Kevin, You can do this through the sequence of Symbology screens in the image > Symbol Selector > Symbol Property Editor > Line Decoration Editor. Get to these by this route: 1. Layer properties > Symbology Tab 2. clicking on the Symbol which opens Symbol Selector 3. Properties Button to Symbol Property Editor 4. In Type: select any of cartographic, hash or marker Line Symbol and click the Line Properties Tab 5. In Line Decorations select the right pointing arrow and then the Properties button below it. 6. In Line Decoration Editor screen In "Number of Positions" increase this to whatever looks good and leave the Flip: blank and Rotate properties: as follow line angle 7. OK and Apply your way out of the screens and check how it looks; you can modify the arrows or change the intervals through the same process. As well you can "Hatch" the routes to show distances along them and this will run in the same direction as the arrows: Go to Layer Properties > Hatches Tab; check Hatch features in the layer; in the TOC of Layer properties ... Hatch Class > Hatch Interval to a number greater than zero; then Hatch Def( x). "Place these hatches every" e.g. 1 "hatch intervals" (the "x" in the brackets after Hatch Def (x) is the number you enter for intervals, so you can have several hatch types at differnet interval) ; put in a hatch line length; and in Labels box check "Label these hatches". Apply, OK and your routes will also have distance markers. Hardolph Thanks Hardolph. I appreciate the help.

I'm having similar problem and wish someone would answer this. If there isn't a tool for this kind of operation, I hope it is something ESRI looks into developing. Sorry I couldn't help. I just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

Hi, I have been assigned the task of creating a route network for the sidewalks in a major city. I created the route layer from a pre-existing poly-line feature class. Unfortunately, there is no attribute that tells these sidewalks to go in a particular direction as they have not been surveyed yet. I am stuck on trying to figure out how to assign the sidewalk route layer some sort of sensible direction or "flow". Ideally, I'd like them all to flow from one end of a street to the other. All of my sidewalk routes are broken down into individual segments. One street may have as few as 2 segments, where major roads may have as many as 20+. So the 2 questions I have: 1.) How do I determine what direction my arcs are going in? Is there a tool that I can click to identify my lines and have it show me which direction the line is traveling in? 2.)If there is a tool to determine Arc direction (which I know there is-just don't know where to find it), is there a quicker method to get them to run from one of the street to the other without having to go through and individually rotate each segement (there is 1,500 segements). This is something I'd like to get done today, so if you think you can help, I will be notified quicker by personal email. kdoyle2360@gmail.com Thanks in advance.

I just created a route feature class showing all of the sidewalks for a city and I need to show which direction they are going in (with arrowheads pointing direction that routes go in). I thought it would be something that could be done under the routes tab in properties box but its not. After doing some research, the only thing I saw to do was to use Network Analyst tool to show "flow" aka direction with arrows but my Arc license level doesn't allow me to use that function. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey, so I am rotating my map at a five degree angle so I can fit certain features in and the symbols rotate too. How do I prevent/remedy this? Thanks!

I created an annotation feature class for a parcel project I'm doing and everything was smooth sailing until the proram crashed. Poof. Open the program back up and all my annotations are gone-zo. I did save them though. I can still see the layer n the TOC and open the attribute table and zoom to each annotation and it brings me to the right spot but there is nothing there. Where did my annotation go? Someone help please -_-

I'm using GPS pathfinder office to process waypoints and I keep getting this: "No processing performed as base data does not have carrier data" I'm pretty sure it has something to do with me configuring the IP address of the server of the basestation I use but I don't know how to do that. Can you modify the IP address of a "system-defined" server? Is it done through the Correction Wizrd? Help!

Good Morning! I just finished editing (updating) a town's parcel map and need to know how to up-date the records now. The assessors office from the town is sending me the cama file (with the updated records)soon. Do I just link the tables? Do I add the new cama file into ArcGIS t.o.c ? Thanks!

Well then, I'll just say this. You should never be afraid to ask a question. Its better to ask and sound like an idiot than to do it incorrectly and mess everything up. Your boss is not a very good boss if he tries to fire you for asking a legitimate question in order to make sure the job is done correctly. Also, you are an intern, you should not automatically be expected to know EVERYTHING. An intern should be seen as a worker-in-training that's why you don't get the big bucks yet. That said, good luck, and remember integrity is an employer's greatest asset. Also just look on the technical support website (mentioned above), it may be there somewhere. Well...I came to a GIS forum looking for GPS advice and got lessons on integrity. Who would've thought? 😉 I agree that integrity is an employee's best asset (in employer's perspective) but I also know that impressing the boss is never a bad thing. Thank you for your help. I will contact Trimble and if all else fails, then I will resort to asking my boss. I will post the answer to my question here as soon as I find out what it is!

Thank you for responding! I am open to this suggestion, however, will my boss be notified by the distributor if I (an intern) contact them? If that is the case, then I might as well just ask the people at the office. Any suggestions as to where to look in Pathfinder Office to adjust these settings? (changing a basestation IP address) Again, thank you for your help.

Precursor: I know this is a GIS forum Hello all, I am posting because I was wondering if anyone could help me with question regarding Trimble GPS. I need to know how to change the IP address of the base station the organization I work for currently uses for data correction. I was told I have to "change the download string if in GPS Pathfinder Office", which is cool and all but....I don't know how to do that off the top of my head. I'm an intern here and am trying to leave a good impression. I know this is a GIS forum but I also know that many people who are familiar with GIS are equally GPS savvy. I'm sure I could ask someone here at the work-place but I feel like this is a task they expect me to know how to do so I figured I'd branch out to available resources before making myself look a total noob. If noone knows the answer to my question but rather a good forum to post it, please, by all means... Thanks Again!

The field names all have spaces at the end. Once I removed the spaces, the data loads and the xy events display in the correct locations. Thank you. You're help is appreciated!

Hey Kevin, I tried out the Excel table and got the same results you did. The points showed up at 0,0. I believe there is something wrong with the spreadsheet. I'm not sure if it is the table or a format issue; however, I was able to get it to work. From ArcMap I exported the Excel table to a .dbf table. The new .dbf table displayed the points in the correct location when using the Display XY Data function. Try that out and let me know if it works. Thank you! What you said worked, as did Lenny's advice (comment below this one).
