FWIW I had struggles with this too in 3.1.1, but then I found that I really had to choose 'Validate and apply' instead of just press the 'Apply' button!

What I have noticed is that since the update I am not seeing all objects that should be there in a certain web map, after opening it. After using the zoom buttons (+/-) everything seems to be ok again. Looks like there is some problem building a fresh cache. These are layers from map services from ArcGIS Enterprise.

Hi, We are running into the same issue with 10.9.1. Do you know, has it been fixed in 11.x? Added to that, it seems a general issue in ArcGIS Online, not just in Experience Builder. Has it been fixed in web maps as well? Regards, Joris

I just encountered a similar issue. I had to change the password for my AD-account and haven't had problems until I wanted to use a map in the Field Maps App on my Android phone from work that contains password protected layers. Take note that I already used the exact same password to log in to the Field Maps app itself. I made sure by writing the password in a note and copying it. The culprit was a ñ I used in the password. After changing my password again, but now without a ñ, it worked again. Apparently this is an issue in the Field Maps App on Android only, because on my personal iPhone I did use this password before to access protected layers in the app.

The best option seems to set the role AND the usertype AND the level when you create a new user. Otherwise the new member default get in your way and the user may either not be created or created with the wrong settings. This is not really clear in de documentation.

ESRI Netherlands support helped me out with this. It has been logged as a bug. This happens when there's a default group that is assigned to all new members in ArcGIS Online. The workaround is adding the groups parameter to the request, with the ID of the group, like this: gis.users.create(username='username',
password='password',
firstname = 'Peter',
lastname='Parker',
email='PParker@test.com',
description='Test user',
role='sadc65er16c1e5f',
user_type='Creator',
groups='<group-id>')

Thanks for your suggestion. Thanks to our local ESRI support, it seems likely that the issue is caused by a default group that is specified for new members in our ArcGIS Online organisation. I still need to confirm this, I will post an update.

I am trying to create a user with Python in ArcGIS Online. Tried this in Notebook in ArcGIS Online, in Idle for Pro (3.1.1), in a Notebook in Pro and in the command line in Pro. Every time I receive the same error message. The code is: from arcgis.gis import GIS gis = GIS("home") newuser = gis.users.create("testuserxyz_sbbabc1","1234567890QWERTYuio","Dumbo","Dumbo2","test@test.com") The error message: TypeError Traceback (most recent call last) In [3]: Line 4: newuser = gis.users.create("testuserxyz_sbbabc1","1234567890QWERTYuio","Dumbo","Dumbo2","test@test.com") File C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\envs\arcgispro-py3\Lib\site-packages\arcgis\gis\__init__.py, in create: Line 3283: return self._create64plus(**params) File C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\bin\Python\envs\arcgispro-py3\Lib\site-packages\arcgis\gis\__init__.py, in _create64plus: Line 3638: "groups": ",".join([g for g in groups if g]), TypeError: sequence item 0: expected str instance, Group found Any ideas?

This is not very well documented it seems. Something like this seems to work though: from arcgis.gis import GIS gis = GIS("home") import requests olduser = gis.users.get(<username1>) newuser = gis.users.get(<username2>) with open("<filename>",'wb') as f: f.write(olduser.get_thumbnail()) newuser.update(olduser.access, olduser.preferredView, olduser.description, olduser.tags, r"<filename>", culture=olduser.culture, region=olduser.region) This is just the basic procedure of course, needs some more work, e.g. getting the correct file type from get_thumbnail_link(), and if possible cutting out the step to save the thumbnail to disk.

It took a while longer! I tested creating a feature service with ArcGIS Pro 3.1. I can edit the feature service in ArcGIS Online without problems. Of course it's possible there has been an update in the meantime.

In ArcGIS Online and Enterprise users van mark content items as favourites. When for example moving content from ArcGIS Online logins to SSO logins with a Python script, you would want to move favourites as well (not moving the favourite items themselves, but transfer the content of the favourites group from the old to the new account). Currently this is nog possible, as admin accounts van only read the favourites group of a user with Python, not share items with it. It would be nice to have this possibility.

Hi Matthew, SAML usernames cannot be created at will, according to a pattern you like. The SAML user name is determined by the identity that ArcGIS Online receives from your Identity Provider, your IDP. ArcGIS Online then adds an underscore plus the shortname for your organisation. But yes, an explanation note would be welcome. This way of creating the usernames when using SAML is a nuisance by the way, because if you instruct your IDP to use the UPN, it will usually result in your organisation name, or some form of it, occurring twice in the ArcGIS Online username. Nevertheless, my organization opted for this way, since we consider it the best future-proof option.
