Hi All, I know the interpolation tools in ArcGIS are widely used for the estimation of weather condition and other environmental area. However, I am wondering if it is appropriate to apply interpolation techniques to the area of market research. For example, I have some survey data of individuals' willingness to purchase a certain product in the given study area. After I geocode those individuals, I wonder if I can create a prediction map to predict the location of the potential customers in the study area. I understand you have to meet certain assumptions such as auto-correlation and normal distribution to conduct interpolation. But let's assume my data are pretty robust, any thoughts on the appropriateness of using interpolation in this case? As always, your inputs are much appreciated. Thanks, Jason

Hi all, I am trying to make a map that show travel flow from place to place. I have a bunch of XY points of the travelers' origin and destination, and I had created a bunch of "travel flow line" with the "XY to Line" in the ArcToolbox. The problem is, I am having much trouble to present my data with an arrow line. For example, I tried to only show the arrow head without the line, but when I adjust the symbol properties of the line, the arrowhead adjust accordingly. Does anyone have any solution to my problem? I imagine a way to deal with this is to seperate the line and the arrowhead into seperate layers, but I haven't find a method yet to allow me to do this. Your help is greatly appreicated! Jason

Ummm..If I understand your problem correctly, I think you're trying to bring all your independent and dependent variables into the same dataset for the purupose of GWR. If you analysis measurement unit is in Census Tract, you can do a spatial join to bring your data in X Y coordinates into the Census Tract shp file. Hope it help. Jason

Thanks for the help! Do you know of any ESRI or open source online tutorial that might prepare me to conduct interpolation map with Binary or Cateogorical data? Your help is greatly appreicated. Jason

Hi all, I have a question regarding interpolation technique and I hope someone here can give me some help. I???ve done the Geostatistic ESRI online tutorial, which I am pretty sure many people in this forum have also completed. The tutorial used all sort of interpolation tools to predict Ozone level across California based on continuous data collected from air quality stations. I would like to do the same thing but I am wondering if I can do this for ordinal or binary data. For example, I have some public transit satisfaction level data from a public transit customer satisfaction survey. In this case I am almost certain that you can use Kirging to predict the satisfaction level across the study area base on sample data. However, I am wondering if we can do interpolation on binary data. For example, when the survey ask if you have ever used public transit there will be a Yes or No answer. Similar to binary regression, I am thinking if I can assign a dummy variable (Yes = 1, No = 0) as the input in the ArcGIS interpolation tool to predict the location of the public transit users and the non-public transit users across the study area. Thanks, Jason

Hi folks, In my dataset (Excel format) there is a field containing some the Start time of the field work and the end time of the field work. After I geocoded, all the time becomes 12:00AM and the field property had shown the field type as Date. To deal with this problem, I went back to the excel sheet and added 3 extra field each with a different time format - (1) h:mm AM/PM (2) h:mm:ss AM?PM (3) h:mm (4) H:mm:ss. Unfortunately, none of these worked after Geocoded. They all became 12:00AM in the Time field. Anyone know to solution to this? Thank you in Advance! Best Regards, Jason

Hi all, This is my first time posting here. I hope I am not asking a dumb question here..... For my GIS class in school, I was asked to explore the difference between buffer tool (The one in Arctool box), buffer wizard, and the buffer in the editing tool. So far, I have discovered that the buffer wizard will do "donuts" if you try to select the features within a multiple rings. For example, if you create multiple rings (lets say 2) with the buffer wizard tool, you can select the features that are only in the outer rings or inner rings. Whereas, you cannot do that with the buffer tool. Now, the questions is the buffer tool in the editing session. When I try to create a buffer with the editing buffer tool, it often said "No acceptable target available. Buffer creates new polygons or polylines. Target must not participate in a network." In some case the editing buffer tool will work but I couldn't see any buffer nor any difference after I do that. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there any difference between the editing buffer tool and the normal buffer tool?
