Hello, I'm trying to publish a map service containing a large .tif raster (48GB). I managed to publish a small cached raster successfully (for testing), but when I tried to publish the large one, the cache generation got stuck at 0% even though it kept saying it's in progress. Now I can't even publish the small one because the application is not responding right after I select "Publish". Details: -It's an ArcGIS Server Enterprise 10.1 on a Windows Server 2008 OS machine. - the machine is on a Microsoft Azzure cloud. - the machine has 4 CPU cores (so I set the number of instances to 5). - it's a raster TIF file with LZW compression. - I chose 5 scales, and tried different formats for the tiles. Thanks for your help

I am trying to publish a map service containing a cached raster layer on our ArcGIS Server Enterpise 10.1. I analyze the map service before publishing and no error. The error I get when publishing is: The service has been published successfully. The cache for the service has been enabled but the cache generation failed." Further details: the GIS Server and the folder are on the same machine, with Windows OS. we're talking about a virtual machine in the cloud. the raster layer is created from a mosaic raster in .tif format (size= 1,5 GB). I use ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 I am trying to create a 5 scale cache. PS: Found the error on esri forum, but it's for ArcGIS Online servers:http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/60488-Error-Publishing-a-Map-Service-for-ArcMap-to-ArcGIS-Online Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey Ligia, I think the only way to do this is select the new segment, use the buffer tool and then append it to your buffer FC. What do you use the buffer for? Tim Thanks for the quick reply, So basically the answer is NO 🙂 I use the buffer to select addresses inside the buffer. But the purpose of the automatic update of the buffer is mainly for display purposes.

Hello, Is there a way I can update the results of my Buffer analysis? I have a roads FC ,and I've build a buffer for it. But I will still make edits to the road FC. Let's say I add a new segment of road, how can I automatically buffer the new segment without creating a new buffer FC? I use ArcGIS 10.1 Thank you for your help.

In a similar vein, why not just delete the incorrectly joined rows (those with NULLs in some key column) and re-append, paying close atention to field compatibility. You could even append using SQL, which will be more forgiving on types. - V 1) Hello again. Re-appending would create new features, and I want to update the existing ones. the reason I insist on updating the existing ones, is because I've already run a procedure on them. More precisely, the features we've talked about are point FC and they have received a code which I later used in a polyline FC. The polylines are defined at ends by these point FC I'm talking about and by their codes. But if there is no other solution, I guess I will delete them, re-append, recreate the geo-network and run again the procedure. 2) Feature type- point, number of rows: 2000. 3) I think the appending went wrong because it was checked "NO TEST", so probably it was a compatibility between fields problem for sure. Can't remember what happened during the append, it's been a while. 4) The spatial join creates a new feature class, so that's not a solution I think.

What version of ArcGIS are you using? What service pack? In what type of geodatabase is the data stored? If ArcSDE, which RDBMS? Is there an attribute key on which you can join in both tables? - V Sorry, forgot to give details. So its' ArcGIS 10.1 SP 1. It's an ArcSDE Geodatabase on PostgreSQL. And unfortunately, no I don't have an attribute key to use for join. The attribute table is almost empty.

I want to load data into existing features (not existing feature classes). Maybe it's really simple, but I have no idea how to do that now. I appended some data into an existing feature class (let's call it B), but at the end, some fields from feature class A were not transferred, so I want to bring the data from those not-transferred fields (FC A) into the existing fields of the existing features (feature class B). In other words I just want to fill in some cells in the attribute table of FC B with values from FC A. Append tool won't help, Load Objects won't help, Simple data Loader won't help, xml import won't help, doing it manually won't help because we're talking about a lot of data and of various values. Is there a "more automatic" way than Spatial Adjustment's Transfer Mapping? Thank you a lot for you kind suggestions, Ligia

Hello everyone, I have a rather simple question. Are there other methods of extracting selected data (in ArcMap) than the classical - right click on the layer->Data-> Export data ? The Distributed Geodatabase Toolbar or the extract wizard extracts the whole geodatabase. What I desire is this-> create a selection of several FC on the map and then export the selection (as FC/shp) using just one tool instead of exporting data from each layer included in the selection. Thank you. I am using arcgis 10.1

