I am following the tutorial for Georeferencing, using ArcMap for Desktop, version 10.3.1. The tutorial does a georeference and provides 3 UNmatched points, and 1 tied; however, they do NOT show up as different colors; thus, I don't know which point to choose. I cannot "zoom to", or identify either. I don't know why the tutorial differs from what I see on screen.

I tried this method for my Windows 8.1 machine, but to no avail (I know your instructions were for Win 7). It is not necessary to uninstall explorer 11 and 10. In Windows7 there is an option to shut off windows functions. When you do that, the tool works correct. Support should know that, though... Turn off Internet explorer in Windows7 Open the Control Panel Choose Programs Choose Programs and features, turn Windows features on and off A panel shows - turn off Internet explorer And go ahead with simplifying!

I am trying to find the distance between a mutual fund's headquarters location and the stocks that it owns. For example, the mutual fund, Union Investment (headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska) owns 48 stocks throughout the USA. In ArcMap 10.2 (Info), I have to: - select by Attribute the individual fund from my Fund layer (e.g. Union Invst) - select by Attribute the stocks that are owned by Union Invst (in the Stock layer, under the FUND_FAM column) - use "Generate Near Table" which gives me the distance (Input=Stocks, Near=Funds). It works, however, I will need to do this 226 times, as that's how many funds I have to do. I'd like to do this in Modelbuilder, but I need help. I believe this is some kind of iterate function, but I do not understand this very well. I appreciate any advise. The green triangles represent locations of mutual funds, which can dozens (or hundreds) of stocks. The NEAR tool allows me to find the distance between a specific mutual fund (e.g. "CHICKASAW CAPITAL MGMT") and each stock (e.g. BUCKEYE PARTNERS LP, CROSSTEX ENERGY INC, etc). Since I have 226 mutual funds for which I need to locate their stocks, how can I do this in Modelbuilder? If I do this in ArcMap, I first must use Select by Attribute for Fund_Families ("F_FAMILY" = 'CHICKASAW CAPITAL MGMT'), and must do the same for Stocks layer. Then, I can use the NEAR tool. But I don't want to have to do this 226 times. I just don't know Modelbuilder well enough to figure it all out. I appreciate any help!

Okay, I got it now. So, I downloaded the zip file from sourceforge.net, as you indicated. I now realize that this is installed "on top of" the existing Python that come with ArcMap 10.2. Then, I went to C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.2\Lib\site-packages\pythonwin\Pythonwin.exe and can now run the program. YAY! Thanks everybody for your help. Mark Mark, The Python non-console script interpreter pythonw.exe, is not the PythonWin IDE ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/pywin32/files/pywin32/Build 218/ ) ArcGIS no longer ships the PythonWIn IDE and its pyWin32 based GUI. Your default ArcGIS 10.1 or 10.2 install will have only the native Python GUI--IDLE, or Esri's Python console in ArcMap. If you'd like to use the PythonWin IDE current build is 218 and you'll want the Python 2.7 specific build, pywin32-218.win32-py2.7.exe Of course this is all a bit shaky on Windows 8.1 where you will need to install ArcGIS 10.1 or 10.2 with compatibility settings, although ArcGIS 10.2.1 seems to be stable. Thank you for that. Well, I downloaded the file you recommended, but it looks like it just copied what I already have (I have 10.2 ArcInfo). I see the file Pythonw.exe, but nothing happens when I click on it. I changed the Compatibility setting to "Windows 7", and even "Run as Administrator", but nothing happens. This Windows 8.1 has just been a nightmare. Does this program work for you?

I want to use use the NEAR tool, in Python, to get the distance from a set of stocks (ss.jpg) to one mutual fund (ff.jpg). I've partially figured it out: arcpy.Near_analysis(r'HOLDINGS\ANCORA_ADVISORS',r'FUNDS\SAMPLE_FUND_FAM03_MI') BUT, I need to learn how to choose a specific ROW from my mutual fund. For example, my mutual fund is "Ancora Advisors" (see ff.jpg); so, I can I choose that specific row, do a NEAR, then go onto the next fund?

Okay, I followed and it worked.... sorta. As per img1, I was successfully able to create a temporary masked layer As per img2, I exported it to a permanent layer (note: both my raster & polygon layers use NAD83 UTM 11) But on img3, notice that the bottom portion of my image is "cut off" somehow . I'm not worried about the "fringed" effect on the right-hand side of the image, as that's another problem (I originally used Extract by Mask to reduce the size of the original raster... and for some reason, while it did produce a smaller-size raster, it added those fringes on the right... I dunno!) Andrea, You can use the Mask button on the Image Analysis Window in ArcGIS 10. Image Analysis window: Processing section Regards, Eric

I remember why I had the problem: although I can see the Raster, I cannot figure out how to add the polygon part. You select the raster you want to Clip/Mask in the Image Analysis window (IAW), from the list of rasters. You also select a polygon (feature class polygon), and then just hit the Clip or Mask button in the IAW. The layer is temporary by default.

Hi Eric, Yes, the problem is I simply don't understand how to use that feature. I tried it, but I was not able to do it. When I was shown the 'convert to graphics' thing, it was just so easy, that I didn't even bother with the other one. No problem Mark. I just didn't want you to keep having to start blank maps. Is there a reason why you're going through this 'convert to graphics' workflow rather than just hitting the Mask button on the Image Analysis Window? I mentioned this method well before Jeff S. replied to you -technically it was even before you posted the question. Maybe you didn't read the whole thread. You can also Clip with the Image Analysis window - all you need to do for both is select a polygon from your feature class. No conversion to graphics required.

Thanks, Eric. It always gets me when the simplest thing (then I forget to do it). Okay, it's making me giggle. Mark, To get rid of the graphics you created, just select them and hit the Delete key. Eric
