I am experiencing the same problems described in this year old thread. Periodic download and sync failures using offline collector. I can only resolve by downing the SQL Service in management studio as well. Can someone from Esri shed light on why this is occurring?

Did you ever get this to work? I am searching for a way to show 1 weeks worth of tweets on the Public Information Map Template and can not find the answer. Thanks Jessica

I have 2 questions about managing users in an organizational account 1. Is there a way to view and revoke pending invitations? I sent a test invitation to myself while trying to set up the enterprise logins on my organizational account. Long story, but I have not been able to successful install the SAML and ADF credentials (this is another issue altogether). Now this pending invitation is blocking my ability to invite anymore users because I have 17 of 18 users in my account and the pending invite is locking my last available user. Seems like there should be a way to revoke an unaccepted invitation so it does not lock out the admins ability to assign the user to another person. So to try and free up a user so I can send my needed invitation I tried disableing another user in the account. This leads to question number 2 2. Should the disable user feature free up a user in the account? if not, what is the intended function of disabling the user? Seems to me that if a user is disabled that the users seat in the organization should be free to assign to another user? can someone clarify how this works? Thanks

Our office is considering acquiring LiDAR and high resolution Oblique imagery for a few project areas around the state (1-2 TB worth). I am not familiar with the best practice for storing Raster, LASS or ASCII files or their raster bi-products (terrians, DE, contours). A colleague of mine mentioned that it is suicidal to store Raster data, let alone LiDAR, on my SDE and suggested that we purchase an image server. Currently our GIS shop dose not do large volumes of Raster analysis but we may be headed in that direction if the LiDAR is well received. So in order to purchase an image server I will need compelling evidence that it will provide the best possible solution for our minimal needs. Can anyone give me some best practice advise for storing Raster/LiDAR on an image server vs SDE vs FGDB? Many thanks!

With One way replication this is a known problem in 10.1 we are in contact with ESRI to resolve it but nothing yet. Until they do here is a workaround this seems to compress the tree to state 0 and move all delta edits to the base tables. We do this workaround on a weekly basis Any luck finding a solutions to this problem?

If you perform the unregister on the replica as the replica owner (user) it works cleanly. If you do this as any other user (even as SDE) it may not get deleted entirely, requiring the use of SDE command line to delete sync send versions. That's been my experience at least... Can you please elaborate on the sde command line that was used to delete the snyc send versions. I deleted a replica without unregistering it first and now have a ghost version that I can not get rid of. Thanks!

If your IT is smart, virtualization will make no difference and probably even increase performance if it's hooked up to a properly built SAN. Does Esri really say not to use virtualization somewhere in the docs? If they do, it's probably because it adds a huge layer of complexity, especially for troubleshooting, but with a good IT dept. that will not be an issue. There is an old forum post from June 2010 where an ESRI Senior Member says... "While possible, and supported, ESRI does not recommend production use of virtual servers for any ArcGIS Server components...." and "Databases should always be run on physical servers. ArcSDE should be run on the same physical server as the database (unless you're using clustered database technology). The only reason to run ArcSDE on a virtual server is if you'll only be using Direct connect" But alot has changes since 2010

Does ESRI suggest keeping databases on a physical server for ArcGIS 10.1? I am being asked by my IT to answer questions regarding potential virtualization of our current GIS servers. We are set up with two physical servers, one running SQL & SDE and the other dedicated to webservices. I am hesitant to virtualize (using vmware) given that ESRI suggests not to implement ArcServer and RDBMS this way.

Thanks for this post, it's old but just solved my problem. I was unable to save my ArcGIS online map if I had the popup enabled on my feature class layers. I too had the shape field turned off in my Feature class in the mxd. After turning on the shape field, saving, republishing and refreshing the cache, presto!!! The map can now be saved with pop-ups enabled!

This is awsome! Works like a charm, Thank you so very much! Caleb, I have to bug you one more time. So this worked just fine on my test dataset with lives on my c: drive in a GDB, but when I try to apply it to my SDE feature class I get an error : File "V:\GIS\DataEdits\AutomatedTasks\test\addTRSLabel.py", line 54, in <module> row.LABEL = 'T%s%s R%s%s Sec%s' %(twp, quad.split(' ')[0], rng, quad.split(' ')[-1], sec) Error Info: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'split' ArcPy ERRORS: and when I look at the attribute for the new feilds in the fc on SDE they are not populated....any thoughts as to why this would happen. Note that I did change the sections source from sections = r'C:\Users\jkirby\Desktop\Junk and Email\TestData\TestData.gdb\Owner_Surface' sections = r'Database Connections\owner_PUB@tla-gis.sde\SITLA.PUB.Owner_Surface_1' thanks again for your time!

