I'm working with ArcGIS 10.5.1, accessing an mxd file and geodatabase that are on a network server. Occasionaly the connection to the network is temporarily broken, and I get an error. When the connection is restored, unfortunately, ArcMap will not make any attempt to re-connect. Once it's gone, it's gone forever. You must close the app and lose all unsaved changes. Saving the map file with a different name is a workaround, but this shouldn't even be happening. The worst part is if you are in an edit session. There is no way so save your edits. There is no way to even see any of the data you were editing, even after the connection has been restored! You must then lose all unsaved edits. PLEASE fix this ESRI! There is no reason at all why this should ever happen!

Thank you- I found the problem. There was a layout element that was composed of multiple elements in a group that was causing the problem. I re-created it and replaced it. Not sure what was causing the shut down with the original element..

Hello - I have a recurring problem with map files. In Layout view, when I select multiple elements by dragging a box, I get the dialog 'ArcMap has stopped working'. Sometimes this happens when selecting a single element or resizing an element. I've had limited success in fixing it, usually by re-creating the map from scratch, and copying the layers and elements from the bad map file. Any ideas why this happens, and what can be done to prevent or remedy it? thanks, james

When I try to create a story map, I can only use photos from an external source. It says I need an ArcGIS online subscription, which I DO, and I am logged in. the only option is to start a free trial account. Is there a way to make this work?

Fields are formatted as numbers. There are no leading apostrophes or spaces. Imported to geodatabase as Double.

This is a VERY old problem that HAS NOT BEEN FIXED! This is especially damaging when in an edit session. map file cannot be saved, but can be saved as a different file name. Annoying, but no loss of data. An edit session cannot be saved, and you lose all edits since last save. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED?

I'm trying to import an excel table into a geodatabase. I made sure all field names are valid, and cells are formatted correctly. The imported geodatabase table is missing numeric data in some cells. On the 'input' table attached, the cells ignored are ones that have a 'D' in the cell immediately to the right of the value. See several highlighted examples and compare to the 'output' table from the geodatabase import. Why is it doing this? How can I fix it without manually adding the missing data?
