is what I get, a blank IE tab looking the following: http://machinename/flexviewer_esearch3.0_VD/%5C%5Cmachinename%5CVirturalDirectoryFolder%5CINFO%5CFilename.pdf It is essentially looking for http://machinename/flexviewer_esearch3.0_VD/\\machinename\VirturalDirectoryFolder\INFO\Filename.pdf <links>
\\machinename\VirturalDirectoryFolder\INFO\{Filename} <icon>assets/images/w_link.png</icon>
</links> Any obvious reason for this? I have the desired results working on the Selection Widget. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with the Virtual Directory! Jared

Jared, So... You have already tested to see the using a virtual directory to the UNC or physical path does not work with your relative paths in the pdfs..? I have not, so to do this in IIS I would create a VD under my default website(inetpub\wwwroot). I will call it "VD1" and locate it physically at C:\VD1 and the Virtual Path would be /VD1. Where would I go then from here assuming that it correct. Does my flexviewer application code go in the VD1 Physical Location or stay in the wwwroot? I will put the Pdf's in VD1 Physical Location? Then change my flex linkfields to file://///MachineName/VD1/folder/file.pdf I have a feeling I am learning a valuable bit of knowledge here, I have not worked much with network and IIS until recently so I am in the midst of a crash course with more crash than course. I will look into resources for working with virtual directories asap. Thanks Robert, I am amazed at the amount of help you provide to other users! Jared Follow up: I am making some headway, I will complete testing tomorrow and post my results, thanks

I have been fiddling with adding and modifying widgets for a month or so now and I am to the point with this Enhanced Search Widget that I think I need some feedback to determine if what I want to accomplish is even possible. Ultimately my goal is to have a query builder like the Selection Widget or a modified Enhanced Search Widget in Flex Viewer 3.0 where you can link to a defined pdf document on the local network. One caveat is that I need the pdf to open in its native location on the network not in the temp files of the computer it is being access by the widget. This is due to the fact that many other pdf documents are linked from the initial pdf being accessed and the links are defined by relative location. So if the first pdf opens in the temp folder the links are broken. In previous situations this was handled by using the following string "file://///MachineName/folder/folder/file.pdf". My question is in regard to the possibility of either the Enhanced Search Widget (with these modifications http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/60812-Enhanced-Search-Widget-Searching-Multiple-Fields?p=210001&viewfull=1#post210001) or the Selection Widget link capabilities to open the pdf documents at the file location and not the temporary location. Is it possible given the following information I have discovered: In Firefox(13.0.1) the link in both Enhanced(2.9 & 3.0) and Selection Widgets do nothing when I click the hyperlink with the "file:///..." syntax. I found that firefox doesn't allow them without workarounds. FYI - they do open in temp location with normal url"//machinename/folder/folder/file.pdf". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_URI_scheme In IE(9.0.8112...) the following error pops up: Adobe Flash Player An ActionScript error has occurred: SecurityError: Error #2148: SWF file http://MachineName/flexviewer2.5_selectionwidget/widgets/InfoTemplates/InfoPopupWidget.swf cannot access local resource file://///MachineName/Flexviewer2.5_SelectionWidget/INFO/file.pdf. Only local-with-filesystem and trusted local SWF files may access local resources. at global/flash.net::navigateToURL() at widgets.InfoTemplates::InfoPopupWidget/showLink() at widgets.InfoTemplates::InfoPopupWidget/__infoLink_click() And Adobe Flash Player An ActionScript error has occurred: SecurityError: Error #2148: SWF file http:/MachineName/flexviewer_esearch3.0/widgets/eSearch/SearchWidget.swf cannot access local resource file://///MachineName/Flexviewer_eSearch2.9/INFO/file.pdf. Only local-with-filesystem and trusted local SWF files may access local resources. at global/flash.net::navigateToURL() at widgets.eSearch::SearchResultItemRenderer/showLink() I found the following information regarding this situation: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flex/using/WS2db454920e96a9e51e63e3d11c0bf6167e-7fff.html I was wondering if changing the sandbox settings as referred to here might help or adding the swf to a trusted list somewhere that allows it to complete the action, If the SWF files are in different sandboxes (for example, if one SWF file was loaded from the local file system and the other from a network) they must adhere to the following set of rules: - Remote SWF files (those served over HTTP and other non-local protocols) can never load local SWF files. - Local-with-networking SWF files can never load local-with-filesystem SWF files, or vice versa. - Local-with-filesystem SWF files can never load remote SWF files. - Local-trusted SWF files can load SWF files from any sandbox. I am sorry to put so much here, trying to anticipate any follow up questions Jared

Jared, I hadn't encountered this issue personally, but I did a little research on the topic. I found the following bug it looks like you're running into: NIM068774: When using a Windows 7, 64-bit, machine and ArcReader Version 10, the markup tools, Highlighter and Eraser, will not allow the user to change the color or eraser style when using the toolbar. The cursor disappears when trying to change the color. There was also a related bug in service pack 3 with the markup tools, but it didn't exactly look like the issue you are running into. However, I cannot seem to reproduce the issue on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. I tested with ArcReader 10.0 SP0, SP2 and SP4, all worked appropriately. The workaround is to access these tools from the Tools menu > Markup > Pen / Highlighter / Eraser. Do the tools work for you from here? I have a few questions for you regarding this issue: 1. What operating system are you using? Do you have the capability to test on a different OS? 2. What service pack for ArcReader are you using? If you don't have SP4, does upgrading make a difference? 3. Does this happen on a different user profile? 4. Does this happen in all pmf's? If you save a blank mxd and create a pmf from it, does the problem occur? 5. Which service pack of ArcGIS Desktop are you using? I have no doubt that you're running into the bug above, but I'm curious why I don't seem to be having the issue. Maybe the answers to my questions will provide a little insight. Thanks. Tim, thank you for the responding, for some reason I did not get notification of activity on this thread. I will go back and look at the issue again since it has been awhile then reply to your questions. Jared
