Thanks, Kory. First, I should mention that I am working in ArcGIS Pro 2.6...so I don't know if there have been any updates to these issues in newer releases. But anyway... It appears that assigning the Alt+Z accelerator allows me to change TO the rectangle zoom tool with the keystrokes....but when I release the keys it does not toggle me back to my previous tool. My goal is to toggle quickly between 'Add Control Points' and 'Rectangle Zoom'. In ArcMap, I was able to do this very easily by holding down the Z key when I wanted the zoom tool and releasing it when I was finished zooming. In Pro, the Z key has been reassigned to the 'Continuous Zoom' tool. I'm not sure of the reason for this change, and I recognize that it may not matter to some people. But for me, 'Continuous Zoom' is an inferior tool compared to 'Rectangle Zoom'...it is simply cumbersome to use and it slows me down. I agree with one of the posters on the other idea links that you provided, who stated that it would be nice if we had the ability to reassign the Z shortcut to the tool that we prefer.

Please add a keyboard shortcut for Rectangular Zoom when georeferencing. There is an existing shortcut for continuous zoom (Z)....but I would much rather have a shortcut for rectangular zoom. Rectangular zoom offers much better precision control of where you actually zoom, while continuous zoom offers only a vague movement that kind of moves you in the right direction. Georeferencing is a precise operation, not a vague one. Currently, it takes too many mouse clicks to go back and forth between rectangular zoom and the Add Control Points tool. This should be an easy toggle, but it is not. Please either add an additional keyboard shortcut for rectangular zoom, or change the existing Z shortcut to rectangular zoom instead of continuous zoom. Thanks!

I have a layout, which users access exclusively through a task. It is desirable to have all snapping OFF by default when the layout opens. So far, I have not been able to save the snap settings in the off state for the layout. Whether it is opened manually or with the task, the snapping is always turned on when the layout opens....despite varied attempts at saving the project with the snapping turned off. Snap settings for layouts are not available in the Task Editor. Is there some way to do this that I'm missing? Users are unlikely to have any use for snapping, and it actually is kind of a nuisance if it is on. The spacebar can be held down to suspend snapping, or they can turn off snapping with the button below the layout view....but this shouldn't be necessary. I just want it OFF. (I am currently using Pro 2.6.) Any input would be appreciated.

A response on this issue from the ESRI development team is WAY overdue. In my opinion, there are different ways that this issue can be addressed to my satisfaction. But continuing to do nothing is unacceptable. At least one of the following options needs to be made a reality: 1. Enable dynamic linking between a map view and a layout map frame...just as we already have the ability to link two map views. If this "gets too complicated" with multiple map frames, stop punishing those of us who only need a single map frame. 2. Create a button/command (to be used on-demand) to zoom the layout map frame extent to match (or at least approximate) the current extent of the map view. 3. Expand arcpy capabilities to be able to read the current extent/camera information from the map view and then apply that same info to the layout map frame. If this is currently possible, I have yet to figure it out. I believe we would all appreciate a meaningful response from ESRI staff on this issue.

Thanks for your input, Robert. I don't think I want to dive into Arcade at this time, as I have my hands full with just trying to move over to Pro. I should clarify that I am not set on the idea of using the pop up hyperlink to accomplish my goal....I was exploring that as a possibility, and I initially thought that it might be the quickest solution. I have managed to make some progress by going another route, which is a Task coupled with a Python Script Tool. I took the python code from my ArcMap project (which was stored as part of the display properties of my feature class layer)....and did A LOT of editing and made it into a script tool. I had to update the code for Python 3, update methods used (because what works in the python window doesn't always work in a script tool), and I also need to account for the absence of pythonaddins in Pro (still have some work to do on this part) for some error handling. The script requires a selection in order to run correctly, so I had to create a task to facilitate the user making the selection, and then the script tool runs as part of the task, after the selection is made. It is still a work in progress, but I think I'm getting close to a satisfactory solution. I am really peeved that I have to spend so much time re-engineering a solution that I developed many years ago....especially since the final product is most likely going to be a little less elegant solution compared to what I had in ArcMap. If I get this up and going, I will post more details and code. Thanks!

This used to be extremely easy to set up in ArcMap. Then they made it more complicated to set up, but you could still do it. Now I'm trying to get up to speed on ArcGIS Pro, and I'm hitting a wall. I have a polygon feature class, with a field containing a URL for each feature. Each URL is a path to a georeferenced image file, stored on our in-house network. (most are .png, some are .tif or .jpg) Hyperlinks are no longer part of layer Display properties. I followed the procedure described here: ( FAQ: Is it possible to add a hyperlink path to a field in ArcGIS Pro? ) and I successfully added a hyperlink field that works from the pop up .... but it doesn't do what I need it to do. This only opens the image in a photo viewer, but I need it to add the image to the map as a layer....preferably insert it into a specific group layer. I have python code that I had entered into the hyperlink section of the layer display properties in my old ArcMap project that did exactly what I needed (and still need).....but I'm not sure how to implement this in Pro. This should be extremely easy, but it's not. Unless I'm missing something....someone please tell me I'm missing something simple!

Yes! My thoughts exactly! I have delayed taking on Pro also...but this year I finally have the time to tackle the transition. I'm only just beginning to dive in, but this is a potential deal breaker for me also. The end users in my company will absolutely hate this. I wish I could focus more on taking advantage of new capabilities instead of constantly reinventing the wheel.

I am utterly dumbfounded that this capability is not the DEFAULT. But for it to not even be available as an option is completely absurd.

Just to wrap up for those who are following this or those who may find this post in the future... The only reasonable workaround that I have found (with lots of help from Nobbir) for this issue is to effectively create two different 'modes' for my GUI. I created a button to toggle between the two modes. When the button is pressed certain controls are enabled while others are disabled. The enabled states are reversed each time the button is pressed. By doing this, I made it impossible for my conflicting controls to be enabled at the same time. Keep in mind that you need to set the enabled states appropriately on startup. Additionally, I added some code to the execution of some of my addin controls so that the 'mode' will change automatically when that is likely to be the desired action for the user. But having the toggle button ensures that the user can switch modes at any time. This solution is less than ideal, but it is not terrible. It is adequate for the immediate needs of my particular project. In future development, I would like to see much better programmatic access to activate/deactivate and enable/disable states of addin contols.

Ok, so I'm trying to go the route of temporarily disabling the tool as part of the script execution of one of my other buttons. The name of my tool class that I'm trying to disable is 'Identify'. If I add this line to my button script: Identify.enabled = False it runs without error, but does nothing. My Identify tool is still enabled and functioning. Any thoughts?

Nobbir and Dan, thanks for your prompt attention to my post. I appreciate your time, and I will definitely let you know if I find a solution. Nobbir, I did toy around with your disabling idea, hoping that I could do something like: self.enabled = False self.enabled = True I was hoping that disabling would kick the active tool to some other tool by default and then enabling again immediately would make my tool available again (but not active)..... but it didn't work. Dan, I will take your advice and see if I can alert the appropriate people to this issue.
