The real correct answer is that NC One Map switched over their service URLs several weeks ago from DOT com to DOT gov. So, the WMS layer I was pointing at is http://services.nconemap.gov/arcgis/rest/services/NC1Map_Parcels/MapServer/1 Works well now! Thanks to David Giordano at NC One Map for helping me sort this out.

Thanks for confirming that, Robert. I don't know much about WMS management. How do I go about encouraging NC One Map to improve the reliability of their service?

Thanks for finding those spelling mistakes, Robert. I've set <fields all="true"> and commented out the fields names, but am still experiencing the same issue.

Hey all, I am using Robert Scheitlin's eSearch widget (version 3.0), which is hanging (or maybe timing out?) on a single WMS. I hope there is an obvious solution. Here's the WMS I am querying: http://services.nconemap.gov/arcgis/rest/services/NC1Map_Parcels/MapServer/2 It contains parcel boundaries for all 100 counties in the State of North Carolina. The last time I know my widget was working was when the service had 25 counties' worth of data. I have no issue running a query against the WMS from the query URL, although it takes about 45 seconds. http://services.nconemap.gov/arcgis/rest/services/NC1Map_Parcels/MapServer/2/query CNTYNAME LIKE 'Wake' AND SITEADD LIKE '109 E%' Within my Flex Viewer, however, the widget hangs. That service does have a parcel centroids point layer with all the same attributes. I can run the same query against this (layer 1) and return values in half the time. The eSearch widget still hangs, though, when querying this point layer. Is there a built-in time limit for the eSearch widget? Is there anything else I am missing? Thanks in advance. --ASE. PS My code is attached. It looked wacky when I tried to embed it.

User error. I'm posting the solution here in case anyone else ever runs into this. The definition query used in ArcGIS to generate the fourth WMS - Status = 'SO' OR Status = 'SD' OR Status = 'SA' OR Status = 'BF' - was not contained within parentheses. So, when we applied the definitionexpression in Flex against it, we got the equivalent of this: Status = 'SO' OR Status = 'SD' OR Status = 'SA' OR Status = 'BF' AND definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" I added parentheses to the definition query and eveything worked fine.

Here's a <definitionexpression> problem I hope somebody can help me with... We have a single feature class from which we generate four web map services based upon a definition query on the STATUS field: http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_National_Register/MapServer/0 http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_Study_List/MapServer/0 http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_Determined_Eligible/MapServer/0 http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_Surveyed_Only/MapServer/0 The first three services are defined using a single parameter, ie Status LIKE 'NR%'. The last has four parameters (Status = 'SO' OR Status = 'SD' OR Status = 'SA' OR Status = 'BF'). The last is also the only of the four with a scale dependency attached to the display. I have created a Flex site that further applies a <defintionexpression> against these four WMSs. The definition expression works for the first three services, but not the last - all data in the service display. Here's the code from the config file: <layer label="Surveyed" type="dynamic" visible="true" alpha="1" url="http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_Surveyed_Only/MapServer" > <sublayer id="0" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Surveyed.xml" definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" /> </layer> <layer label="Determined Eligible" type="dynamic" visible="true" alpha="1" url="http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_Determined_Eligible/MapServer" > <sublayer id="0" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_DOEs.xml" definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" /> <sublayer id="1" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_DOEs_Bdys.xml" definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" /> </layer> <layer label="Study List" type="dynamic" visible="true" alpha="1" url="http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_Study_List/MapServer" > <sublayer id="0" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_SLs.xml" definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" /> <sublayer id="1" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_SLs_Bdys.xml" definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" /> </layer> <layer label="National Register" type="dynamic" visible="true" alpha="1" url="http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_National_Register/MapServer" > <sublayer id="0" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_NRs.xml" definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" /> <sublayer id="1" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_NRs_Bdys.xml" definitionexpression="Descriptio LIKE '%Rosenwald%'" /> </layer> Oddly, the pop-ups appear to work only for those points (in the last service) queried by the defintionexpression. I suspect the problem has something to do with the multiple parameters, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Hey all: I am using the 3.0 version of the Edit Widget and running into problems. The widget sees my SDE feature layer, and allows me to add and delete features. However, none of the fields in the layer display in the Attributes window (see the first attached screen capture). As a consequence, I cannot edit the attribute data and can only close the window or delete the feature. There's no OK button. Furthermore, any action I take using the widget freezes the screen, navigation tools, etc., and forces me to refresh the site. Any edits i have made to the geometry are reflected only after I refresh. In the service, there's a section called Templates that includes only two prototype attributes (see the second attached screen capture). Is this the problem? I don't see anywhere in the SDE nor in the MXD where I can alter a prototype template. All of the fields in the feature class are editable; most, but not all, are turned on; there are a couple of domains for fields like County and MapStatus. Here's the site: http://gis.ncdcr.gov/cleansite/default.htm?config=EditTest.xml Feel free to test drive it. Please don't delete anything existing except the black X boxes or green check boxes though! --ASE.

Wow, thanks for all the help you are offering, Rhett. This is great. It may be a couple days before I can test this; getting pulled in different directions right now. Quick note about the photos -- we are storing them online so they are accessible to other clients. Each layer's pop-up references the photos in the <medias> tag with this code: <medias>
<media type="image" caption="{Site_Name}"
imagesource="http://www.hpo.ncdcr.gov/photos/{Site_ID}.JPG"
imagelink="http://www.hpo.ncdcr.gov/photos/{Site_ID}.JPG" />
</medias> So you see that EVERY feature's pop-up attempts to go find a photo (every feature has a Site_ID), although only a very small number currently have one.

Thanks, Rhett, I appreciate it. These are some good ideas and I'll incorporate one of them. Still, sure seems like a workaround to what should be accomplished within the definitionexpression!

Yeah, I was hoping not to have to use two different services to accomplish this, since I don't want the TOC to show the layer twice. I hoped I could just use flexviewer's definitionexpression on a binary field (ie, PhotoAvailable) to get two different pop-ups. For the moment, County serves this purpose, as all points in a given county either have or do not have photos.

Rhett, did you ever find a solution for this problem? I am running into the same issue. I cannot get both of my two defintionexpression clauses to function properly simultaneously. With the code below, only the second expression takes affect. <layer label="NC Surveyed Only" type="dynamic" visible="true" alpha="1.0"
url="http://gis.ncdcr.gov/ArcGIS/rest/services/NC_Surveyed_Only/MapServer">
<sublayer id="0" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Surveyed_NoPhoto.xml" definitionexpression="County <> 'Brunswick' AND County <> 'Bertie'" />
<sublayer id="0" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Surveyed_Photo.xml" definitionexpression="(County = 'Brunswick') OR (County = 'Bertie')" />
<!-- sublayer id="0" popupconfig="popups/PopUp_Surveyed_Photo.xml" /> -->
</layer>
