Sorry I didn't see this reply earlier, but so far ESRI thinks they have all the Answers.... Hint: Go back to Arcview 3.x style layouts.

Is it too much to ask that Multiple Layouts Referencing the same Map allow the user to turn off layers individually per layout, and change Symbology individually per layout? At this point, I'm having to insert new Maps for every layout that I want! Come on ESRI you can do this... right?

Hyperlinks do work in ArcReader just like they work in ArcMap ArcReader is Free, but you need a published map to open. To create your own published map you will need the ESRI Publisher extension, which is NOT FREE.

Thanks, but This did not Help us with the trace tool... If zoomed out too much it just won't trace. Only solution is to zoom in as tight as possible and have as few layers as possible.

Brett, When I have to trace geographically large areas, I will choose the "Trace selected features" option in the Trace options (hit the O key on your keyboard when using the trace tool)... It works more times than not. Also, open your feature Cache tool bar and play with some some of the cache settings. But ESRI should have fixed this by now! This proves that those designing the software don't Really use it!

We have also had this exact problem since 10.0 A work around we found is that you have to zoom in to as small an extent as possible and usually the trace tool will begin working again. I think that arcmap's trace tool starts to choke when there is too much geometry displayed on the screen, because it reads all visual vertices into memory. By zooming way in, it reduces arcmaps task of storing all the geometry.

The User just informed me that it also crashes at times when he is actively using Arcmap. so it is not only when the workstation is locked.

No this is not a stand alone install, it is concurrent use, and the license manager is on the GIS server. The Data is also on the GIS SQL server. The same machine had zero problems in Windows 7. Our agency requires us to lock the workstation prior to taking breaks.

We upgraded one of our users to windows 10, and his ArcMap 10.4.1 crashes every time he locks then unlocks his workstation. All the rest of us are on windows 7 and don't experience this issue. Dell T3600 Intel Xeon 3.3 ghz 16 GB Ram 64 bit system Nvidia Quadro 4000 - 2gb

We have been experiencing this bug since 9.3 All 5 editor licenses users are experiencing the same bug. If the trace tool doesn't like the geometry of an item, it won't work period. Also, if you are viewing too large an area, it won't work. The trace tool loads into memory everything on the screen, but will bug out if you are displaying too much info. Our work around that works 95% of the time is to change your Trace Options (hit O when you are using the trace tool) and check the box for it to "Trace Selected Features". Now you only need to "pre-select everything you want to trace (don't overload it). ESRI looks to not be very thorough in fixing bugs. I reported a problem with the "New 10.1 Enhanced" Reshape Topology Edge Tool. It is supposed to work with multiple adjacent edges (It does not). It still only works with one edge at a time as in the 10.0 version. ESRI replicated the problem, and that was over a year ago, and it still isn't fixed in 10.1 or 10.2 In my opinion ESRI Advertises tools that work when they don't.
