Hello - One of our students is receiving an error message with Business Analyst. Below is a description of the problem and the error message. I receive an error message when attempting to save a layer. The layer contains census tract/block groups and 1-10 locations. I ran a suitability analysis with variables from the GIS database, and attempted to save the layer. I received the error message "an error occurred with project data." Additionally, when I added points of interest to my base map and attempted to save the new points of interest as a layer, I received the same error message as before. The project previously allowed me to save several other suitability analyses as layers. Appreciate any suggestions on how to best help this student.

I'd like to add the GIS day Events that are displayed on the map on https://www.gisday.com/en-us/overview as a feature layer on my own map so that I can filter online and hybrid events. Last year I was able to search for and find the feature layer for the 2022 GIS day Events. Are the 2023 Events that were created from Survey123 Event Registration publicly available as a feature layer?

Hello! Reaching out to my T3Gers for some assistance. A colleague of mine asked me a question: I'm contemplating some research options for my students in GEOG 355. I like giving them some options. One option that I was thinking about involved having students pick an ethnic enclave in the US and then use GIS to map out supermarkets to see if there are potential food deserts. The problem is I'm not sure if there's a layer that exists for this or how they would go about finding the data to map. Another idea that I had involved having them map environmental hazards in an ethnic community as well. Again, I'm not sure if there are layers that show air or water pollution, or the location of (former) waste/toxic dumps. I've responded with the following: Please check the maps I shared with you in ArcGIS Online: https://arcg.is/1b448f0 Related resource for Food Deserts & GIS: https://wisconsin.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/psu10sci.vid.geospatial.fooddeserts/geospatial-revolution-food-deserts/ I'm not sure if this would be helpful in relation to environmental hazards: https://www.epa.gov/eco-research/ecoregions I will also point them to the geoinquiries, although I'm not sure any of the geoinquiries specifically address what they are hoping to do. I'm wondering if anyone else has additional resources/lessons/layers that you think would be helpful here. Thanks in advance!

I definitely would have access to that . . . so, are you thinking just overlay that on a map & incorporate into Survey123? (not sure how I'd handle floors - multiple maps?)

I'm serving on a COVID-19 response team at my institution. I'll be working with our HR & Health dept. to develop a process for students/staff to self-report symptoms. Survey 123 seems ideal, but what would be even better would be if we had ArcGIS Indoors working & had our dorms mapped. This is something we wanted to do years ago during H1N1. Any suggestions on "how to get started quickly"? I'm thinking one suggestion would be, leverage the help of an area GIS expert to see if they would do some volunteer work to help us get this rolling. I'm pretty sure I could get CAD files of the dorms.

Thanks Charlie - I agree, and am glad that 5-step process was not distilled down to something simpler. My question however, was less for "application/education" purposes, but more for "presentation" purposes when presenting to a VERY GENERAL audience about WHAT GIS is, and how it is used (and I have 10 minutes to do this.) - so, more for "infomercial" purposes, I thought I had see a simpler process used to describe the GIS process. The audience I will be presenting to are not necessarily educators - it is a wide range of careers, occupations, ages, etc.

I thought I saw somewhere recently that the 5-step geographic inquiry process: ask, acquire, explore, analyze, act, had been simplified to a 3-step process: ask, explore, act. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

Are there any "auto" fields for #Survey123 that can be used? For example . . . I'm looking for a drop-down field that asks users to select a State from the US. I'd rather not type in all of the states. Does this already exist that I could use?#

Thanks Charlie! While Survey123 may meet my needs, the MAKE A GROUP MAP handout by @geoporters may be the way to go. Appreciate the help!

Quick question . . . this is for a group of students. Is it possible for the class to collaboratively edit a map notes layer? Or, even add their OWN Map Notes layers to a collaboratively-edited map? I would prefer to do this over using a Feature Service layer, simply because the students will want to add more to the pop-up than what is possible with the Feature Service layer. Thanks for the help!
