Another issue I experienced last year was when the "login with Google" option became available. Students are used to using that option to access online textbooks and other resources. At my school we are not using single sign on, the AGO accounts are created specifically in the school ArcGIS Online Organization. One of my students elected to "sign in with Google" and in so doing created a new public account with his google user name. It took me quite a few minutes to figure out why he didn't have the analysis options that he should have had, and then a while longer for the student to make copies of the work he had done in his public account and get them back to his organization account.

Hi Tom- One thing you might want to consider if you go the Google Forms route is to create a page of links that then allow the teacher the option of making a copy of the form as the iHub Biology Curriculum does. The two screen shots below show how this works, or you can go directly to the page shown in the first image by visiting: SEET Links - Evolution - Google Docs This makes it extremely easy for the teacher to access and copy the form and ensures that Esri doesn't end up with the "student results"....that it does directly flow into a spreadsheet on the teacher's drive. Hope that helps.

Hmmm....I see what you mean. If it helps any, when I opened the map you had linked, I was provided with an option to "Open Map in Full Screen" at the bottom of the page which then did open it in the real map viewer so I could manipulate those things. Certainly not an ideal approach....

Hi Rick- I just tested, and was able to do get a contents layer I could toggle on and off by clicking the box for Layer Toggle that appeared under the Legend when I turned the Legend option on. See Screen grabs: Is that what you're looking for?

I had a student go on a hike and collect points along the way with an EFS. Most of the points include an image. We'd now like to use these photos to highlight the beautiful sites along the trail, and a Map Tour seems the best option for our audience. I know we can download the EFS data as a CSV, but when doing that you don't get the image location information (URL). I suppose we could go to the original EFS, open each image, and copy the image location and add that to the CSV as the URL and THUMB URL, but it just seems there should be an easier way...Anybody have any work arounds?

Hi Jack- I'm not positive, but I have two ideas: 1. Are all the layers in the map also shared the same way as the map? I know that frequently now AGO will warn you when you go to share a map if the layers aren't shared, but sometimes it doesn't seem to. 2. In addition to sharing with the organization, is the map also shared with a group? It's been awhile since I used Collector, and I'm just getting to the point we're setting up our data collection projects for the spring now, but if I remember correctly Collector requires that the map be shared with a specific group and not just with the organization. ....and a question... How are the teachers accessing the map, and what error message is being returned when they do? Sorry I don't have a better answer, but perhaps this will generate some thoughts from someone else... Hi Charlie- So I clicked on the link you provided above, and got this as a search result, which I didn't find very helpful. Earlier, when I saw Bob's posting I had done a web search for the compare template (I think he was looking to compare maps, not scenes) and found this link https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=87ac24135d5341b39b871ff02f3afe49 which indicated that the Compare App had been in "mature support" so I'm guessing has now gone away. Even the linked sample app now only opens with one map. I chose to reply to Bob personally, because was hoping that someone else had more info and would respond to his post. It's sad...I thought that the compare template had some advantages when you wanted to compare more then two maps so couldn't use the swipe app.

Hi Randy- How are you securely sharing to others who don't have an ArcGIS Online for Organizations account? I understand how groups work, and that groups can contain members from different AGO organizations, but I don't think (unless things have changed recently) that something can be shared privately with others who are not members of an ArcGIS Online Organization group. Also, I don't believe ArcGIS Online "Public" accounts can be members of an organization group. Also, although Public accounts can create groups and invite other public accounts to be members of that group, anything shared with that "public" group must be shared with everyone (which is a change that Esri made after the introduction of subscription accounts/organizations….originally private groups using the free public accounts could have materials that were not shared publicly). Have things changed and I missed the announcement? Hope all is well with you, Ina Ina Ahern Science Teacher Plymouth Regional High School Plymouth, NH T3G 2009 & 2013

Actually Emily, life has become much easier since my original posting. See Using subscriber content in Web Apps and Story Maps | ArcGIS Blog I just helped one of my local teachers fix the problem. It took one simple click!

Hi Maggie- A tablet may, or may not, know where you are depending on where you are and the type of tablet. All modern cell phones are required to contain a GPS which receives signals from GPS satellites and so is able to triangulate your location as long as you are somewhere that you can get a signal. Many tablets, and all those with cellular capability, contain the same type of GPS and can determine their location whether they have a data plan or not. However, if you are using an iPad that is WiFi only, which is the type available in most schools that use iPads, the ability of the tablet to determine your location depends on your being connected to the WiFi network. (There is location information associated with the WiFi router.) Once you go into the field and off network with these types of iPads (or other tablets that lack a GPS chip) your ability to locate depends on you "knowing where you are" and being able to "GIS-guess" your location on the map aerial image. Hi Rich- I've been watching and see that no one has answered your question. I don't have a real answer either, but I haven't seen anything in the documentation that there is a limit and I can tell you that we have over 80 groups in our NHEdGIS org without any issues. Ina

Our NHEdGIS Organization is available to the public at http://nhedgis.maps.arcgis.com/home/index.html although I confess we haven't updated our gallery in quite awhile. Something else to add to our "To Do" list. The Geospatial 101 changes a bit every time it is offered, depending on where it is being offered and the strengths of the presenters. You can access most of the information from links to past training on the NHEdGIS Training page (Current Training - NH Educational GIS Partnership ) For example, the 101 offered by Rebecca Lilja and Shane Bradt last year is described in more detail at: 2016 Geospatial 101 Resources - NH Educational GIS Partnership Here's a link to a Google Site from one of the 2015 Geospatial 101 showing some of the resources and work the participants did: 1 Geospatial 101 North - NHEdGISSummer2015 Last year the 101 at Hopkinton ended up as a combined workshop in which we attempted to cover a lot of the Geospatial 101 content but also the content we had planned for a second workshop entitled "WebMaps Galore." rwoolner61 and I planned most of that one, and you can access our schedule here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14UKUixuHSn873iu2FV7vep5AOznxOYJN8QsPW5fBdRs/edit?usp=sharing

Actually, public accounts can create groups and invite other public accounts to be members of the group. The issue however is how that group works. In an organization, something can be shared with a group and not made public. Anything shared with a group from a public account has to be made public. The group just becomes a way to make sharing it with certain people easier. See the very bottom paragraph at: Share items—ArcGIS Online Help | ArcGIS (A long, long time ago, before there were organizational accounts, public accounts could create private groups, and those groups can remain as is, but new private groups can't be created.)
