Just to clarify things a bit further, i attached a screenshot from Studio and ArcPad. This is a standard export, edits to page caption made straight after the export. I would like to change the text of the tab "SECTIONSO". It currently reflects the name of the related table. I believe this is not possible at the moment.... Thanks for all the replies.

Dear Tim, Thanks for your reply. The post you refer to deals with the <Pages> element of the Editform. I am interested in changing the name for the page tabs that are generated for related tables. I believe these page tabs are listed as <TableForm> elements within the <Forms> section of the Layer Definition. Indeed, by cutting and pasting in Studio you can change the order of Pages and TableForm in Studio, but this doesn't have an effect in ArcPad? Also, renaming the TableForm caption property in Studio does not change its Page tab caption in ArcPad? - Almar.

Dear Forum, I have a feature layer with related tables. On the layer editform these tables have auto-generated page tabs. These page tabs are always listed last, and have a caption that reflects the related table name in full capitals. Is it possible to change the caption displayed on the tab (to make it more user friendly), and change the order of the tabs? Many thanks in advance!

The alternative is probably to construct a string with delimiters and use the Split function.

My problem has been solved, turns out I was working with an incorrect bookmark. The EditForm now shows up with all pre-existing values. Getting the field values of the point being re-edited during the OnLoad of the EditForm is actually quit straight forward by using something like Dim pForm, pFields Set pForm = ThisEventObject 'ThisEventObject = EditForm object If pForm.mode = 2 'Editing existing features pFields = ThisEventObject.Fields etc End If "The Fields property references the fields of the current record in an Edit Form. This allows you to access fields that are not necessarily bound to any controls on the form." (manual)

I'm new to ArcPad development and could use some help with data enrty validation. How can I get ArcPad to alert me if text is entered into a numeric field before closing the form? Thanks. If your form is linked to a geodatabase, you could start off by defining these text and number fields in your geodatabase? ArcPad will then warn the user automatically?

Dear Eric, Thanks for replying. Yes, I was actually trying to use the OnLoad event of the Editform to set values before, but it just doesn't work. The code "pLayer.Edit" is not in an applet, just as part of the AXF layer, and all form fields are tied to feature fields. Strangely enough, if I just use a line like Application.ExecuteCommand ("featureproperties") on the editable layer, it all works fine. The OnLoad event is triggered, and all fields are populated. I'll have a go with your suggestions, let you know the outcome. Cheers, Almar.

Dear Forum, I would like to re-edit a previously saved point feature. So I am trying the following: Set pLayer = Application.Map.Layers("myLayerName") If not pLayer.Editable = True pLayer.Editable = True End If pLayer.Edit intBookmark This opens up the EditForm of myLayerName in Form Mode 2 (="Editing an exisiting feature"). How can I populate the fields of the EditForm with the values that are already stored in the point feature? Currently each field in the EditForm is blank. Thanks for any help! Almar

Hello Nick, My experience is that a combobox or list only shows 1 column, and the values in the list are set with the Values Field property. If you wish to display the descriptive text in the box, simply say something like ObjCboControl.AddItemsFromTable DbfFileName, "Desc", "Desc" ("Desc" is actually a reserved word in ArcMap I believe, perhaps need to change the field name to prevent conflict?) Hope that helps, Almar.

All, I cannot set a form caption in code. The subroutine is called from the page onLoad/onSetactive event. But the form caption does not change. Sub getPageNum(pageNum) Dim numPages numPages = 0 Dim mForm Set mForm = ThisEvent.Object.Parent Dim pPage For Each pPage In mForm.Pages numPages = numPages + 1 Next mForm.Caption = Application.Map.EditLayer.Name + " 1 of " + cStr(numPages) End Sub It might have to do with how you set the form object? Look at the help for the Object Property. I attached an applet that has a form with 2 pages. Switching the pages on the form changes the form's caption.

So the people over at RIA Mobile GIS did some performance testing on the different versions 7-10. You can see the results here: http://riamobilegis.blogspot.com/2010/07/arcpad-drawing-times.html The tests they performed were on a virtual machine, running Windows XP (3GHz processor, 768Mb RAM). ArcPad 10 appears to be the overal winner. Hopefully they can test this on Windows Mobile as well.

In ArcPad 10, you can approximately a lo-res device by using the QuickDraw icon (the one that looks like a rocket, last icon on the browse toolbar). On Advanced Settings > Display Quality you can tune the QuickDraw coarseness by moving the slider. The meaning of the slider for your VGA device is as follows. Coarseness 0 - Original Resolution (i.e. VGA 480x640) Coarseness 1 - Half resolution (i.e. 240x320) Coarseness 2 - Quarter resolution (i.e. 120x160) On Layers > Table of Contents there's the QuickDraw column for your layers. Clicking on that column for your layer, will control the visibility of your layer, i.e. invisible, to wireframe draw, to normal symbology. These settings should improve your ability to operate your data on a hi-res device. The see the effect of the QuickDraw option, see this thread as well. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/7436-ArcPad-10-First-impressions?

One of the goals in ArcPad 10 was to reduce the waiting time in daily workflow activity. You can pan/zoom/capture points without needing to wait for the map to completely draw. That is a strange argument. Imo taking to above approach is basically reducing ArcPad and the device it is on to a standard GPS. Isn't the strength of Arcpad that you have GIS data with you in the field? How can you pan or zoom to something if you can't see whereto? And capturing a point is fine is you just take a GPS fix for granted. But what if you want to compare your GPS location with features on the map before capturing a point? You need to wait for the map to draw. I mention in another post, there's this need QuickDraw tool (the rocket shaped icon on the end of the 2nd toolbar) which can be configured to help your workflow by further reducing the time and resources needed in drawing. Yes I tried the rocket tool, and I can see how you can have a faster map by pixelating. I attached a picture to show what happens though; the person that would use the map in the picture wouldn't be able to distinguish a river from snow or a topographic line because colors were removed? I am afraid that I need more convincing that ArcPad 10 is better than ArcPad 7.1.1.