Hello, I made some modifications in the database (deleted some fields from ArcCatalog) but they're still there (both ArcCatalog & PostgreSQL). So I tried to compress the gdb. When trying to compress the database I get this error: --------------------------- Compress Database --------------------------- Failed to compress the database. Underlying DBMS error [ERROR: duplicate key value violates unique constraint "r60_sde_rowid_uk" DETAIL: Key (objectid)=(1) already exists. ::SQL state: 23505] [sde.DEFAULT] --------------------------- I did find this article explaining what to do, but it's not for the arcgis 10.1 version. Plus, I have difficulties in writing commands, as I'm not an IT professional. Is the procedure the same as it is explained in this article? As I said we use arcgis 10.1 SP1 with an PostgreSQL sde geodatabase. Thank you a lot for suggestions!

Nope, you cannot. Sorry. I have the same deployment as you. You have to add your new SQL Express instance to your Database Servers in Catalog, and then you just right-click that instance> 'new Geodatabase'. Let me know if you are having any trouble adding your new instance. First of all , thank you for the quick and kind reply. second of all, did " add your new SQL Express instance to your Database Servers in Catalog, and then you just right-click that instance> 'new Geodatabase'" but I get this error message afterwards:"Failed to connect to the database. bad login user" thank you again

Hello, My questions is probably a simple one. I have lots of lines (in one feature class) which share the same location but I want to represent them as lines that are next to each other because they have different properties (different OWNERS). So, my first try was transforming them in "Cartographic Line Symbol' -> 'Line Properties' set my offset different for each one. Which is fine except:.... I attach a photo of before and after 🙂 As you can see when I choose to represent the lines according to their owner, due to the offset I get those "ruptured" lines. The offset works great, but I need all the lines to be conneted and ending in a junction. Something like this: So I tought the solution is to create a representation, but not sure how to use a text field (OWNERS) in order to create those parallel lines (the equivalent of Symbology->Categories-> Unique Values-> Value field: OWNER). I know I should use the offset geometric effect. but that's it. Thanks,

If you are just trying to copy the value from you ID field and place that in feature that is intersecting it, you willl have no problem. Hello again, Well, I got the INTERSECTING_EDGE, the GENERATE_ID, and a couple of other simple ones right, but I still can't make it work for other ones. for example : Several methods give me the aproximately same error: - INTERSECTING_FEATURE_DISTANCE : ERROR/WARNING: was not found. - NEAREST FEATURE: ERROR/WARNING: was not found. - SIDE: SIDE was found at index: 28 Trying: SIDE Feature and valueinfo is valid Splitting up value info: TRASEE | OBJECTID | OBJECTID Finished: SIDE - INTERSECTING_FEATURE: COD_NOD_1 was found at index: 18 Trying: INTERSECTING_FEATURE Starting to process rule Value Info is: NODURI | COD_NOD | F ERROR/WARNING: Source Layer not found: NODURI Finished: INTERSECTING_FEATURE - CASCADE_ATTRIBUTE: ERROR: CASCADE_ATTRIBUTE: Target layer was not found I can imagine it would be difficult to find the problem for each one of them, but is it somewhere a section on ESRI help ressources dedicated to the errors in Attribute Assistant log file, and especially how I can fix them? Thank you agaian

1: For intersecting_edge, you must have a be using a geometric network on the feature that is being created/modified and the edge you wish to select. It will only copy one field from the intersecting feature into one field of the source feature. If you want to copy more multi fields from the intersected feature and you can look at intersecting statistics with the CONCAT option, then use a Expression rule to break them into multi fields http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/localgovernment/10.1/index.html#/Intersecting_statistics/028s00000093000000/ 2: You can edit unversioned data, you just need to change the editor options in ArcMap to do this. 3: I do not understand the question, can you provide more details? If a field has a relationship tied to it, changing the value with affect the relationship to related records First of all, Thank for your replies. Second of all, I'll try your suggestions tomorrow and come with an answer if they worked for me or not. 3. What I meant was this: I have this field called "unique_code" (string type) which I use as a foreign key in a relationship class which I've created before having installed Attribute Assistant. Now I want to use this "unique_code" field in the Dynamic Value table as well, for the INTERSECTING_EDGE method. Can the fact that the field is already used as a foreign key in a relationship class, prevent me from using the method? Hope I was clear enough. Thank you
