Thanks for the reply Kelly. The requirement is to use the ArcGIS Server REST API and JavaScript - since the interface won't have a map with a feature layer. Have you had success executing the addFeatures operation using the REST API, JavaScript with either jQuery or Dojo AJAX patterns? Thank you

Hello all, thanks for your time. Context: I have an ArcGIS Server 10.1 Enterprise Advanced instance on Windows 2008 Server R2. I have data in an Enterprise SDE Geodatabase on SQL Server. I have successfully published a Feature Service with editing capabilities. I confirm that I can edit the feature service because when I go to http://myserver/arcgis/rest/services/myservice/FeatureServer/0/addFeatures, I can successfully add a feature by typing in an array of json objects into the 'features' text box of the Esri REST API web app. What I'm Having Trouble Doing: I now want to execute the addFeatures operation against my FeatureService using the REST API - but do it programmatically with JavaScript and jQuery. Here is my code ...
var theData = [
{
"geometry": {
"x": -13316097.345,
"y": 5861939.546999998
},
"attributes": {
"Column1": "Value1",
"Column2": "Value2"
}
}
];
$.ajax({
url: "http://myhostname/arcgis/rest/services/myservice/FeatureServer/0/addFeatures",
dataType: 'json',
type: 'POST',
data: theData,
success: function (data, textStatus, jqXHR) {
//
console.log('success');
console.log(data);
console.log(textStatus);
console.log(jqXHR)
},
error: function (jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) {
//
console.log('error'); //<-- the response lands here ...
console.log(jqXHR); //<-- the console logs the object
console.log(textStatus); //<-- the console logs 'parsererror'
console.log(errorThrown); //< -- the console logs 'SyntaxError {}'
},
complete: function (jqXHR, textStatus) {
//
console.log('complete');
console.log(jqXHR);
console.log(textStatus);
}
});
As you can see, the response I get from the GIS server is 'parse error'. I believe this to potentially mean that the data that I am sending with my POST request is malformed? Questions: 1.What is the proper format/structure for the data in my POST request to my editable feature service? Is my data structure wrong? This is the same structure used when manually entering into the Esri REST API out-of-the-box web app. 2. Anyone else see anything incorrect about this $.ajax() call? Thank you!!!

Hello all, I have tried to install the ArcGIS for IOS SDK (version 2.2 released yesterday) and am receiving the following error: Title: There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again. Message Body: The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Has anyone run into a similar problem in their iOS development environment and have any recommendations? Troubleshooting I have performed: 1. As suggested above, I have tried re-installing multiple times. Each time, cleaning up before re-installing by running ${HOME}/Library/Application Suport/AGSiOSSDK/uninstallAGSiOSSDK 2. I have tried downloading version 2.2 multiple times in case I had a 'corrupt download'. This is not the problem either as I continue to receive the same error. 3. After each attempt, I would confirm that there was no successful install (besides the error message) by seeing that there was no folder created called ${HOME}/Library/SDKs/ArcGIS My iOS dev environment (outside of using the the ArcGIS for iOS SDK) has been running fine with no problems for the last year or so - as I can use all of my iOS dev tools fine, deploy to my test devices fine, etc. Any other troubleshooting tips you can share would be appreciated! Thanks!!! Clint

Oops ... I figured it out. Just in case anyone runs into the same thing ... here is a repost that doesn't crash my iPad. The change is using start and stop messages instead of setting properties. - (IBAction)showUsersLocation:(id)sender { if(self.mapView.gps.enabled == TRUE) { [self.mapView.gps stop]; } else { [self.mapView.gps start]; self.mapView.gps.autoPan = TRUE; } }

Hello all, I'm using version 1 of the ArcGIS for iOS SDK. In my iPad app, whenever I enable GPS (through ESRI's SDK) my mobile app crashes. On the iPhone version, enabling GPS (through the ESRI SDK) does not. Anyone have any tips on this using ESRI's SDK (I understand I can call Core Location directly but would like to go through ESRI's SDK for now) to properly enable GPS on the iPad? Here is a code snippet which is the same for my iPad and iPhone version. This gets invoked when a user clicks on a 'Round Rect Button' on my view. - (IBAction)showUsersLocation:(id)sender { if(self.mapView.gps.enabled == TRUE) { self.mapView.gps.stop; } else { self.mapView.gps.start; self.mapView.gps.autoPan = TRUE; } } Thanks!

