Did you save the drawings in AutoCAD 2013? ArcMap 10.1 does not yet support the 2013 dwg format. AutoCAD will typically make a .bak file when you save, if you only saved once in 2013 the .bak may still be in 2000 dwg format. If you no longer have access to the AutoCAD 2000 files then another option would be to download Autodesk TrueView 2013. TrueView is free and it allows saving drawings back to an earlier versions.

You can use a seed file during the export to create a drawing that uses AutoCAD blocks instead of points for the exported features. See this help page for details. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Exporting_attribute_values_to_AutoCAD_block_attributes/00100000001r000000/

See this help page. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/#/About_CAD_dataset_spatial_references/00100000007t000000/ To read the embedded spatial reference the CAD tech will need to install ArcGIS for AutoCAD.

I don't believe polylines can be converted to TEXT using the CADType = "TEXT". To produce a CAD file with TEXT entities you need to first label you polyline features with the desired attribute. Next, convert your feature labels to an annotation feature class stored in the file geodatabase. Once you have an annotation feature class you should be able to export it to CAD as you described.

You can export Annotation to CAD in 10.0, you have to use the ArcToolbox, Conversion Tools, To CAD, Export to CAD. The export to CAD from the ArcMap TOC is disabled when right click an annotation layer. This appears to still be the process in 10.1.

Are the points invisible or not there? At the AutoCAD command line try entering the LIST command followed by ALL. You should see a list of point features if they made it into the drawing. If you do have some points check the color, my AutoCAD background is black, the export to CAD created points that were dark brown making them impossible to see. Changing every point color to ByLayer made them show up. Also, try changing the PDMODE. Set a value of 2 for the PDMODE, that should give you a cross symbol.

There are instruction in the online help. I found these 2 links helpful. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Exporting_attribute_fields_to_CAD_as_text/00100000001q000000/ http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/Exporting_attribute_values_to_AutoCAD_block_attributes/00100000001r000000/

You just need to make a Block from the circle and attrib definition, name the Block TESTFIELD and you should be good to go. You could also create a new drawing, call it Seed.dwg or whatever, insert your TestField.dwg thus making a Block named TestField. Then use Seed.dwg for the export.

I didn't have a chance to look at your seed file, your seed drawing should contain a completed block definition ready to INSERT, i.e. Manhole. Based on you description I think you need to add a couple more fields to your feature class before exporting. Add a text field called "CADType" and populate it with the value "INSERT", add another text field called "RefName" and populate it with the name of your AutoCAD block. If "TestField" is the name of a block attrib then everything should export over to AutoCAD. Brett

I am having a similar problem. We are running SDE 9.3 and I am working on upgrading an extension that I wrote before I upgrade all the existing 9.3 users to ARC 10. Using ARC 10 on my desktop whenever I try to edit data stored on SDE I get an error stating that the Jet Database cannot find the table "GDB_DataChanges". The code fails on the ifeature.Store method. I am assuming that this is a compatibility problem with a ARC 10 Desktop trying to edit a 9.3 database. But I am here hoping to find a way around this problem. ARC10 should be backward compatible. mcsquared, did you ever find a solution or workaround to this error? I'm getting the same error when using Arc10 IFeature.Store on existing features in an 9.3 SDE layer.

Hey Maya, here's a good place to start, it took me a little while to remember where I found this. The State of Utah put this nice little VBA script together. It doesn't generate a unique id, but it does use an Editor event listener that responds to an On Create Feature event. You'd need to modify the script to generate a unique id rather than applying a time stamp. http://gis.utah.gov/code-visual-basic/vba-edit-timestamp-script-2 I talked to someone at the users conference last year who had a different solution. He created Python script and scheduled it to run every night. The script first found the Max ID and then all the features with a null ID. It then populated the null IDs incrementing from the Max ID. Good Luck!
