I'm looking to create a map where users can turn off visibility or remove specific features rather than a whole layer. Does ArcReader allow the user to use/modify Definition queries or is there another method to achieve this result?

After upgrading from 10.2 to 10.5.1 certain Arcmap functions no longer work properly. The ones that affect me most are related to labeling. Character spacing is no longer viable. The results are unevenly spaced characters and halo and drop shadow spaced differently than the Label Text. I suspect Word spacing produces similar bad results but haven't tested it. Draw Graphic features no longer interacts with labels. I used to use a draw toolbar to create an easy way to organize and unclutter labels. Most commonly with extent indicator frames. An invisible graphic rectangle could prevent labels from covering up the extent indicator frame. In 10.5.1 even though the 'Annotation and Graphics' window is available in the weight ranking settings, changing these settings doesn't have any effect. Labels will always be placed on top of graphic objects. Is there any plans for these issues to be resolved? Or is there workaround for this 2nd issue that is faster than creating a gdb, creating a feature class, creating features for every any maps I need to reproduce with this functionality.

I have this issue in version 10.5.1 but did not have it in 10.2. I realized it wasn't happening for all labels and tracked the issue to Character Spacing in the Formatted Text tab. If I set that to 0 then there was no longer an issue.

Feature Classes, but that's not the issue. I was able to recreate the issue in a blank mxd with multiple dataframes and no layers.

That's kinda my point. Running the Doctor doesn't do anything. It says it has invalid maps, but in the mxd created after treatment they are still there and it still gives a red check. Nothing has changed.

If I run an MXD with multiple DataFrames through the MXD Doctor it will show a duplicate in the index for each DataFrame except the duplicate will say 'Invalid Map' after treatment (trying both 'Transfer all non broken' and 'PageLayout and Valid Maps') these 'Invalid Maps' are still there and as far as I can tell they don't affect anything. I'm simply curious what these are or what's causing them.

As a workaround I tried copying the database and syncing the first schematic diagram then deleting all the other diagrams. Then repeating this process for every single diagram I have. I've done this for the first two diagrams I have. Turns out just deleting other diagrams is having the same effect.

I'm working with a series of diagrams created from transmission lines that I want to update every few months. I have a bunch of net junctions nowhere near the diagram links. If it's significant, these weird net junctions aren't randomly placed. They are net junctions of transmission lines that were never part of this diagram. Not sure what's happening but I'll run an update sync and hope for the best. Before Sync After Sync Everything is back to normal, problem solved...except when I update the rest of my diagrams, which of course shouldn't affect this one, the net junctions are back to those weird locations.

Along state borders I'm seeing discrepancies between the Census provided state and counties features classes, parcel data and various basemaps such as Bing Hybrid and World Street Map. Is there a definitive source for state or county boundaries I should be using? Why would parcel data disagree with census data?

Like most people I'd prefer my maps to have North facing up, so I want to create a series of map books following Transmission lines but I don't like the results I get with either Strip Map or Grid Index. I want a standard north and for the data driven pages to follow the line with the least amount of pages possible with minimal overlap. So basically the best of both. Smallworld has offered this feature for years (also with an option to auto-orientate Portrait/Landscape for individual pages based on the lines direction for that page) so it seems ESRI should have a similar feature

After some experimentation I've found Copy as Picture with 'as shown on screen' and 'Bitmap' selected to be the best option. It keeps the cell shading and doesn't cause weird cell wall thickness changes
