Does anyone know how to use the snapandsplit tool that is in the ArcToolbox in the Fish Habitat directory? There is no help associated with this tool. I was hoping to use it to snap fish tracking data to a river feature. Thanks.

I appreciate your comments, Dan. I have a point shapefile of tagged fish locations. I snapped those points to a polyline shapefile of the rivers that the fish migrated on. Should I convert the river (polyline) shapefile to a point file and calculate your code on a distance field in that newly converted point file? Thank you, Jody

Thanks, Jay. The fish location points are in order and they are in a projected coordinate system. The river (polyline) is in the same projected coordinate system. If I calculate in a distance field of the fish location attribute table using your code, is a Euclidean distance calculated? I need to calculate the distance between successive points along the river. Jody

In ArcToolbox, there is a Fish Habitat toolbox with a SnapAndSplit tool, but when I open that tool I get the message "This tool has no parameters." I was hoping I would be able to use this tool to measure distances between successive tracking locations for a fish along several rivers where the fish's movement was tracked. Thanks for any help you can give.

I have points marking tagged fish locations along a river. How do I measure the distance between each of those successive points?

I'm using 10.2.1 and trying to use the Toolbox Editing Snap Tool to snap the points in a point file to the nearest lines in a line file. I choose the point file for my Input Feature. When I choose my line file (it's listed in the drop-down menu) for the Snap Environment, I get the message "ERROR 000800 The value is not a member of END | VERTEX | EDGE." Clicking on ERROR 000800 gives this message: "000800 : The value is not a member of <value>. Description The keyword used is not a member of the list of acceptable keywords. Solution Alter the keyword used to a member of the list provided. For more information on what each keyword signifies, check the tool's help. Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this for me. Jody