Hello, All of my iOS projects that use the ArcGIS for iOS API as the map control, seem to show the iPhone's network activity status indicator (e.g. the 'Spinning icon right of the signal bars) as spinning indefinitely. Even if I pan to an area on the map, stop panning, and let the app sit there for 10 minutes or more, the network activity indicator never stops spinning. Is there a way to stop this? My latest test project is a single UIViewController where I've added one map service layer. So I know the app really isn't doing anything besides rendering the map service. Thanks for any insight.

Hello, Does ArcGIS Desktop 10 with Geostatistical Analyst perform fuzzy c-means cluster analysis? I am currently working with a procedure that requires I export tables to the R environment to do this. Would be nice if I can stay inside ArcGIS. Thank you, Clint

Hey all, I'm working with the AGS JS API legend dijit (its awesome!). Has anyone successfully styled this so as to change the size of the symbol swatches (e.g. squares representing polygon features), font-family, and font-size? I'm simply trying to 'harmonize' the style of the legend dijit presentation with my site. Thanks!

Hello all, I'm simply trying to run the RegionGroup Spatial Analyst extension tool in ArcToolbox. For some reason, when running this against a large raster (northern California), the tools runs 'successfully' - meaning it completes without error - except that the output has a data anomaly - whereby there are striped bands across the output. The cells in these striped bands also have large integer values (e.g. 1991 while all other values are 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. for each unique group). This tool problem has been repeated by different people on my team. I'm seeing this same RegionGroup tool problem in ArcGIS Desktop 10 AND ArcGIS Desktop 10 Service Pack 1. Can anyone confirm this same problem - or recommend a work around? Thank you

Hello, Context: I currently am working with the Identify task. After calling identifyTask--> didExecuteWithIdentifyResults I get an array of identify results that currently has fields that I don't want (object_id, shape) and field names that I want to change (e.g. change 'shape_area' to read 'area'). Questions: What is the best practice for filtering fields from the result of an identify task? I want to remove fields from showing up in my results view controller. I don't see that there is an 'out fields' concept where I can declare what fields I want returned back from the identify operation. Is this available? What is the best practice for renaming fields from the results of an identify task? Is there some way I can tell the identify task to return fields using friendlier looking field aliases instead of the literal field name in the map service's underlying geodatabase? Thanks!

Hello all, Background Most of my experience is with .NET and the JavaScript API, so I still consider myself 'getting started' with the AGS Flex API and and ArcGIS Flex Viewer in a production enterprise environment. Questions I am curious in hearing from the AGS Flex developer community what you are all using for your web application's 'security framework' and how you are creating logins for authenticating to your Flex API web apps or ArcGIS Viewer flex apps? Application-level security features may include: 1. login control to authenticate into ArcGIS Flex Viewer or custom web map using Flex API 2. authorize authenticated users to view specific widgets they are authorized to use in the ArcGIS Flex Viewer or custom web map using the Flex API. Non-authorized users won't see widgets they are not authorized to use. In the past, I've mixed the .NET Membership Framework with the Javascript API. While I am aware of patterns regarding mixing Flex with a .NET backend for security or custom non-GIS web services, I'm interested in any non-.NET options that Flex developers have been successful/happy with. Just interested in learning something new too 🙂 Thanks!!!

Hello all, When I use Dojo's Accordion and TabContainer dijits inside a Dijit Dialog, I get an error when using the ESRI ArcGIS Server JavaScript API version 1.6 and 2.0 beta. When I run the same code with ESRI ArcGIS Server JavaScript API version 1.5 - I do not get these errors and everything works fine. I use Dijits to build my custom UI for web apps. ESRI please test that using Dojo dijits inside Dojo's floating dialogs work with the final release of 2.0. Thanks!
