I have developed an add-in for ArcMap using the ArcObjects SDK for .NET and C#. My development machine is on 10.6.1 but I need to install the addin on machines with 10.5. I have done this in the past. My add-in consists of a toolbar containing several buttons. I can install the add-in on the 10.5 machines but when I click the buttons they immediately become grayed out. In Visual Studio on my development machines, I have targeted the add-in to the .NET framework installed on the target machines, and set all the references assemblies to Copy Local. What else can I try?

I am receiving the error in 10.6.1, copying from a Postgres enterprise GDB to a file GDB on the same machine.

I copied a Visual Studio C# add-in project to modify it and create a new add-in. But since the GUIDs (the <AddInID> tag in the Config.esriaddinx file) are the same, they cannot both be loaded into ArcMap at the same time. What is the best/safest way to create a new GUID for the new project? Can I simply use an online GUID generator and manually replace all occurrences in the project?

What I should have asked is, what are ESRI's plans re: ArcObjects and exposing is full functionality via other APIs/SDKs? I feel like the waters have been muddied in the last couple years and, although the range of tools for building add-ins has increased, the capabilities have taken a step backward.

Circa 2010, with ArcGIS Desktop 10, the new add-in platform was released. Use .NET programming to develop add-ins for ArcMap! Books were published, classes were held. I wrote some pretty cool add-ins in C# with ArcObjects to help my company's workflow, in roughly the period 2010-2014. Nowadays, I can barely find any references to the ArcObjects SDK for C# .NET. It's all Python all the time, or the Runtime SDKs, or WPF and Pro. I love Python, and I love ArcGIS Pro, but what is the future of ArcObjects .NET development for ArcMap? There seem to be many things I cannot do with Python add-ins that I can only accomplish with aging .NET add-ins that I can no longer effectively debug/modify because the documentation is receding into the wilderness and Visual Studio support is increasingly lacking. What's a .NET add-in developer to do?

Similar behavior with a different dataset, but the maximum functioning value of the spectral_detail parameter was a bit different. Perhaps more importantly, I tried my script on a machine that was still on 10.3, and it works fine. Same script on 10.4, no dice.

Well, new wrinkle. I adjusted the parameters and it works for some combinations but not others. It seems that spectral_detail is the culprit, with the tool failing for anything 18.0 or higher. The supposed maximum is 20.0. Of course, still, when I run it in ArcMap it works fine. Whether this is a problem with my particular data or a bug in the tool is a mystery to me.

The paths are fine, and the 4th parameter is optional, but just for giggles I tried specifying that parameter and experienced the same behavior. This is how it looks in the Results window, after having run successfully within ArcMap: It also works in the Python window within ArcMap: arcpy.gp.SegmentMeanShift_sa("D:/REDACTED/master.img", "D:/REDACTED/segments.img", "20", "15", "10", "1 2 3") But not in a standalone script: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Program Files (x86)\JetBrains\PyCharm 2016.2.3\helpers\pydev\_pydevd_bundle\pydevd_exec.py", line 3, in Exec exec exp in global_vars, local_vars File "<input>", line 1, in <module> File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.4\ArcPy\arcpy\geoprocessing\_base.py", line 506, in <lambda> return lambda *args: val(*gp_fixargs(args, True)) ExecuteError: ERROR 999998: Unexpected Error. Failed to execute (SegmentMeanShift). I have tried two different syntaxes in the script: segments = SegmentMeanShift(in_raster, 20.0, 15, 10, '1 2 3') and arcpy.gp.SegmentMeanShift_sa(in_raster, segments, 20.0, 15, 10, "1 2 3")

In ArcMap 10.4, I can run the SegmentMeanShift tool (Segment Mean Shift—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop ) in the Python window, or from the ArcToolbox, just fine. However, when trying to run a standalone script incorporating the tool, I receive the ever-useful "Unexpected Error." I am using the standalone tool template as provided in the link above. My Spatial Analyst licenses are valid. I am not using the optional band indexes parameter. # Import system modules
import arcpy
from arcpy.sa import *
# Set local variables
inRaster = r"Path:\blah\blah\master.img"
spectral_detail = "15"
spatial_detail = "15"
min_segment_size = "10"
# Check out the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension license
arcpy.CheckOutExtension("Spatial")
# Execute
seg_raster = SegmentMeanShift(inRaster, spectral_detail, spatial_detail, min_segment_size)
# Save the output
seg_raster.save(r"Path:\blah\blah\seg_test.img") This is the error: File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.4\ArcPy\arcpy\sa\Functions.py", line 7783, in SegmentMeanShift band_indexes) File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.4\ArcPy\arcpy\sa\Utils.py", line 53, in swapper result = wrapper(*args, **kwargs) File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.4\ArcPy\arcpy\sa\Functions.py", line 7776, in Wrapper band_indexes) File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.4\ArcPy\arcpy\geoprocessing\_base.py", line 506, in <lambda> return lambda *args: val(*gp_fixargs(args, True)) arcgisscripting.ExecuteError: ERROR 999998: Unexpected Error. Failed to execute (SegmentMeanShift). Again, it works fine within ArcMap. I should say I have gotten it to work in a standalone script before, with different spectral, spatial, and min_size parameters. If it's a problem with the inputs I don't know why it would work within ArcMap. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I posted a similar question about the ArcGIS Pro SDK last week, but now I am looking for the ArcObjects SDK for .NET I want the ability to create Desktop add-ins, like I have done before with previous versions. I have installed the Runtime SDK for .NET but this apparently does not give me the add-in templates. What happened to the ArcObjects SDK? It is not available here: SDK Downloads | ArcGIS for Developers Also, I am not associated with an "organization" so I can't download it through MyEsri. I was under the impression it would be available as part of the trial, as the Pro and Runtime SDKs are, but perhaps I was wrong.

Ugh, I think I assumed Community was just what they were calling Express nowadays. You'd think there'd be a way to download the SDK from ESRI's website though.

Yes, I tried Visual Studio. Following the directions, searching for the SDK in the online VS gallery returns exactly zero results.

Thanks, but that points me toward the MyEsri site that I mentioned, or the Visual Studio route which simply doesn't work because the SDK doesn't show up in the search results like it's supposed to.

I signed up for the 60-day free trial, which comes with ArcGIS Dekstop and ArGIS Pro. It also supposedly comes with the SDKs, but I can't seem to figure out how to download the Pro SDK. It is not under "My ESRI" since I'm not registered as part of an organization. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
