Found a possible solution here http://gisgeek.blogspot.com/2012/01/set-32bit-executable-largeaddressaware.html Turns out the python that is included with the 10.0 release was not compiled to be Large Address Aware. So even though it is running as a 32bit process it can only access a maximum of 2gb of ram. Tried the fix above locally and it doesn't seem to make a difference for me, I will try it on a machine with more memory and see how that goes. -Brian

Thanks for the quick reply. The 5GB I mentioned above was total system memory usage. I checked a little closer at the actual memory usage of the "python.exe *32" process right before it crashed and it maxed out between 1.6GB-1.7GB Ran it again in ArcMAP and completing successfully it used a maximum of 1.78GB, when run in arcmap though it uses the "ArcMAP.exe *32" process. So is there any way to run the python script in the ArcMap process from the CMD line? -Brian

I have been working on a arcmap gp model for doing a few CF solves and intersection queries. The model runs great in arcmap, when I export it to python and run it from the CMD prompt I get an out of memory exception. (See Below) "arcpy.Solve_na(Closest_Facility_2__2_, "SKIP", "TERMINATE") File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\na.py", line 1378, in Solve raise e arcgisscripting.ExecuteError: ERROR 030024: Solve returned a failure. Out of memory. Failed to execute (Solve)." Watching it run from task manager it will chew up about 1GB of ram and die, watching the same thing run in arcmap it will chew up about 1GB of ram and succeed. I have googled the error code and briefly searched the forums without much luck. I have seen some people mentioning an option for running in process but I'm not really sure what that means. Any help would be appreciated. On a side note, the system doesn't actually run out of memory. The development machine has 8GB total and always fails before 5GB total is reached. Thanks Brian

Hello, We just upgraded to SP3 for AGS and we are now getting this error in our application "Old Format or invalid type library. Exception(from HRESULT: 0x80028019 (TYPE_E_UNSUPFORMAT))" when we try to fetch layer data from ArcSDE through an ArcObjects connection from ArcGIS server. Any ideas what changed from SP2->SP3 that would cause this? details: Windows server 2008 r2 x64 sqlserver 2008 r2 standard with ArcSDE10 it is an asp.net 4.0 C# application Thanks

We recently upgraded one of our desktop applications from 9.3 to 10, we are having some trouble when trying to create a new GxFilterShapefiles(); We are getting {"Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {90E9D96D-E647-11D3-A682-0008C7D3AE8D} failed due to the following error: 80040111." i have read through http://help.arcgis.com/en/sdk/10.0/arcobjects_net/conceptualhelp/index.html#/How_to_migrate_ArcGIS_9_3_Desktop_and_Engine_stand_alone_applications_to_ArcGIS_10/0001000002ns000000/ which has very good information on doing the upgrade, we added the needed references and the ESRI.ArcGIS.RuntimeManager.Bind(ESRI.ArcGIS.ProductCode.Engine); also when trying to set display name field on an ifeature layer we get a similar COM exception. when searching it seems that the 80040111 error code can be caused by a number of things and so far i have not had any luck troubleshooting it myself. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brian

I noticed that if we put a Javascript Navigation Toolbar dojo object inside a div then this messes up the mouse interaction with the Map. For example if you if use the zoom in functionality the drag box is drawn away from where the mouse is clicked on the map. Is there a way to fix this. For Example in the snippet below the div corresponding to the Nav toolbar is inside another div with id ???dlgMap???. In this case the drag box does not show up in the correct location when the user uses the zoom in tool on the Map. <div id="dlgMap" title="Map Window"> <div id="navToolbar" dojotype="dijit.Toolbar"> <div dojotype="dijit.form.Button" id="zoomin" iconclass="zoominIcon" onclick="Globals.NavToolbar.activate(esri.toolbars.Navigation.ZOOM_IN);"> Zoom In</div> </div> <div id="MapOne"> </div> <asp:Button ID="btnClose" UseSubmitBehavior="false" runat="server" Text="Close" /> </div> Is there a better way to do this that will not cause problems? Thanks Brian

Hello, I am working with a Layer stored in SQL Server via SDE and looking for some advice on how to handle the edit sessions. Currently i have users who are going to be writing between 10-500 points to the layer at a time. At first I had the code setup to use the edit session like below pWorkspaceEdit.StartEditing(false); pWorkspaceEdit.StartEditOperation(); //code for adding the point to the layer pWorkspaceEdit.StopEditOperation(); pWorkspaceEdit.StopEditing(true); This was causing an error "version has been redefined to reference a new database state"(i think that was the text from the error), this would happen when more than one user would attempt to edit the layer at the same time. So i removed the start/stop EditOperation lines and that solved the version redifined error, but now every once in a while i will get another error "Underlying DBMS error [dbo.DEFAULT]" when writing to the layer. It doesnt seem to be a data error because I can use the same dataset and sometimes i will get the error and sometimes I wont. Also on a side note if anyone knows of a better way to write bulk points to a layer I am open to suggestions. Thanks Brian

I have this piece of code for standardizing addresses that I pasted below. When using a locator created in 9.3 it works fine, when using a locator created in 10 is crashes on the last line. Have tried both a regular and a composite locator. Both fail in the same way. ESRI.ArcGIS.RuntimeManager.Bind(ESRI.ArcGIS.ProductCode.Server); pServerConnection = new GISServerConnectionClass(); pServerConnection.Connect(HostName); pServerObjectManager = pServerConnection.ServerObjectManager; pSvrCtx = pServerObjectManager.CreateServerContext(SvcName, "GeocodeServer"); pPropMods = (IPropertySet)pSvrCtx.CreateObject("esriSystem.PropertySet"); pAddrPropSet = (IPropertySet)pSvrCtx.CreateObject("esriSystem.PropertySet"); pAddrPropSet.SetProperty("Street", FullAddress); //Street appears to be a valid locator property pGeocodeServer = pSvrCtx.ServerObject as IGeocodeServer; pResult = pGeocodeServer.StandardizeAddress(pAddrPropSet, pPropMods); It crashes on the last line with "Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040212" as the error. Have not been able to find anything online about this error and everything works fine with 9.3 locators. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks Brian

I have pasted the code below that I am testing with, it is a straight copy from the Navigation sample on the ESRI site. All I did was swap out the extents for the extent we want to use and change from the imagery service to the street_map service. The tiles load fine in the esri sample site (http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/demos/toolbar/toolbar_navigation.html) but on mine they do that same this with the tiles where some dont load at certain extents. Previously we had used the web ADF to work with the maps and the tiles we are trying to view now worked fine. Recently switched over to javascript and when loading some of them esri map services like the "WORLD_STREET_MAP" OR "WORLD_IMAGERY" it seems to randomly choose which tiles to load at a certain extent. sometimes when the map loads you have to zoom out very far before the tiles start to load and other times they will load fine. Have been trying to get this resolved but the problem doesnt happen all the time, we used the samples on the esri site for reference and those always seem to load fine. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated Thanks
