I have a custom GP tool that I've written in C# for 10.1. I've compiled it, registered it, used it to build a model, and it runs it desktop. Now I want to publish it as a GP service. I go through that process and it publishes. But it won't run as a published tool. I get the 816 error stating that it's not valid. I've validated it in model builder, I've analyzed it before publishing and those are all fine. What else do I need to do???? This model worked in 10.0 but not in 10.1.

Do you know if this supposedly got fixed in 10.1. I'm having a problem with it on files that did work in 10.0.

This example http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcobjects-net/componenthelp/index.html#//004900000066000000 no longer works for 10.1. Is there a 10.1 example? Thanks, Deona

Thanks for your response. I am not using the Instant Client from ESRI. I am using the regular Oracle Client. I've rebooted the machine and I still have the problem. Catalog and Desktop have no problem with the database connection. I use the same connection string in those for the connection in Server. I get an error that says "NameISpecified: The data item is inaccessible." That makes me think there is a permissions issue. I've set the folder permissions where the database is.....is there more to this? It's just weird that Desktop and Catalog are fine but not Server. Thanks again.

I have installed 10.1 ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Server on a 64 bit Windows Server 2008R2 virtual macine. I have an oracle database that I used with 10.0 and have successfully established a connection to it through ArcCatalog. When trying to register this database with ArcServer I get the error "The data item is inaccessible." So, looking through the documentation I realize that I haven't loaded the oracle client software. So I load the 64 bit client software. Knowing that I also am running Desktop I install the 32 bit client as well. I setup my environment variable Path to point to client_1(64bit) before (client_2) - as stated in the documentation. I then go back to Catalog to look at my database and the connection no longer works. If I take out the link to the 32 bit client in the Path environment variable, Catalog can connect to the database. I'm confused. I thought the 32 bit client was required if connecting to a database from Desktop. I would have thought that I wouldn't be able to connect to the database via Catalog without the 32 bit oracle client. I still cannot register the database in ArcServer. What am I missing/doing wrong?

I still have this problem. I've got to upgrade to 10.1 and I'm just hoping it goes away. If not, I've got a big problem. I'm hoping someone will eventually clue us in to what is going on.

What would cause the FlareMouseEvents to no longer trigger? I have code that has been working, the FeatureLayer has a WeightedCluster and the cluster does take place. But when I go to mouse over so that the cluster will flare, it no longer works - it used to. Now, the difference is possibly a new operating system. It seems to have started behaving this way when I was on Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2. Is there some setting that would prevent this from workring? Thanks for any clues! Deona

I have discovered something interesting about this problem. The GP tools under ArcServer work on a Win Server2008R2 machine but not a Win Server2008R2 sp1 machine. What does service pack 1 do that causes this problem? Anybody?

Yes, I have the latest service packs. I've tried it on 2 Windows Server 2008R2 machines and I can't get it to work. It does work on a Server 2003 machine.

I publish my tools to the root directory but the path is still kind of long. So I shortened it and I still have the problem. I can run the same code on a different machine and it works.

Did you ever resolve this? I'm having the same issue. The job runs, the data is there, but I get that error when trying to retrieve the results.

I'm having the same problem. The output is generated under the arcgisjobs with the appropriate job id. It's all there but I get this error when trying to retrieve the data. This exact same code works on an XP/Server 2003 machine but it doesn't work on a Server 2008 R2 machine.
