What should happen when a portion of a line falls off the surface? How should Ms be estimated for the introduced vertices at the edge of the surface where a portion of the line has been clipped away?

There wasn't an intent to preserve M's to start with. There's the question of how to handle M's for vertices that get introduced through densification/interpolation. It's considered an enhancement to the tool rather than a bug to fix and in the decades of the tool's existence only a handful of users have asked for this. Is there not a way to add M's after interpolation rather than before? Consider the length of a 3D line is greater than a 2D line. Would this be a reason to change the M's?

We'd like to gather real world use cases for this. What is the application? What real world features are being modeled (e.g., building shells) and what is the application domain (e.g., city planning)? What workflow is impossible to achieve unless this functionality is available? Also, what is used to produce the co-planar geometry in the first place?

For more complex polygons, that are are sloped at a non-horizontal angle, but still planar, I recommend building a TIN from each polygon and using that with the Surface Difference GP tool. That tool supports calculating the volumetric difference between two TIN based (including TIN, LAS, and Terrain datasets) surfaces. So, the trick is to get your polygonal areas of interest represented as TINs.

The suggested update to the tool makes sense. In the mean time, to get around this limitation, you can pre-filter the LAS points using the 'Extract LAS' GP tool with a LAS Dataset Layer as input. The filter settings for the layer will be applied.

I don't think we every had a supported tool in ArcMap to do that conversion. A sample utility perhaps. We don't get many requests for this so it's hard to justify prioritizing a new tool for it in 2.9. Would a command line exe callable from a script based GP too suffice?

There isn't a low level API exposed for TIN in Pro. However, GP tools for creating, modifying, and analyzing TINs do exist and can be called from scripts/code.

The AddFilesToLasDataset tool should turn on the added constraints by default. We're going to treat that as a bug to address.

There is no equivalent for ITinEdit in Pro at this time. There are several geoprocessing tools for creating and editing TINs though. If these don't suffice can you describe why?

It must have been old/outdated doc saying ArcGIS does not support 1.4 specific point record formats. It has for several years. Please point me to the old doc reference and I'll see what I can do about updating it. Of course, if it's doc for old software then the limitation will apply. You'd need to upgrade software. I believe we added full support (with exception to waveform) in 10.3.
