I finally found the issue! When publishing a service that you want to have copied instead of referenced in your collaboration, you must ensure that the following fields are visible in your table: created_user created_date last_edited_user last_edited_date GlobalID I was hiding some or all of those fields in every service I published. The annoying part is that if I made those visible and used the overwrite service option, it did not immediately switch to a reference. That wouldn't happen until the automated sync occurred (we have it set to go at midnight every night). I hope this saves people some headaches in the future.

Currently, if a user with the ability to create a group opens Community Analyst for the first time, they are forced to create a project before they can use the app. This creates digital clutter in our organization because we share a project among all Community Analyst users to reduce the number of duplicate reports run and to ensure that everyone is using the same geographies. Since everyone uses the same project, the forced project just sits in the user's profile and also creates a group in the organization that does not need to be there. The group has no metadata and often gets named something vague like "My Project" which makes administration of the portal challenging. I propose giving all users the choice between using a project shared with them or creating a new project. Leave the option open so that users can take the guided tour when it's appropriate, but otherwise, save us from creating unnecessary content.

@TylerGraham2, thank you for your comment! It put me down the right path to find a solution. From what I read in the Python API documentation, the only way to export features from a hosted feature layer is to export them into a new item in your ArcGIS Online account (or presumably Enterprise Portal, if that's your environment). I didn't want to manage the overhead of creating a new item, downloading it, and then deleting the web item, so I decided to rewrite the script to download the entire hosted feature layer using arcpy.conversion.FeatureClassToFeatureClass() function. Thankfully, that arcpy function worked even though I was pulling hosted feature layer data into a file geodatabase on my desktop. Once I had a copy of the entire point feature class, I used a SQL query in arcpy.management.MakeFeatureLayer() to select the records that I wanted to put into my master feature class. For those who don't mind creating a new item in your portal, you can use arcgis.features.manage.data.extract_data to export the results of a query into a separate file geodatabase (or shapefile, or csv, etc).

Thanks, @TimoT! I'm in compliance with everything on that page. I've got a ticket in with Esri Tech Support now. We were on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes yesterday with no resolution. Fingers crossed that we figure something out!

I have a S123 set up with the web builder to collect points. By default, S123 creates an attachment layer to collect photos and files, but we do not need that functionality. Here's my code snippet (note that I have already defined the max_date variable in a previous step not in this section): feature_layer = FeatureLayer(feature_layer_url, gis=gis)
given_date = max_date
query = f"submission_date_and_time > timestamp '{given_date}'"
selected_features = feature_layer.query(where=query)
print(f"Number of features selected: {len(selected_features.features)}")
if len(selected_features.features)>0:
output_feature_class = r'C:\path\to\Default.gdb\SelectedFeatures'
copy_features = arcpy.management.CopyFeatures(selected_features, output_feature_class) No matter what I try in line 10 - CopyFeatures, ExportFeatures, truncate an existing table and append the selected records - I cannot get those selected features out of the S123 feature layer. I suspect that the attachments functionality is complicating the process, but I can't isolate a specific issue to troubleshoot. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can get these points exported to a FGDB?

Hi @DanMoore - the issue turned out to be a sharing setting. As it turns out, you cannot set the Map Image layer's sharing to a more restricted setting than the Feature Layer. I had the Map Image layer set to owner only and the Feature Layer set to owner + 1 group. That doesn't work!

I have a two-way distributed collaboration between ArcGIS Online (host) and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal (version 11.1). I published a feature layer with data from an enterprise geodatabase to Enterprise Portal. I made sure to check "Enable Sync" in the feature layer properties before publishing. When I share the layer to the collaboration, it is always referenced instead of copied. WHY?

Thanks, @FasilTiru. Here's my problem: the first time a user opens Community Analyst, they are forced to create a Project. Is there any way to bypass that step if you are a Creator User Type with a Publisher Role?

@FasilTiru - Just to make sure I'm understanding what you're saying: if I create a project and then delete the group, I can still go into Community Analyst and work on that project? In other words, am I correct that the group does not have to exist for CA to function?

I understand that Community Analyst automatically creates several items in ArcGIS Online that are required for it to function. I'm wondering if there is a way to have multiple users share those same items so that we don't have 18 different "My Project" Groups to manage. In other words, I'd like to have one Community Analyst project that has our geographies of interest saved so that a user can go in, run the report(s) they need, and be done.

My mission today is to put our Distributed Collaboration to the test to see what works and what doesn't. For background, I have a two-way distributed collaboration set up between ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2 and ArcGIS Online. Here is my current testing scenario: A user creates two web layers, two web maps, and a Story Map that references them in Portal The user shares all items to ArcGIS Online via the Collaboration After the Story Map transfers, the user decides to remove one of the maps. They remove it in Portal, then saves and republishes the Story Map. Does the Story Map update? Based on my testing, the Story Map does not update. The metadata on the item page does, but the map that was removed in Portal is still in AGOL. Seeing that the map was not removed in ArcGIS Online even though the metadata did, the user removes the Story Map from the Collaboration. The user checks ArcGIS Online and discovers that the Story Map is still there and still has the icon that indicates that it was received via a distributed collaboration. In my mind, there are two issues here: When the user removed the web map from the Story Map, the collaboration should have recognized that and made a new copy of the app in ArcGIS Online. When the user removed the Story Map from the collaboration, it should have been deleted from ArcGIS Online. I'd appreciate feedback on these two assumed issues!

I resolved this issue. Instead of being copied, the layer was shared to AGOL as a reference. So, when I opened the item page, it needed permission to access the data in Portal. I fixed it by setting the sharing level on both the Map Image Layer and the Feature Layer to Everyone and sharing both with the collaboration.
