Your issue is not the App Builder program it is your use and understanding of how to add operational layers. If you look in my attached graphic you will see when I choose a map service and chick on a map service (represented by the folder icon, number one in the image) and then click the Include button. It will add the Whole map service as a dynamic layer (that supports the drawing of label that are setup in ArcMap). You you double click the folder then you get a list of individual layers of that map service and when you choose one of those layers and click include that LAYER of the Map Service gets add and is added to the map as a feature layer (which does not support labeling). So just click the map service folder (not choosing individual layers) and you will be able to add dynamic layers to the map. This is EXACTLY the answer I was looking for. I *hope* esri includes this in their documentation, because I spent a good 2 hours looking for the answer in the "ArcGIS Viewer for Flex" online documentation. I almost gave up on this thread because it looked like it was going in a different direction. Thank you Richard for taking the time to answer this!

Hi, I have been checking out available samples and other threads about this topic, and would appreciate any guidance the community has to offer. I am trying to add a layer to my map based upon a JSON string. I believe it can be done, based on other threads etc... here is the piece that is giving me trouble:
var nStr:String = "[{"json_featuretype":"rejected(49)","SolutionLon":"-96.7678697","Amplitude":"0","SolutionLat":"53.7175418","Date_Time":"11/10/2012 12:09:19","CloudGround":"0","json_ogc_wkt_crs":"GEOGCS[\"WGS84 Lat/Longs\",DATUM[\"WGS_1984\",SPHEROID[\"World Geodetic System of 1984, GEM 10C\",6378137,298.257223563,AUTHORITY[\"EPSG\",\"7030\"]],AUTHORITY[\"EPSG\",\"6326\"]],PRIMEM[\"Greenwich\",0],UNIT[\"degree\",0.0174532925199433],AUTHORITY[\"EPSG\",\"4326\"]]","json_geometry":{"type":"Point","coordinates":[-96.7678697,53.7175418]}}]";
var nFeatureSet:FeatureSet = FeatureSet.fromJSON(nStr);
var nLayerDetails:LayerDetails = new LayerDetails();
var nFeatureCollection:FeatureCollection = new FeatureCollection(nFeatureSet,nLayerDetails);
var nFeatureLayer:FeatureLayer = new FeatureLayer();
nFeatureLayer.featureCollection = nFeatureCollection;
nFeatureLayer.mode = "MODE_SNAPSHOT";
nFeatureLayer.id = "Lightning";
nFeatureLayer.name = "Lightning";
map.addLayer(nFeatureLayer); I'm not sure what it is that I am doing wrong. Is it my JSON? any insight would be greatly appreciated. My environment: arcgis flex api 3.1 flex 4.6

I feel so foolish, I did have the wrong versions of PostgreSQL installed... Everything is working now, (just as the post suggested)! the great news is I found some super resources as I tried to troubleshoot. If anyone is seeing similar difficulties you should check out: http://proceedings.esri.com/library/userconf/proc12/tech-workshops/tw_36.pdf Thanks, Fiona

Hi, This is exactly the problem I am having. my environment: Windows Server 2008 R2 (64bit) PostgreSQL 9.2 + PostGIS 2.0 (64bit) ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 sp1 (32bit) I am trying to connect via ArcCatalog to take a look at my loaded data. I get the same error from ArcCatalog when I try to set up a connection. I am a bit confused by the work around. I have located the 4 libraries in C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\bin I have copied these to my ArcGIS Desktop (32bit) bin directory E:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.1\bin I still get the error, am I missing a critical step? Thanks, Fiona

Hi, I'm trying to wrap my head around this, as I setup my test server for our upgrade. I have set up my server with Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1 and SQL Server 2012 standard edition. I have installed ArcGIS desktop 10.1 + sp1 I ran through the ArcGIS for Server 10.1 sp1 installer but did not create a ArcGIS Server site. (essentially I needed the authorization file for the create enterprise geodatabase tool ) I then ran the tool > 'Create Enterprise Geodatabase' I loaded some data into the geodatabase, registered as versioned. When exploring the schema all the SDE and GDB tables are present. Am I missing something? Do I need to install ArcSDE 10.1 to get the multi user/versioning/history capabilties of ArcSDE, or as this discussion indicates this is now inherent in the desktop. I still am not 100% clear why I would need to install the ArcSDE application server or command line tools. If I am managing data via desktop (ArcMap & ArcCatalog) I do not need to install anything further If I am managing data via web editing tools I do need to install the ArcSDE application server. Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Fiona
