After just a little more digging, it looks like this is what I am looking for https://developers.arcgis.com/flex/sample-code/query-result-on-map.htm It sets the graphicProvider to the results of the query and I think I can put both spatial and attribute criteria in a single query. Thanks again, Evelyn! I wouldn't have stumbled across this without your suggestions!

Evelyn, Do you know if there is a way to include spatial criteria within a definition expression? In my case, I have line features and want to show all line features that are fully contained within a polygon.

Evelyn, Thanks for the quick response! Looking at the example, it appears that it is changing the renderer of each feature based on if it falls within the extent. However, the functionality that I am looking for is basically the exact same functionality as a definition expression, meaning that only the features that match the criteria are considered to be part of the layer (displayed on the map, visible in an attribute table, etc.)

Hello, I have a web application that provides the user with several different options to subset the visible features on the map. Most of the subset criteria is applied using a layer's definition expression. One way I would like to allow the user to subset the visible features is to allow the user to draw a polygon on the map and only the features that are within the polygon get displayed. What is the best way to achieve this behavior? I am currently using ArcGIS Flex API and the layer type is an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer.

Hello, Description of data The data being collected is environmental data from one device with multiple sensors. There is one location and time stamp with multiple environmental measurements. For example, at 10:00 am on 1/1/15 at some coordinate, the temperature was x, the wind speed was y and the wind direction was z. Different devices collect different types of measurements. The way that the database schema is setup is to have a feature class containing points and a separate table for measurements, where there are multiple measurements per point. Point Table Point ID Shape TimeStamp Measurement Table Measurement ID Measurement Type Measurement Value Measurement Units Point ID The two tables are linked using the Point ID. Desired Functionality My web application is a viewer into an archive of measurements. It's purpose is to allow the user to fill in some query criteria and subset the data that is in the view. An example query would be something like displaying all the points between date x and date y where wind speed was collected. The problem This would normally be handled simply by setting a definition expression like MeasurementTbl.MeasurementType = "wind speed", but the problem is that the spatial table containing the point has a 1-to-many relationship to the measurements table and when creating a join, the result is that only the first measurement record is paired with a point in the resulting layer. For example, for a point with two measurements, say wind speed and temperature, if temperature is the first record to be paired to the point record, the wind speed record is lost. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have a map service that provides a feature layer that is pointing to an Oracle database table with an SDO_GEOMETRY column. The table has 40k+ records and recently I started seeing the following error in the ArcGIS Server logs. GeoDatabase Error: Underlying DBMS error [ORA-01722: invalid number][tablename] I'm not sure how to figure out which record is causing the problem. When I attempt to open the map document containing the feature layer, I only see 135 records, but when I use SQLPlus to query the table from Oracle, everything seems fine. Any suggestions? The server is ArcGIS Server 10.0 and Oracle is 12c

Robert, That's really great news! Also, as a quick test, I changed my FeatureLayer to an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer and "VAULA!" I all features loaded. I really appreciate the help. You might see a couple questions from me soon Thanks!!!

Robert, I am not really sure. I am new to flex development all together, much less the ESRI Flex API. I inherited this project from another developer who is no longer available. One of the reasons I think that a FeatureLayer is being used is because the application uses the <esri:infoWindowRenderer> to display metadata when the user selects a feature. Another reason may be that the application uses <esri:AttributeTable>. Is it possible to get the functionality of these two components with an ArcGISDynamicMapServiceLayer? By the way, I really appreciate your feedback!

Yes, in ArcGIS Manager, on the Parameters tab for th service, I have 'Maximum Number of Records Returned by Server' set to 100000. (probably not a good idea, but I'm just troubleshooting at this point)

Hello all, I have a simple web application that I've built using ESRI's Flex API. I am using an Oracle database and ArcGIS for Server 10.0. My application contains a single polyline feature layer with about 35,000 records. When my application loads, I set the definition expression to something like "1=-1" in order to have nothing displayed at startup. My application provides some UI components that basically allow the user to set a definition expression. The problem that I am having is that if a user creates a definition expression that returns a large number of records, it takes a long time before the "updateEnd" event occurs. After the updateEnd event occurs, no features are displayed in the map. However, if the user creates a definition expression that returns a smaller number of records, everything displays as it should. Is there some sort of timeout that is occuring when the map service is attempting to retrieve the records?Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! -Keith

Hello, I am trying to find out if I can accomplish basic CRUD operations on an Enterprise geodatabase using ArcGIS Runtime SDK for Java or if I need to use ArcObjects. I am looking at developing a service that will run on my server that is going to monitor a few folders. As various files are added to these folders, my service needs to parse these files and insert/update/delete records in an enterprise geodatabase. Can I implement this using the runtime sdk? Thanks in advance for any feedback! -Keith
