Hi Ted, Many thanks. So if each student were to make a bus route as a Route FC, is there an easy way to combine them all into one Route FC with many bus routes as linear event tables? I see how we could use the Locate Features Along Route tool to generate the event table for each route based on a line, but creating the Route FC with measures that would work for all the bus route event tables eludes me, since all the buses start at the same place and branch off in different directions, then return to the bus terminal. Thanks again, John

Thanks Ted. This is very helpful. So it makes sense to make each bus route a separate Route Feature Class?

I am working with a group of students to create a geodatabase of bus routes for the local transport authority. I am looking for suggestions on the best way to proceed. My plan was for each student to create a Route FC for each bus route (there are about 40 bus routes). All the bus routes start in the same place and return to the same place. We would then convert GPS data of bus stops to point event tables, one for each bus route. Is this a good way to proceed, or is there a better approach? Advice from people who have used Linear Referencing for a bus routes would be most appreciated. My students and I are in Suva, Fiji so this is not a developed country context, if that makes a difference. Many Thanks!

Thanks to all you shared your advice. I've been informed that there is known bug with ArcScene 10.2.2. that causes this. I was advised to use ArcGlobe instead and have done so. There is no streaking when I use ArcGlobe.

I think that's what I'm doing. From Scene layers, I have set the vertical exaggeration based on extent--which comes to about 10x. I want to have the shaded relief under the transparent geology layer, so for both of them I am using the dem as the "Elevation from surfaces" and have tried setting the offset of the geology "above" the elevation surface. And it doesn't show up unless I specify an offset that is really large, e.g. 300.

I'm using a vertical exaggeration calculated from the extent (10x). The DEM x,y,z are all meters. I am using base-height of 2000 m for the geology layer. Which seems too high to me, but when I set it any lower, the geology layer doesn't drape over the dem, but seems to "cut through" it. And still there is the streaking.

Hi Micah, Thanks. I tried just as you suggested, and found that I still have streaks in ArcGIS online (http://arcg.is/1NbQxzL) I am new to working with 3d visualizations so don't know if this should be happening. I doubt it should be, so am beginning to think there might be something wrong with my data. But I don't know what. Many thanks, John

I am using Arcscene to create a 3d view with a transparent layer draped over the DEM. I find I get streaks in the view. Can someone tell me what causes this? Is there something I can do to avoid this? Many thanks.

Thank you very much for your helpful advice. I'm now using the right tool for my analysis. Also, I found that the reason the paths were not correct was because I thought were intersecting but instead overlapping. I fixed that with feature-to-line (new version of the old CLEAN). Thanks again for taking the time to post your advice.

I'm using OD Cost Matrix with a very simple network dataset (no turns, etc. just defaults). I am trying to find the closest Health Facility (Destination) to many villages (origin). When I run the the OD Cost Matrix solver most of the Destination Rank = 1 lines appear correct based on a visual inspection of the road network. However, there are several where the closest Health Facility to a village is clearly wrong. I've checked for the connectivity of the road network and there don't appear to be any gaps in the next work. I'm attaching a graphic. Notice that Health Facility 67 (Destination) is closest to village 1638 (origin) but doesn't come up with that (instead 1638 is linked (Destination Rank = 1) to a Health Facility that is a long way off (the graphic). Also notice that there does not appear to be any gap along the network (dangle errors shown). For Location Position (Load Locations dialogue) I am using a search tolerance of 1000 meters which is plenty large. Any insights are appreciated.
