DCochran-esristaff Should we use our existing login to our regular Enterprise AGO account or create a new one? Want to be able to access my existing account where all my company stuff is located.

Hey James, Ok, took a look at the link. I agree, looks like the Finder app. So I did some testing on a shapefile I already had uploaded to AGO previously. Mine is already published as a feature service/layer and I do have the option to publish again if needed. Not sure why you don't have this option but in my testing I can't even create a map from the actual shapefile. The only option I get when clicking the Open pulldown is Download. When viewing the details of the feature service/layer created from the shapefile and clicking the Open pulldown, I get the option to create new map from this layer. I save the map and click Share and Create A Web App. From there I used the Finder app, configured to search the attribute I wanted and bingo it worked! Shapefile Finder Test screenshot on Screencast.com I checked what I said earlier about just enabling Feature Search from the shapefile details>Edit screen and from the feature service/layer details>Edit screen and neither gave me that option. However, searching within the app worked fine. I've had this happen before when trying to figure out why I couldn't enable Feature Search from the layer details page and my conclusion is that AGO has coded these two methods of searching features differently. Long-winded I know, but said all that to say, I think Russ is correct in that your problem seems to be stemming from the fact that you can't publish your shapefile as a feature service/layer. No, you should not need ArcServer to do what you wanting to do as long as your fine with periodically uploading updates for your maps. Hope this helps, Lane

Hi James, How is your data normally stored (PGDb, FGDb, Enterprise GDb)? Do you have ArcGIS Server? Knowing this may keep you from having to upload anything as you can create a feature searchable map without the data being hosted on arcgis online depending on your answers above. For example, if your data is stored in an EGDb behind a firewall not facing the public side of the internet and you have ArcGIS Server, you can use ESRI's WebAdapter as a reverse proxy server to expose it and allow your data to feed to your AGO maps. However, if you have to upload data, I don't think feature searching will work on a shape file. It must be a FGDb. Which you should be able to create and upload. You also, don't have to create an app for features to be searchable. You can just go to the details of the map and enable searching by layer, tell it the layer name and attribute to search on, and whether the search value should be an exact match or just contain the value.

I'm trying to publish a feature service using our SQL Server enterprise database 2008 R2 to our ArcGIS Server v10.2.1, that will then be consumed on AGO, running ArcMap advanced 10.2.1a and keep getting the following error . The only Analyzer errors I'm getting is one for not having a template and a couple for having ArcFM com objects, which is normal for us running ArcFM. I'm logged into the server and the map with a connection that has privileges to edit. I can publish map services, and have been for some time now, without any problems. Our GIS Server is behind and firewall and we're using WebAdapter to port the data to AGO. Also, don't see anything about it in the Event Viewer logs. Any help resolving this or pointing me to error codes would be great!

Trying to convert all the photos and sketches we have stored in a raster data type field in several feature classes to the new ArcGIS attachments method. Hoping for a built-in tool in ArcMap for this but may have to resort to Python (pretty newbie to Python). All our data is stored in a SQL Server Enterprise Db. We do have ArcServer installed as well and using AGO so hope using attachments will make the photos viewable on AGO and ArcGIS Explorer and Collector apps. I've tried this which seems to be exactly what I have in mind, but keep getting an error and the arcpy.da.SearchCursor help says raster fields are not supported. Here's the error I'm getting: Runtime error Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 10, in <module> RuntimeError: cannot open '\plwc_gis.LANE.WastewaterDataset\plwc_gis.LANE.wwCustomerConnection'

I think you may have answered by question Xander. I'll try to Python script in your first link. Sounds like that will do what I want it to. I added some more tags but not really sure how to create a thread unless I just start a new question. Is that what you had in mind? Thanks for your help, Lane

[Note: branched from Exporting Raster Data Type Attributes - 05 Mar 2015 - V] Michael, Did you ever figure this one out? I have the same situation. Now that ESRI has come out with attachments, I'd like to move all my photos stored as raster data types for each feature to the new format. Thanks, Message was edited by: Vince Angelo

BINGO!! That did it. Will I need to add a layer separately in my AGO map for each layer that has attachments? Currently I have all my water and sewer layers in one WaterSewer.mxd and each utility is in its own group...so nice and tidy. If I have to do this separately, is there a way to group the layers together in AGO as I did in the mxd file? Lane

My layers are like Jeff stated below in a published .mxd. I tried changing the URL to the service with both a 0 and 5 (only layer that currently contains attachments) but no luck. I didn't remove and add the layer back. I just edited the existing layer's URL. Would that make a difference?
