In a previous project, I created a custom tab that contains one button that opens a dockpane docked with esri_core_contentsDockPane. In a completely separate C# project, I want to create a new button and add it to the same custom tab. The goal is to have a custom tab for all of our organization's tools - we don't want them in the "Add-In" tab - and to be able to have different programmers add their tools to this custom tab. Can someone explain the best way to do this with an example config.daml file if possible. Thanks!

I believe the backup file *.agssite generated from the admin site is just a zip file containing the config-store and directories folders. I tried zipping those folders, naming it backup.agssite, then using that file to import site and it worked. However, I have not tried this on a multiple machine site. Hope you find a solution!

I submitted an idea to continue support for registering Oracle Spatial layers without adding the SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA field to the underlying table. Please promote this idea if you would also like to see this option supported : https://c.na9.visual.force.com/apex/ideaView?id=087E0000000kAgxIAE

Prior to 10.3, while registering an Oracle Spatial (SDO_GEOMETRY) layer using the SDE command line, if you did not include the option for CAD data in the entity mask, the underlying table was left as-is (no additional columns were added). However, that option was not ported over in 10.3 with the deprecation of the SDE command line, so anytime you register an Oracle Spatial layer in 10.3, regardless of the type of geometry (point, line, area, CAD, etc.) a new field named SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA is automatically added to the underlying table. Adding this field changes the structure of the table unnecessarily and may break any script, application, form, procedure, etc. that relies on that structure to remain as-is. Please continue to add the SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA field only when the user explicitly chooses the CAD data option.

Hi Melissa, We have been using Oracle Spatial with ArcSDE for many years and have never had the SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA column inserted. It has been a very clean separation between ArcSDE and Oracle Spatial and we would really like to keep it that way. When you register an Oracle Spatial table using the command line, everything ArcGIS needs goes into the SDE schema and the business data stays as-is and untouched. We are a large agency with many program areas developing datasets with Oracle Spatial and there are hundreds of scripts and processes built around these datasets that could break if an additional, and unneeded column is thrown in there. So far technical support has said there is no workaround and that column is required. As we’ve shown for many years that column really isn’t required, so please add the option to NOT have that column inserted. We appreciate any help you can provide with this!

We are having similar issues with the SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA column being created in tables that contain the Oracle Spatial geometry type when we use the Register with Geodatabase tool rather than the SDE command line sdelayer -o register. Having a new column added to these tables is not ok. If we register the layer with the command line THEN right click the layer in ArcCatalog -> manage -> Register with Geodatabase, the SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA column is not created. Is there a way to use the Register with Geodatabase tool and NOT have the SE_ANNO_CAD_DATA column added to the table? Thanks.

Are your layers registered with the geodatabase? They will need to be to work with gdb_items_vw. Here is a code snippet for an example of extracting the xml metadata with Java from Oracle/ArcSDE 10.2. You don't have to use two stylesheets...just depends on your requirements.
String strLayer = layerName;
String connectionURL = null;
String connectionID = null;
String connectionPW = null;
String driverString = null;
connectionURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@server.domain:port:instance";
connectionID = "username";
connectionPW = "password";
driverString = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
Class.forName(driverString);
sqlconn = java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(connectionURL, connectionID, connectionPW);
stmt = sqlconn.createStatement();
rset = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT uuid, documentation FROM sde.gdb_items_vw where upper(name) = '" + strLayer + "'");
rset.next();
java.io.InputStream xmlStream = rset.getBinaryStream("documentation");
if (xmlStream != null) {
URL url1 = new URL(<URL to ArcGIS2FGDC.xsl>);
InputStreamReader isr1 = new InputStreamReader(url1.openStream());
StreamSource xslSource1 = new StreamSource(isr1);
TransformerFactory tFactory1 = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Transformer transformer1 = tFactory1.newTransformer(xslSource1);
Source schemaSource = new StreamSource(xmlStream);
StringWriter writer = new StringWriter();
StreamResult result = new StreamResult(writer);
transformer1.transform(schemaSource, result);
StringReader reader2 = new StringReader(writer.toString());
writer2 = new StringWriter();
URL url = new URL(<URL to your own xsl>);
InputStreamReader isr2 = new InputStreamReader(url.openStream());
StreamSource xslSource = new StreamSource(isr2);
TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
Transformer transformer2 = tFactory.newTransformer(xslSource);
transformer2.transform(new javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource(reader2),
new javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult(writer2));
}
xmlStream.close();
rset.close();
sqlconn.close();
return(writer2.toString());
