Apparently I had an address locator that was looking for a zone field. I didn't have a zone field in my table and I assumed I could just leave the zone field empty and it would ignore that when geocoding. It did work to geocode but was stopping the dynamic functionality. I added a zone field and set it for a blank space so it wasn't NULL and that fixed the problem. Thanks Brad. I had this problem also. My address locator wanted Address, City, State and Zip. I did not have a state field, which was fine to just geocode, but did not work dynamically. Once I added the State field, it started working (also after hitting the refresh button). For anyone troubleshooting this issue, it seems like having a field for all critera of the address locator might be a good first step.

The dynamic geocoding can be accomplished by importing your table of addresses to your map, right click the table in the TOC and select geocode addresses. Choose an appropriate address locator and click ok. In the next window, in the Output section, you will have the option to create a dynamic feature class. If it is greyed out, just make sure the output location for the geocoding results is the same location as where you are keeping your table of addresses. It then appears to set up a relationship class between the table and the geocoding results, making it dynamic. If you make the locations the same and it still won't give you the option to create a dynamic feature class, then it may be a liscensing issue. I believe edits must be made to the table in ArcMap in order for it to change the geocoded points. I've never tried this with an excel spreadsheet.

Hello, I know this is much later than your original post, but I have an answer for anyone else who is wondering how to do this. I had a similar set up (mine was trees points in neighborhoods) and I wanted a polygon representation of growth of our program over time. I performed a spatial join (polygons to points) and chose to summarize the attributes by Minimum. In the resulting table, the minimum year of a point inside that polygon was recorded in MIN_YEAR and associated with the appropriate neighborhood. I then enabled time on that new layer using the time slider button and assigned MIN_YEAR as the date field and set the other preference accordingly. This method doesn't relfect any sort of concentration over time, but it does give you a nice overview of simple growth over time. Hope that helps!

All of my stops are snapped to the road network. I mean to ask if there is a way for the route calculator to take into account how far away one of the stops in from the intersection of two roads. For example, if it is farther than 200 ft from an intersection, the route should go to this point. If the stop is less than 200 feet, the route does not need to turn onto the road and go directly past this point it can adjust the stop to the nearest intersection, instead of the exact stop location. The real life problem I am trying to solve is to create delivery routes for vehicles with trailers that will minimize the number of turns. Where possible I'd like network analyst to recognize where it could cut out turns and replace with a stop at an intersection. Does that help?

Hi all, I am a new user of Netwrok Analyst and I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions about how to solve a delivery route problem. I would like to somehow create a rule for a delivery route that says if a stop is within X feet of intersection, then the route must not go directly past this point. In a way I am asking for Network Analyst to find a "route of best fit" as opposed to just connecting my stops. Any ideas? Thank you, Allison
