Hi Jim, Nice one! yes, it was due to the symbology that had been applied to the raster. Thanks very much!

Hmmm, I think a degree at the equator should be approximately 69 miles (111 kilometers) so, .85 of a degree maybe around 100km... and where in my image it is blocky (in the bottom left), this block size is about 100km, so that is the expected cell size. the whole raster should be cells of this size, I would think, according to how point to raster works.

Hello, I am using the point to raster tool, summing by "theCalcField", and using a cell size of .85 degrees. So I expect a full blocky-style raster. Why then does the tool create a raster as though each cell is considering values from outside it's own cell (as per many other spatial analyst tools)? This is my command. arcpy.PointToRaster_conversion(LOCATIONS, theCalcField, RASTER_LAYER, "SUM", "NONE", "0.85") And an image of the raster:

Hi I am not using the LM service... my arcmap install on this box is stand-alone. Everything runs when the user has admin permissions, but I cannot determine where permissions need to be set so that I can run the sched task without admin permissions. Does anyone know which folders are read to get the licensing for a stand-alone install? I'm using process monitor, but it's not raising any alarm bells. I did notice in my reg keys that FlexNetService was set to true.. i tried making this false and re-running but no luck. Thanks, Mike

Yes, and I have Spatial Analyst installed, authorized, authenticated, polished & shined, and ready to go. But the fact of the matter, is that my check for licenses needs to go through the Desktop version of the geoprocessing python scripts to see this.

So, the solution I linked to above describes what to do if desktop level of licensing is interfering with a server level of licensing. What's the solution for the problem where I have a server level of licensing blocking me from running python scripts that rely on a desktop level of licensing? From what I've read, one cannot revert or degrade their level of licensing, and I would not want to do this and run the risk of ArcGIS server then not functioning properly. What I don't get is "why are desktop and server part of the same spectrum of licensing??!!" Maybe I can register spatial analyst extension with my server license? has anyone done this ever?

I haven't tried yet, but this looks to be a solution: http://support.esri.com/es/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/39029

Thanks for helping out with this. How do I edit my (Python?) system paths? It's very strange, because I've had this setup before, and it's worked fine. Thanks again.

Hi Matthew, A "check-out" would occur after checking and seeing that the license is available - I am being told that no license is available, so I cannot proceed to check it out. Besides, a check out would not apply for a stand-alone license, would it? only if there's a license server (which i don't have) I think the real clue is when I print out this statment: arcpy.AddMessage(arcpy.ProductInfo()) and I get as a result: ArcServer This box has arcgis server and arcmap installed. Perhaps there is a conflict with the "License Levels". Perhaps at the arcserver license level there is no access to desktop extensions via scripting? Someone from ESRI?

thanks for replying James: I have these lines: if arcpy.CheckExtension("Spatial")=="Available": do something else: arcpy.AddMessage("Spatial Analyst Licenses status: "+ arcpy.CheckExtension("Spatial")) arcpy.AddMessage(arcpy.ProductInfo()) I log the messages out: Spatial Analyst Licenses status: NotLicensed ArcServer When I open ArcMap, it tells me I have spatial analyst.

... but fine (Available) when I debug the script in a python IDE. In this doc on page 116, I read that the setting of product and extensions is necessary only within stand alone scripts. So in my py script, I first do the full check for the spatial analyst license, but it fails when I call this script from a command window. If I open administrator, and see what I have installed, Spatial Analyst is there: Installed, Authorized and Permanent (non expiring). Single Use, so no license server to point at. Does anyone have any hints about how I can solve this? Thanks, Mike
