Ewan, Thank you for saving me a LOT of time and a complete wipe and reinstall, since an AGS repair didn't fix the problem. FYI - This can still happen in 10.2. -Keith

Thanks Robert. I assumed you would be the one to have the answer. I was so close. I just forgot the 'creationComplete="init()">' part. -Keith

I consider what I want to do mandatory UI functionality, but from the few posts I seen on the forums, I don't think it can be done in the current 2.5 viewer. Background - I am developing a Restaurant Inspection results website. Since it will be widely used by the public, I want it to be easy and simple to use, so no extra mouse clicks necessary if possible. Question - Is there a way to set the focus to the single widget I am opening when the app initially loads so the user can start typing in a restaurant name without having to click on the widget to give it focus? I did get the focus set on the textinput box using focusManager.setFocus(tiSearch), but I still have to click on the widget itself before it gets focus from the application. Once the widget header has been clicked I can start typing, but I would REALLY like to avoid that initial mouse click requirement if possible. Thanks, -Keith

I just want to be sure I'm not the only person having issues with the Undo/Redo buttons on the Editor toolbar. Issues: If you update an attribute in the info popup, the Undo button does not become enabled. Ever. If you make a geometry change the Undo button usually becomes active, but not always. After you make a geometry change and the Undo button is active, then you can Undo the attribute changes you made. If you make a single edit and the Undo button becomes active and you then press the Undo button, a lot of times an "Undo failed" message appears, even if the undo works. If you make a single edit and the Undo button becomes active and you then press the Undo button, the "Undo processing" message appears and never goes away. After that you are unable to do any more edits. This isn't consistent, but it does happen fairly often. Sound familiar? Just trying to get a sanity check on this. Thanks, -Keith

So which route did you go? Silverlight? I am really starting to regret telling our clients to go the Flex route rather than Silverlight. I'm royally screwed right now because I have to tell a large client that they can't snap using the editing tool I just developed for them because snapping is only in Silverlight, not Flex. Sigh. It would make things a little better if ESRI were to respond and actually tell us if/when snapping will be in the Flex API, but there has been a deafening silence from them on this issue.

Dan, The OR should be working. I did a Query (GET) with APN = '52-1446-6' OR APN = '52-1448-13' on my parcel layer and had two results returned. Just as a test you might try the query in SQL Server Management Studio just to be sure it works there. Wish I had an answer, but at least you know it should be working. -Keith

It is very frustrating to see that the REST API for Silverlight has snapping when adding features, but that functionality doesn't yet exist in the REST API for Flex. When is this coming? Editing without being able to snap is pretty useless if you are trying to add features to existing layers.

Is anybody else out there having problems cutting line features in the Editor Widget when you have more than 1 layer on the Template list? I am using the latest Flex Viewer and REST API. When I have a polygon feature layer and a line feature layer loaded in the Editor Widget the cut will not work on the line feature. If I remove the polygon layer, cut works fine for the lines (ok "fine" is a relative term. Fine would be cutting only the selected line feature and not every line feature the "cut" line crosses, but I can deal with that). I'm trying to figure out if this is a REST API bug or a "feature" of the Editor Widget. Thanks, -Keith

Hi All, I trying to upgrade a 9.3 ArcObjects app to ArGIS 10 and I'm having one last problem that I can't seem to fix. I'm doing a simple Dim propertySet As IPropertySet = New PropertySet(), but I keep getting the following error: "Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {588E5A11-D09B-11D1-AA7C-00C04FA33A15} failed due to the following error: 80040111 ClassFactory cannot supply requested class (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040111 (CLASS_E_CLASSNOTAVAILABLE)" I've tried creating a simple project with just this line and the ESRI.ArcGIS.esriSystem library and I still get the error message. I'm using ArcGIS SDK 10 SP1, Visual Studio 2010 VB.NET, and .NET 3.5 SP1. Any suggestions? Thanks, -Keith

Chris, I wasn't clear enough explaining that you did need to create a scheduled event to run this. The script has error logging that writes to the event logs, but if you run it interactively then you get the messages posted to the screen. That said, it is good you ran it interactively since it appears to be having a problem. Based on the errors you posted I think you need to change the array size on the "Dim servers" or "Dim services" line. In vbscript, arrays are "0" based. That means if you have a single item the array size would be "0" (like Dim servers(0)). If you have two items the array size would be "1". You are getting a subscript out of range error which is likely because the array is larger then the number of elements you have. Check the servers and services arrays to be sure you the size is correct. Also, once the script is working properly, you can take the LogIt lines out of the loop so they don't fill up your event log. -Keith

Chris, It sounds like you have a case of the sleeping web services. A common ailment that is curable. If you are running AGS 9.3 then you will need to put the attached file on a computer and schedule a job to have it run every 20 minutes. Any longer and the services will go nighty night. You will need to rename the script from .txt to .vbs and then edit the name of the web servers and AGS web services. If you are using AGS 10 then there are tools available for fixing broken connections. This info is @ http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserver/10.0/help/arcgis_server_dotnet_help/index.html#//009300000069000000.htm. Good luck, Keith

Thanks for that suggestion Dasa. That's fixed the non-pan issues I was having. I did see this property before, but the documentation (or at least the property name) is misleading. For those reading this, setting the checkforMouseListeners to false doesn't actually turn off the mouse listeners. It just turns off the pan/zoom prevention. -Keith

Rich, Based on the functionality you are describing, there really isn't a need to replicate the code-based functionality you had in ArcIMS. Just define the layer groupings in your mxd, add the appropriate layers to those groups and use the MapSwitcher widget (http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/help/widgets/mapswitcher_widget.htm) in your application. Map Switcher will display the grouped layers under the More button and allow the users to turn on/off any layer groups or individual layers under the groups that they want. -Keith