Ok got it fixed. Your field names being different from mine definitely caused some problems. Also, the range and township fields were of float type, which was causing problems as well. I copied those fields as short ints to fix the problem. This now works perfectly for me. Here is the solution, all that you will need to change is the path to the Owner_Surface feature class. import arcpy, sys, traceback sections = r'C:\TESTING\TestData\TestData.gdb\Owner_Surface' def Quads(sections): urows = arcpy.UpdateCursor(sections) for row in urows: if row.quad == 1: row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','N W') urows.updateRow(row) elif row.quad == 2: row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','N E') urows.updateRow(row) elif row.quad == 3: row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','S W') urows.updateRow(row) elif row.quad == 4: row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','S E') urows.updateRow(row) del row, urows try: # add fields arcpy.AddField_management(sections, 'QUAD_LBL', 'TEXT','','', 3) arcpy.AddField_management(sections, 'LABEL', 'TEXT','','', 15) arcpy.AddField_management(sections, 'townshp2', 'SHORT') arcpy.AddField_management(sections, 'range2', 'SHORT') # update new field for quads label Quads(sections) # Generate full label field urows = arcpy.UpdateCursor(sections) for row in urows: row.townshp2 = row.township row.range2 = row.range quad = row.QUAD_LBL # splits by space in new quad field twp = row.townshp2 rng = row.range2 sec = row.section_ row.LABEL = 'T%s%s R%s%s Sec%s' %(twp, quad.split(' ')[0], rng, quad.split(' ')[-1], sec) urows.updateRow(row) del row, urows print 'Done' except: # Get the traceback object tb = sys.exc_info()[2] tbinfo = traceback.format_tb(tb)[0] # Concatenate information together concerning the error into a message string pymsg = "PYTHON ERRORS:\nTraceback info:\n" + tbinfo + "\nError Info:\n" + str(sys.exc_info()[1]) msgs = "ArcPy ERRORS:\n" + arcpy.GetMessages(2) + "\n" # Return python error messages for use in script tool or Python Window arcpy.AddError(pymsg) arcpy.AddError(msgs) # Print Python error messages for use in Python / Python Window print pymsg + "\n" print msgs I also used a print statement to show the labels being populated: T21S R7E Sec36 T30S R12W Sec34 T14N R2E Sec18 T2N R25W Sec2 Done This is awsome! Works like a charm, Thank you so very much!

hmmm, perhaps the row.setValue may work here:
import arcpy
sections = r'G:\PLSS\PLSS.mdb\Sections'
def Quads(sections):
urows = arcpy.UpdateCursor(sections)
for row in urows:
if row.Quad == 1:
row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','N W')
urows.updateRow(row)
elif row.Quad == 2:
row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','N E')
urows.updateRow(row)
elif row.Quad == 3:
row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','S W')
urows.updateRow(row)
elif row.Quad == 4:
row.setValue('QUAD_LBL','S E')
urows.updateRow(row)
del row, urows
try:
# add fields
arcpy.AddField_management(sections, 'QUAD_LBL', 'TEXT','','', 3)
arcpy.AddField_management(sections, 'LABEL', 'TEXT','','', 15)
# update new field for quads label
Quads(sections)
# Generate full label field
urows = arcpy.UpdateCursor(sections)
for row in urows:
quad1 = row.getValue('QUAD_LBL').split(' ')[0] # splits by space in new quad field
quad2 = row.getValue('QUAD_LBL).split(' ')[-1]
twp = row.getValue('Township')
rng = row.getValue('Range')
sec = row.getValue('Section')
row.setValue('LABEL','T%s%s R%s%s Sec%s' %(twp, quad1, rng, quad2, sec))
urows.updateRow(row)
del row, urows
except Exception as e:
print e.message
# If using this code within a script tool, AddError can be used to return messages
# back to a script tool. If not, AddError will have no effect.
arcpy.AddError(e.message)
If this doesnt work, would you mind posting just a subset of your data so I could test and figure out what is going wrong? PS I just had to fix something else in this Still getting error 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'split' attached is some test data (10.0 GDB), Thank you so much for helping me out with this!!! p.s. field names need editing (no capital letters and there is an underscore on section) quad township range section_

Ah that is an easy fix. I had it set up for if your quad field was of text type. All you need to do is remove the single quotes wrapping around the value:
for row in urows:
if row.Quad == 1:
row.QUAD_LBL = 'N W'
urows.updateRow(row)
elif row.Quad == 2:
row.QUAD_LBL = 'N E'
urows.updateRow(row)
elif row.Quad == 3:
row.QUAD_LBL = 'S W'
urows.updateRow(row)
elif row.Quad == 4:
row.QUAD_LBL = 'S E'
urows.updateRow(row)
del row, urows
Did it work with this change? when I remove the ' ' i get syntax error at row row.QUAD_LBL = N E
