Hey no worries. It's not a mistake, but a reminder - to check with the tool reference first. 🙂 Thanks for the description of your use case. I see why the lines were collected for area boundaries. Cool!

Hi Katie_Clark, I will check on the tool tip improvement possibility. Thanks for suggesting that. But I wonder why you didn't go to the tool reference first to see the note below. https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/tool-reference/data-management/feature-to-polygon.htm Regarding the "why", the tool existed long before I know it. If you think about all the potential input line/polygon combinations, some make sense to carry over attributes, others don't. When multiple features, such as different lines or polygons or both, form an enclosed area, it may not make sense to write attributes out from one of them or all of them. I guess it was probably too late to change the tool design once it's released, unfortunately; so we hoped that the Note in the tool reference would help people know not to rely on that parameter. We are aware of the problem and seek for a future opportunity to create better replacement tool(s). Just curious about your scenario, are your features lines or polygons or both? If you don't mind, could you describe a bit why need to create polygons from them? That would help us see the real world situations while thinking about new tool designs. Other people are also welcome to let us know your use cases. Thanks! 🙂

Yes, Bud I didn't address the tie breaker part. It is possible to add analysis and a tie breaker field choice. However, you would need to handle the ties when the tie breaker field contains ties. If you already have a solution, that's wonderful. Thanks for sharing the links to other related topics. I will take a look when I have time. 🙂 Cheers!

Hi Bud, Thank you for thinking of me/us. I did the following using existing tools: 1. I put your data into a gdb, added a new field MyDate (date type), and converted the information in t_date (a text field) into real date values into MyDate. 2. Run Summary Statistics to get the "max" date per species: 3. Run Join Field to transfer MAX_MyDate back to the input table via the common field t_species: 4. Run Select Layer By Attribute to get the expected selection: You can put the above into a model or a script. Hope this gives you a lead. Of course you can script without running the existing tools. I won't have time to help you get that done, sorry.

Hi wayfaringrob, Here is the good news: what you suggested has already been implemented for the upcoming release. Hope you will get it soon. 🙂

Hi JasonFuller, If you right click Shape_Area and select Statistics, you will get a chart and all the statistics in the Chart Properties pane. You can choose to show the stats for all the records or the selected records. It's different from ArcMap but provides more flexibility. Hope it meets your needs. You can add a field, say Area_Hectares, and then right click the field to select Calculate Geometry. This tool allows you to calculate many geometry properties, including Area in specific unit. It's the same as the geoprocessing tool, Calculate Geometry Attributes. Hope this helps.

This seems an interesting idea and discussion. Although I am an internal member I share the same needs. 🙂 Other than the above examples of using resources to write notes, I just want to mentione another place where I keep some quick notes with my project - the Bookmarks. Obviously bookmarks are not user-friendly enough if you need to write complicated nodes with graphics or other components, but I can write and organize some simple notes as bookmarks with descriptions and put them in bookmark folders. They are saved with my projects/maps. Again I am not suggesting this to satisfy your needs for writing rich notes but a small tip for taking advantage of the bookmarks. 🙂

Hi @ColeSutton , Thanks for asking. We have not added the point-to-point capability with the transfer attributes tool, mostly because we have not received sufficient use cases and test data to see how point features need to be matched other than within a distance and/or with matching fields. If all the corresponding points in two inputs are within a search distance without ambiguity, it's a matter of using Near to get the matching point FID and Spatial Join to transfer attributes based on the common FIDs. Would you be able to share your case/data with me?

Bud, you said: For example, use the vertices (or a subset of the vertices/dimensions) from the joined SHAPE to construct a new/different SHAPE. Could you describe why you need to do this with some screenshots of the two sets of data? Since there is a common link (ID field as you said) between the two datasets, could you use Feature Vertices To Points tool to get the vertices for your FC-B, which carries the input feature ID in ORIG_FID field and the common ID field, you can then use the points to construct what you need? On a different thought, if you like the geometry of your FC-B, would you consider using Join Field to transfer attributes from FC-A to FC-B via the common ID?

I am not making the decision, but it's likely that the sample tool will be available for as long as people are using it. Regarding future GP tool, I think it would all depends on demand/votes.

Hi Bud, I have suggested to Sean to label that parameter with "Percentage (%)" and accept values between 0 and 100 instead of decimal number. You are right that 0 as a default doesn't make sense; so we will change it to 1 percent as the default. @SeanLim will give you a updated version soon. We also would like to know if this tool solves your problem. Hope you can comment on that too. Thanks.

Hey @Bud, Sean Lim who posted the script tool, Shrink Line, above is my teammate. He had some account conflict issue to resolve; that's why there is no Esri badge next to his name. If you are still interested in this tool, please give it a try and let Sean know if it is helpful to solving your problem. Thanks. - Dan
