Hi Zoe, I was having the same problem, where my line was always split at the point, but then sometimes it chose other random locations. I found this solution using the Integrate tool: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/84659-Split-lines-at-point-intersect-Split-Lines-at-Points?p=298879&viewfull=1#post298879 You run Integrate before you run Split Line At Point. The link above goes into the why, so I won't bore you with it here. But I can tell you that it appears to have fixed my issues. Good luck! Bryan

I don't believe it's possible to embed ArcReader. That's why we went with a Command Button to launch ArcReader from Access. Ultimately we want to embed a dynamic map using the web browser control feature found in Access 2010, but we don't have the resources to do anything about it right now. Is that what you're looking to do? Bryan

For us, this issue seems to only occur when we have many layers in the map (we have 43 in the project with the issue). It appears that the more layers turned on, the worse it gets. We have also noticed that this only occurs in the data view. The measurement tool seems to work fine in the layout view. The solution, if this is what's happening to other people, could be to create a Reader project that excludes the data view, unless there's a specific reason for including it. If that's the case, then you may have to modify your end-user workflow plan to ensure measuring occurs within the layout view. I suspect that in our case, the end-users are going to have to modify their workflows as most are not very confident in their GIS abilities; they know what they know, and to add another tool or two to achieve the same result by eliminating a view, would turn their world into chaos. Hope this is helpful to someone. Bryan

We currently have GeoServer set up, but are looking at implementing Geoportal as a way to serve up our data to our municipal partners. I currently have Geoportal set up on a VM server running Server 2008 R2. I have implemented the setup using the installation guide for version 1.2 found on sourceforge.net (http://sourceforge.net/projects/geoportal/files/Documents/Geoportal/1.2/GeoportalServer_InstallationGuide.pdf/download). Everything appears to be working fine; I was able to manually create a metadata document and was able to register an ArcGIS Server by connecting to services.arcgisonline.com. Our issue is that we cannot connect to our own internal ArcGIS Server. When I try to register our Server as a resource, I get a 'HTTP status code {401 - Unauthorized} received from server' message. When I check the gtp.xxx.log file, I see the following:
11-Apr-2012 10:22:00 AM com.esri.gpt.framework.sql.DatabaseReference openConnection FINE: Connection opened for gpt, jndiName: jdbc/gpt, productName: PostgreSQL, driver: PostgreSQL Native Driver PostgreSQL 9.1 JDBC4 (build 901) 11-Apr-2012 10:22:01 AM org.apache.commons.httpclient.auth.AuthChallengeProcessor selectAuthScheme INFO: ntlm authentication scheme selected 11-Apr-2012 10:22:01 AM org.apache.commons.httpclient.HttpMethodDirector processWWWAuthChallenge INFO: No credentials available for NTLM <any realm>@gisserver2k8:80 11-Apr-2012 10:22:01 AM com.esri.gpt.framework.jsf.BaseActionListener handleException SEVERE: Exception raised. com.esri.arcgisws.runtime.exception.ArcGISWebServiceException: HTTP status code {401 - Unauthorized} received from server

