Wait, I got it to work. Not sure if it mattered, but previously, I was entering the parentheses from the keyboard instead of using the () button in the SQL Query window. This worked: "PLANT" NOT IN ('35','19') Thanks for your help.

Thank you Kyle, but I haven’t been able to make that work, either. In the Layer Properties box I have “Label features in this layer” checked. Next to “Method” I’ve selected “Define classes of features and label each class differently.” I have two Label Classes. One is the default class, whose "Label features in this class" I have confirmed by checking and unchecking. The second is the EXCLUDE15 class, whose "Label features in this class" I have checked. In the EXCLUDE15 class I've tried "PLANT" NOT IN '35' and "PLANT" NOT = '35' just to see if I could exclude labeling for that one value. With either of those, none of the 200 values are labeled.

Question re: Label Manager in ArcMap 10.4 Trying to create a label class using the "Not" function in SQL Query to exclude certain values, and can't seem to make it work. Here's an example - I have, say, 200 different PLANT types, 1 thru 200. I want to create a label class that includes all but the fifteen PLANT types 35, 57, 62, 83, 86 .... So in the SQL Query I enter: "PLANT" NOT '35' ... etc. Yes, I know there are ways to approach it other than using the "Not" function. But I'd like to do it using the "Not" function if there's a simple way to do that. Does the "Not" function not work in creating label classes in this way? Or is there a trick to it that I'm not seeing?

If anyone has the names and contact info for one or more Geneq SXBlue distributors in the U.S., I'd appreciate having those. We're window-shopping for an SXBlue II + GNSS and want to pick the distributor we do business with. The company hasn't been forthcoming with distributor information. All they have been willing to do so far is to pick a distributor for us and have that distributor call us. billy.k.lemons@resourceanalytical.com

I'm shopping rugged Windows tablets on which to run ArcPad 10, probably to be paired with something like an SXBlue II + GNSS. Preferences: 1. With bluetooth to pair with the SXBlue or other bluetooth enabled receiver. 2. With SD card. 3. With or without its own on-board GPS. With is better, of course, so that it can be used stand-alone without a separate receiver in situations where higher accuracy isn't needed. 4. Good visibility in open sunlight. 5. Good battery life. (Gosh, I wish I could run AAs in everything.) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Not interested in Trimble units. I'm thinking that even one of the better Windows Mobile smart phones might be a possible choice, if ArcPad will run on it. I have an old HTC Tilt Windows Mobile smartphone on which I run ArcPad 7. Now looking at the latest models of HTC smartphones, as they run Windows Mobile 6.5. Thanks.

Use the Build Pyramids tool and then adjust the Environment Settings in the tool. Under Raster Storage, select Bilinear for the pyramid resampling technique. This should correct the display after the tool is run. Billy, I have sent you the same response with the incident. Please let me know if you have received the message and if you have any further questions. For new users, open ArcToolBox by clicking on the little red toolbox icon on the toolbar. In ArcToolBox, go down to Raster and click to expand it. In Raster, go down to Raster Properties and click to expand it. You'll see the Build Pyramids tool there.

Billy, To find out the requested information, right click on the raster and select properties. You will see Pixel Depth listed, which will tell you if its 1 bit, 8 bit, etc. While you are checking that, please check and see what kind of compression you have. Paul, If you look in Windows Explorer does your raster have .rrd or .ovr file? If a .rrd file, try renaming it, and then build pyramids, and see if that changes the display as you zoom in. Patrick For anyone new to ArcMap who has this same problem and finds this post in the future, what he means is to right-click the name of the raster image in the Table Of Contents window in ArcMap after you have added the raster to ArcMap. He does not mean to right-click the raster file where it is stored in a folder on your computer.

If you open the AdvancedArcMapsettings.exe under /Program Files/ArcGIS/Utilities, then you can adjust the default option when you build pyramids when rasters are added to ArcMap. Select the Raster tab and then the default resampling mode. Otherwise you can change the environment settings in ArcToolbox to reflect the selection of Bilinear for all pyramid operations. Be sure to save the Environment Setting Choices to your template or the selection will only apply to that particular map document. For those of us who don't know ArcMap inside and out and who work nights and weekends while tech support is closed, it would be so much less frustrating and hair pulling if you could add just one little sentence to tell us where in the ArcToolbox haystack we could find the little environment settings needle.

Am stacked up and in a rush to meet various deadlines. So if I don't review, test and respond really soon, it's not a snub. It just may take me a day or two to check it all out and reply.

I am current on maintenance. But this issue arose during the weekend when Support is closed. Thought I might get a quick resolution here. I have a support incident rolling and will let you all know the fix when that is completed. This might have something to do with electing not to build pyramids upon first bringing the tif into 10.1.

Added a tif file, white paper/background with black writing. Suddenly, now when view is zoomed out to a little bit lower scale, the colors of the imported tif are inverted as a negative, with white writing on a black background. Where is the control to stop this from happening?
