In case anyone else has this problem. Problem: ArcReader 10.0 would open a pmf made using ArcMap 10.0 but would not recognize the data from file geodatabases. Solution: Uninstall ArcReader 10.0 and Install ArcReader 10.1. ArcReader 10.1 opened the pmf file published with ArcMap 10.0 and was able to see the file geodatabase sources. What we tried BEFORE upgrading to ArcReader 10.1: We tried the following on computers that had ArcReader 10.0 that could not view file geodatabase data in a 10.0 pmf. The file geodatabase was local to their machine. (We also tried with the file geodatabase being on a network and it didn't work either.) 1. We tried uninstalling and re-installing ArcReader 10.0. 2. We tried a clean uninstall using instructions from ESRI support: It involves deleting registry keys so I advise calling ESRI support. Then re-installed ArcReader 10.0. Still 10.0 could not view the file geodatabase. It could still view shapefiles and online sources. 3. We tried using a repair tool for .NET from Download Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center This didn't work either. Hope this helps someone, Amy Rose Senior GIS Analyst, Stormwater City of Dallas

Hello, A couple of computers are able to open a pmf file but the file geodatabase features are not viewable. Shapefiles and online data show up fine. When I looked at the data source I noticed that the Data Type shows up as "Unknown" but when looking at the same ArcReader pmf on my computer I see that the Data Type is File Geodatabase Feature Class. See below. We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ArcReader on the person's computer and it still would not read the filegeodatabase. The data is local to the machine as well as the pmf file. Any suggestions? Amy problem computer: my computer:

In case anyone else has the issue with GeoDatabase Diagrammer running with errors: I have ArcCatalog 10.0 and Visio 2013 I changed the Trust Center Macro settings to "Enable all macros" and Trust access to the VBA project object model checked. This did not stop the errors. I then went to the File Block settings and uncheked all the boxes. Then the GeoDatabase Diagrammer started working. I left Macro settings as I had changed them. Hope this is helpful to someone, Amy

Hello, We have been using ArcReader for clients that do not have ArcGIS licenses. Recently we changed from creating ArcReader pmf using shapefiles to a file geodatabase. Of about 10 clients, only 3 clients opened the new pmf and got the red "data not found" exclamation points. We are unable to re-create the problem on our computers, even when copying over the file and data from the troubled clients' computers (no red exclamations). We also re-created a simpler ArcReader pmf and still it did not work. Any thoughts? Could it be a .Net framework issue? or similar? on the clients computer? We have ArcMap 10.0 hitting a 9.3 sde. The clients use the same version of ArcReader as we do (10.0) Thanks in advance, Amy

Thanks Jayanta, I tried to install X-Ray but got an error: I guess there is a difference between 10.0 and 10.1. I did install the GeoDatabase Diagrammer, but it gives errors when I run it. One error says my Visio Trust Center settings are not set correctly. I changed the Trust Center settings but I still get the error. It looks like I will be documenting our GIS model the old fashion way! Luckily, there are plans to upgrade to newer versions of sde and ArcGIS.... Thank you again, Amy

Hello, I have started a new job that still uses SDE 9.3 and ArcGIS 10. I am having trouble finding tools that will work on those versions because most links I find reference the now defunct ArcScripts. Any help? Tools of interest for this version of ArcGIS are Geodatabase Diagrammer, X-Ray and anything else of help. Is there a repository of tools/scripts for the older versions of SDE and ArcGIS? Thanks in advance, Amy Rose

Well, I have figured this out. User error but with a helpful hint on correcting the issue. I accidently added a feature class to the replica that did not exist in the child. The replica sync'd fine until there was actual changes in that feature class. Instead of re-building the replica (which would have been painful), a GIS colleague recommended deleting the feature class out of the GDB_ITEMS table in SQL, making sure the path is correct. I did back-up everything before trying this solution. I hope to ask ESRI at a meeting later this month to see if this is an "OK" practice or not, but it worked for us (so far). I will try to remember to comment on what ESRI says. Hope this helps someone, Amy Rose

We use SQL Server 2012 and have ArcGIS. I created a connected one way (Parent to child) replica from database A to database B. It has been working fine, but the last sync gave me a "no support for this geometry type error". I looked at the feature classes and didn't find any strange geometry issues. I compressed, rebuilt indexes and analyzed the database as well. It still would not work. I kept the non-working replica and created a new replica (register exisitng data) and the new replica worked; however, new changes in database A did not sync over (because I am registering exiting data). What are my options in this scenario? I would prefer not having to delete the existing data out of database B and then start over. Database B has data syncing from several other databases. Any help appreciated, Amy Rose

Hello, I have been trying to use the create replica footprints geoprocessing tool (as well as on the distributed database toolbar). It worked for one of my databases except it only showed one replica boundary and not the several that are actually in use. The other databases just completely error out and output an empty feature class. Each of our Geodatabases have several replicas. Some are two way disonnected and some are one way connected. The errors I am receiving: ERROR 000582: Error occurred during execution. The row conatins a bad value Failed to execute. Questions: Any one run into the same problem? Should I be connected to the database in a certain way? Such as the user who created the replica? Would appreciate any help on this, Amy Rose

Thanks Freddie, I didn't get an email about your reply. I will take a stab at C#, but I have barely worked with it. Amy

In case anyone else has this problem: Spoke with ESRI Tech support. You have to use database authentication with disconnected replication... Problem solved!

Hello, I want to take feature classes (say a point feature class) from different SQL geodatabases and merge them into one without losing the global ids. All the feature classes have the same schema, etc. I have looked at the following help topic: ArcObjects 10 .NET SDK Help that talks about how you can do this with C# or .Net I'm just wondering if there is a way to do this with Python. I don't have Visual Studio and I am more comfortable with Python. I am also looking to see if there is a way to join/merge exported recordset XML (maybe calling an XML editor?) to also get around this. Thought I would ask before I went down a rabbit hole. Thanks, Amy

Hello, We just installed ArcGIS Server 10.2.2 (AGS). The service account on AGS is a domain account that is also within our SQL Server database (operating system). We have tried several ways to create 2-way disconnected replication using Operating System Authentication. Our main users (who are Publishers in AGS and hoped to make replica owners, set up database connections, etc) are set up on SQL Server as follows: Server role is public Mapped to the database in SQL as db_datareader and public Membership at the database level is db_datareader Privileges given via ArcCatalog to the data layers is SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE for their operating system logins However, when they tried to create geodata services and replicas, the remote user could see the data using their AGS built-in user name and password BUT the sync would not work UNLESS we gave the AGS service account db_owner membership at the database level. I would have thought this unnecessary for the service account. Because setting db_owner for the service account seemed like a security risk, we are currently using database authentication for setting up replicas, geodata services and database connections and it works. This database user is set up this way: Server role is public Mapped to the database in SQL as public It does not have any Membership at the database level It does have its own schema at the database level.... (I tried doing the same with the service account OSA but it didn't seem to make a difference) Privileges given via ArcCatalog to the data layers is SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE for this database user My questions: Is it possible to set up operating system authentication for 2 way replicas? Why does a database user with "seemingly" less permissions work without db_owner set on the service account? Does both AGS and SQL have to have operating system authentication? Currently we have built-in for AGS and operating systems plus database users on our SQL. Our remote users are not within our active directory. Have we missed something on the service account permissions? Any pros or cons not using operating system authentication? Thank you in advance, Amy Rose
