I can access ArcMap 9.3 (build 1770) and ArcGIS Explorer (build 500). Now what we need is a drive time from one address to another address. Because this information will be used only as a small part of non-graphic application, so we will not use GIS to build the user interface. What we need is just to build a static table which contains the drive time information. The question is how do I pull out the Drive Time Attributes Data in GIS?

I am brand new newbie and our company want to build this tool. Currently we are using google maps to get drive time. After some readings, I have following questions: 1. As I know the attributes should be already here in arcGIS. Please correct me if I am wrong. If we use arcGIS, the user will be install the arcView, am I right? Does a separate license for this newly installed arcView needed? Roughly how much in Canada? 2. If I use free arcGIS online, are data realible enough? And weakness would provent me to use this? Thanks a lot.

This may not be very accurate. I randomly tried about 10 times to look at gallery and maps, all of them require Silverlight plug-in. As far as I understand it all of the www.arcgis.com content uses the Java Script API for the Map Viewer. Now last week I did a search for something, I cant remember exactly what, and one of the links was to a silverlight application and it wanted to install the plug-in. I am not allowed to install that plug-in at my client site so I was unable to view the app/data. It all comes down to exactly what you are clicking on to view. As far as I know if you try and use www.arcgis.com to view/overlay data in the Map Viewer it will use the Java Script API and call the Map Service for data. All of that does not require the Silverlight plug-in or any plug-in. If you try and view external content (I think an external application hosted by a 3rd party) then its up to the publisher and how they created the application.

I will use ArcGIS.com to generate basemap for my web application. I would prefer to use JavaScript. However, when I try to look at others maps, I found every map requests me to install Silverlight plug-in. I thus got the sense whole ArcGIS.com was built on Silverlight. According to what you said, it is not the case. I am still able to create my base map in JS.

I intend to create a website which consists of a base map and user management functions. Each user after sign in should be able to add/edit/remove/save some very limited dots and lines and without change the base map. I think the best approach is to let each user having their own layer. Would ArcGIS.com support this idea?

I would like to add my own layer, places I have visited. There are two many of them for me to manually add. So I would like to upload a simple table contains only co-ordinates and the name of the place. Am I able to do this in ArcGIS.com? Sorry, I am new to GIS.

I do not have right to install any plug-in by myself. If that is essential, then I would have to go for formal approval. However, I would prefer not to bother administrator. Please let me know if it is essential. Thanks.
