This should work: import arcpy, os from arcpy import env env.workspace = r"C:\GIS\Track1\1_Orig\Track_int1" wildcard = "xy**.shp" fctype = "POLYLINE" try: fclist = arcpy.ListFeatureClasses(wildcard, fctype) for fc in fclist: fieldList = arcpy.ListFields(fc) for field in fieldList: if field.name[:4] == "FID_": deleteField = field.name arcpy.DeleteField_management(fc, deleteField) except: print arcpy.GetMessages(0) print arcpy.GetMessages(1) print arcpy.GetMessages(2)

Hmmm, very useful for me! I am looking at doing the same thing shortly. I would be really interested to hear/see how it goes!

One option is to put your template map (can be a .mxd) in C:\Documents and Settings\<USER>\Application Data\ESRI\Desktop10.0\ArcMap\Templates When you engage ArcMap you can pick one of the maps in this folder to use for your map on the welcome screen. Hope that helps!

Hmmm, that is a bit of an annoyance. Never heard of your problem before and I have never heard of replacing the Normal.mxt to reset to original settings not working before. A bit of an anomaly I would say. Well good luck and sorry I wasn't more help. Joshua

To find out where the Normal.mxt is: Open ArcMap and choose File->New. The New Document dialogue box will open and you can make a note of the path to the Normal.mxt under the My Template pane. I will attach a screen shot of what I am talking about. Hope this does the trick. Cheers, Joshua

One option is to reset ArcMap by deleting the Normal.mxt document found in: Arc 10: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\ESRI\Desktop10.0\ArcMap\Templates or in earlier versions: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\ESRI\ArcMap\Templates I would either rename the Normal.mxt or create a backup first. The next time you open ArcMap it will be back at the factory settings.

Under the Labels tab change the Method from Label all the features the same way to Define classes of features and label each class differently. Click on the SQL Query. In the Select Box just add "Name" IS NOT NULL and click OK (you can rename this from Default by choosing Rename). Make the Label Field = Name Then click Add (to add a new class). Name it. Click the SQL Query and in the Select Box just add "Name" IS NULL and click OK. Make the Label Field = Number. That should do the trick.

If you want to sort it alphabetically/numerically you can try this tool. I haven't, but noticed it the other day: http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/file/geoprocessing/details?entryID=977F8B9B-1422-2418-A012-7EFD1F2EDB16

To make one file from 2 you can use the Append tool in ArcToolBox (Data Management -> General -> Append) and it will just add the records in one table after the last records in the other table. Hope that is what you were looking for. Joshua

I just attempted to open a ArcReader document I created in ArcView 9.3 (sorry, it isn't 9.3.1 so not 100% sure it would be the same but I am guessing it is) but I cannot open it with ArcReader 10.0.

Not 100% sure if this will help but perhaps if you change the Strategy Order on the Fitting Strategy tab so that remove duplicates is above abbreviate label it will work? Just a guess though.
