ARC GIS for SharePoint is a great tool for display of geolocated SharePoint data and spatial analysis across an enterprise; however, it stops short of its potential because it does not allow designers or end users to export their maps to a format that could be used for presentations and decision support. The ability to export map web parts as PDFs or JPEGs would allow users to: Give, executives, managers and non-GIS professionals the ability to use GIS content for presentations and decision support Create useful documents that could be included in presentations and white papers Make GIS more accessible to non-GIS professionals Expand the range of communication options for GIS content Allow GIS professionals to create canned content that would be more useful to non-GIS professionals due to its its exportability Another idea which is related to this is to create the ability to have an always displayable and printable (also exportable) legend as a part of ARCGIS for SharePoint web parts . I have discussed this idea further in another post. It suffices to say here that with this legends capability and the ability to export to a presentable format, managers and executives without GIS experience would be able to export maps with legends to use in their presentations for decision support and greatly increase the impact, accessibility and visibility of Esri ARCGIS and ARCGIS for SharePoint.

I have installed ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 (ArcEditor) on a new computer and when I look for my template data under Program Files ArcGIS, 10.0, templatedata, where i have always found it the geodatabase does not show any data. I have even attempted to to move this data from another computer, but I cannot see any data in the geodatabase. Can any one give me any idea of why this is and how I can access the templates that are normally in this geodatabase? Thank you. Dan Gnatz

If your US areas are polygons, you can try to use the Erase tool to erase the areas covered by the buffer polygons. What's left shoudl be what you are looking for. Does that work for you? Dan, When I try to use the erase tool, i get the message that i am not licensed to use it. I am using a student version of ARCEditor, and I believe I need ARCInfo to use that tool. Is there a way for me to use the tool or another way for me to perform this operation? Thanks. Dan Gnatz

I have created buffers of 50 to 100 miles from medical access points. I have geocoded some patient data for the US. I am intersed in performing analysis on the areas outside of my buffers (i.e., how many patients are more than 50 to 100 miles from access points?) What is the population density in these areas. It seems to me that I want to create a shapefile that shows the US area minus the area inside my buffers, but I can't find an easy way to do this. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.