at com.esri.arcgisws.runtime.WebServiceProxyImpl.dispatchRequest(Unknown Source) at com.esri.arcgisws.runtime.WebServiceProxyImpl.dispatchRequest(Unknown Source) at com.esri.arcgisws.ServiceCatalogBindingStub.getServiceDescriptions(ServiceCatalogBindingStub.java:22) at com.esri.gpt.catalog.arcgis.metadata.AGSProcessor.createResourceFolders(Unknown Source) at com.esri.gpt.catalog.arcgis.metadata.AGSProcessor.getNativeResource(Unknown Source) at com.esri.gpt.control.webharvest.client.arcgis.ArcGISQueryBuilder.getNativeResource(Unknown Source) at com.esri.gpt.catalog.harvest.repository.HrCompleteUpdateRequest.createNativeResource(Unknown Source) at com.esri.gpt.catalog.harvest.repository.HrCompleteUpdateRequest.execute(Unknown Source) at com.esri.gpt.control.harvest.HarvestController.handleUpdateRepository(Unknown Source) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method).DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(Unknown Source) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Unknown Source) at org.apache.el.parser.AstValue.invoke(AstValue.java:262) at org.apache.el.MethodExpressionImpl.invoke(MethodExpressionImpl.java:278) at org.apache.jasper.el.JspMethodExpression.invoke(JspMethodExpression.java:70) at javax.faces.event.MethodExpressionActionListener.processAction(MethodExpressionActionListener.java:144) at javax.faces.event.ActionEvent.processListener(ActionEvent.java:84) at javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase.broadcast(UIComponentBase.java:773) at javax.faces.component.UICommand.broadcast(UICommand.java:296) at javax.faces.component.UIViewRoot.broadcastEvents(UIViewRoot.java:781) at javax.faces.component.UIViewRoot.processApplication(UIViewRoot.java:1246) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.InvokeApplicationPhase.execute(InvokeApplicationPhase.java:77) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.Phase.doPhase(Phase.java:97) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.LifecycleImpl.execute(LifecycleImpl.java:114) at javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet.service(FacesServlet.java:308) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:305) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:210) at com.esri.gpt.control.filter.EncodingFilter.doFilter(Unknown Source) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:243) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:210) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(StandardWrapperValve.java:224) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invoke(StandardContextValve.java:169) at org.apache.catalina.authenticator.AuthenticatorBase.invoke(AuthenticatorBase.java:472) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHostValve.invoke(StandardHostValve.java:168) at org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:98) at org.apache.catalina.valves.AccessLogValve.invoke(AccessLogValve.java:927) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngineValve.invoke(StandardEngineValve.java:118) at org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:407) at org.apache.coyote.http11.AbstractHttp11Processor.process(AbstractHttp11Processor.java:987) at org.apache.coyote.AbstractProtocol$AbstractConnectionHandler.process(AbstractProtocol.java:579) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.JIoEndpoint$SocketProcessor.run(JIoEndpoint.java:307) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.runTask(Unknown Source) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

Caused by: com.esri.arcgisws.runtime.exception.ArcGISWebServiceException: HTTP status code {401 - Unauthorized} received from server

at com.esri.arcgisws.runtime.transport.http.HttpClientConnectionChannelImpl.a(Unknown Source) at com.esri.arcgisws.runtime.transport.http.HttpClientConnectionChannelImpl.sendRequest(Unknown Source) ... 45 more
Originally I thought that the gptadmin account needed to be added to the agsadmin role for AGServer, but now I'm suspecting that Apache needs to be authorized to connect to the server hosting AGServer. I'm wondering if Geoportal should be installed on the same server as AGServer. Has anyone successfully connected to their own ArcGIS Server? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!:) Thanks, Bryan

I believe this issue was ultimately caused by the font that the symbols were created with. When I recreated the symbol using using arial black as the font, they exported in the correct location. It really was bizzare how this only appeared in PDFs though. The only thing that I could think of was that there must be a version conflict with the font, which came from one of our provincial ministry partners, and our version of ArcGIS.

I haven't come across this in the forums. I'm having an issue with my legend where certain symbols are being shifted up after/during exportation to PDF. All the symbols are from SDE layer files, the difference with these particular symbols is that they are shown as unique values within the same layer file (see inserted image). I tried turning DDP off and creating a PDF, using this layer file and had no issues. I also tried adding the SDE feature class with DDP on, with no issues, however as soon as I import the symbology from the layer file, I get the upward shift again. I then picked a couple of random symbols to make sure that it wasn't the symbology causing problems, that again produced the same results. Finally, I tried using a querry definition to only show hospitals, and the symbol still shifted upward. So it appears to me that this issue seems to be specific to feature classes and layers (and probably shapefiles) where originally there were more than one symbol shown, within DDP. I'm wondering if this is perhaps specific to the type of symbol being shown? My symbols are character markers. I haven't tried this yet, but my work around appears to be separating health care facilities and hospitals into two new feature classes (the way the other symbols are being shown), which is counter productive to the whole process and our SDE setup. Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas for other work arounds? Cheers, Bryan
