In the Training Samples Manager in Pro (Imagery...Classification Tools) there's an option to save training samples that are created within that dialog to a feature class. However when the Training Samples Manager is accessed through the Classification Wizard, the option to save training samples is not present. This option should be present regardless of whether you're accessing the Training Samples Manager separately or through the Classification Wizard.

I just came across this thread after encountering this problem and this sounded like a good solution. So I tried using Microsoft Print to PDF and that did the trick for me. An export to PDF from Pro that was around 26 MB was 2 MB using Print to PDF. Another workaround I've used when having a buggy issue happen with exporting to PDF from ArcMap is to export to TIFF then convert to PDF using a free on-line tool (like tiff2pdf.com). This may require an intermediate step of first reducing the TIFF file size by saving with LZW compression from an image editor.

OK, I'm not sure why the initial error but I got it to work with append. So the code looks like this: import arcpy in_fc = r'F:\scratch\transects_processing.gdb\transects_test' out_fc = r'F:\scratch\transects_processing.gdb\transects_split' fields = ['SplitLength', 'SHAPE@'] with arcpy.da.SearchCursor(in_fc, fields) as cursor: for row in cursor: len = row[0] arcpy.Append_management(row[1].segmentAlongLine(0, len, False), out_fc) There are still a few things I need to figure out but I'm much further along than when I started so thanks again!

Good point though that variable name seems to be working. I read up on CopyFeatures and found that it will indeed crash if the feature class already exists (hence it working on the first iteration and crashing on the second). Now I'm trying Append and getting an error about the schema not matching.

Thanks Darren. That makes sense. I realized I was having a more fundamental problem with PyScripter because it was crashing on the variable assignment. Not sure what's going on there but when I ran the same thing in a different IDE that part worked. And it's writing out the first line correctly. But now the problem is it's crashing after the first iteration because it says the output feature class already exists. I'm getting closer anyway!

I have a line feature class and I want to split (or extract) each line at a specific length. This length value is contained in an attribute. I've found a couple of code examples that do similar things but I'm a Python novice and I'm having a hard time putting it all together. On the ArcPy Cafe site I found this example that splits a line into 10 equal parts using the segmentAlongLine method: in_fc = r'c:\projects\waterway.gdb\stream' out_fc = r'c:\projects\waterway.gdb\stream10' out_count = 10 # how many features desired line = arcpy.da.SearchCursor(in_fc, ("SHAPE@",)).next()[0] arcpy.CopyFeatures_management([line.segmentAlongLine(i/float(out_count), ((i+1)/float(out_count)), True) for i in range(0, out_count)], out_fc) This is similar to what I want to do but rather than split a single line into multiple parts I want to iterate through each line in the feature class and extract a segment of the line length from 0 to the number that's contained in an attribute. I also found this example code in the ArcGIS help, which iterates through features in a feature class and prints attributes and geometry values: fc = 'c:/data/base.gdb/well' fields = ['WELL_ID', 'WELL_TYPE', 'SHAPE@XY'] # For each row print the WELL_ID and WELL_TYPE fields, and the feature's x,y coordinates with arcpy.da.SearchCursor(fc, fields) as cursor: for row in cursor: print('{0}, {1}, {2}'.format(row[0], row[1], row[2])) I can get code similar to the above to work with my data but I'm having a hard time combining this with the first example to accomplish what I need. I think what I'm having a hard time with is just accessing that length attribute within the cursor. I've tried the following (and several variations) but it crashes: import arcpy in_fc = r'F:\scratch\transects_processing.gdb\transects_test' out_fc = r'F:\scratch\transects_processing.gdb\transects_split' fields = ['SplitLength', 'SHAPE@'] with arcpy.da.SearchCursor(in_fc, fields) as cursor: for row in cursor: len = row[0] arcpy.CopyFeatures_management(cursor.segmentAlongLine(0, len, False), out_fc) If anyone can help with this I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for the excellent advice! GetCount is working like I need it to and I may well end up using the If-Then-Else logic before I'm done because I'll ultimately need to add some more complexity to this model. At first it wasn't totally clear to me how to use GetCount but I found that I just needed to connect the output from that tool to the buffer tool as a precondition and that's it. If GetCount returns 0 then the precondition is false and the subsequent tool doens't execute.

I'm working on a model that will create different buffers for different selections. So I'm using Make Feature Layer and adding an expression to select a subset of features and then using the buffer tool on that subset. But there may be times when a selection doesn't return any features, in which case I wouldn't want to run the buffer. Is there a way in ModelBuilder to test whether or not any features are selected and only run the subsequent step if there are? Alternatively I could export to a Python script and handle this testing there but I'm not quite sure how to accomplish this in Python either.

Disappointing. We're using ArcPad but I have several users who want to be able to collect data on their smartphones. Looks like they'll continue using Avenza PDF Maps, Gaia GPS or other such apps for now.

I've read in a couple of places that offline use was something that would be supported with version 10.2 but now that seems to not be the case. Not having the ability to use this app offline is a deal breaker for us because we have no cell reception in most places we're collecting data. Can anyone provide an update on when this capability might be coming?

Thanks Russ and Ken. I'm not even sure what I did but I have it working now. Initially I hadn't made the map editable and at first when I corrected that it wasn't showing up in Collector but now it is. Maybe it just took a little while to update.

I'm also interested in hearing about any potential solutions because I seem to be having the same problem. Though in my case I'm just trying to get started with Collector. I published a feature service, created a web map in AGOL, made it editable and shared it with my organization but yet when I open Collector I get a message that says "You don't have any maps for use with Collector." Thanks for any insight. Also, Ken would you mind posting the link to the Community Art walk through you mentioned? I just tried searching and couldn't find it but maybe it would be helpful for me since I'm just getting started.

Unfortunately I didn't find a solution and I called Esri tech support and they couldn't give me a solution either. So my workaround was to convert the raster data to vector. Kind of a pain but in my case there were only about 3 or 4 raster layers that needed to be converted so it didn't end up taking too long.
