We are using Enterprise 10.9, going to 11 very soon.   The main person in charge of publishing portal Basemaps says that we need to have both a Tile Layer and a Vector Tile layer.  The Vector Tile Layer has several thousand Counts, and the Tile layer has 0 Counts.   Do we really need both? I've tried a lot of different settings, but none of them seem to have any impact on the file size.  Witness the two snippets below.  These are all 8.5 x 11 Layouts. Does anybody have any ideas of how to get the file size down?  I know that ArcPro makes a larger PDF than ArcMap, but this seem ridiculous. Also, we do not want to use Adobe Acrobat to reduced the file size.  With about ten engineers making maps, this would take quite a bit of extra time and cost, and I would think for all the richness that ArcPro brings to the table, it could make output a manageable file size. So, we use a lot of layer files, and I like to create Dictionaries for labeling.  I know that if I save the Map as a file, then the Dictionary is saved also.   The issue I've encountered is if I save just a layer file that uses a Dictionary for labeling, then the Dictionary does not get saved also.  Hence, when I add the layer file, what I get is what you see in the attached image, whereby the Labeling Properties says the Dictionary is applied, but the Dictionary did not get saved also. I work for a Forestry company, and offline collection of points and line features is important.  We are conducting a trial using Collector and another third party software product.  I've been doing GIS for 32 years, and while I still have tons to learn, I have great supporting staff, and am not afraid to reach out for help. Here's my quandary:  For the past 4-5 weeks, I've been working with Esri Tech Support - a great courteous person I might add - but they have not been able to fix all the problems.  I could go over all the issues (there have been several), but once we fix one, another pops up.  We are now getting an error when Syncing, and the tech person is not sure why.  This is essentially a show stopper. My question is simply:  Are other folks having a long drawn out process getting Collector to work?  Do you feel like the effort may not be worth the time?  Is this software ready for prime time?  Honestly, I'd like to use Collector, but am close to uninstalling the software. I've started working with Navigator, and noticed that although the map I use in ArcGIS Pro permits scaling out, Navigator restricts how far I can zoom out.  Ideally, I would like to be able to zoom out to see my entire route before starting navigation, but this is not possible on the three Mobile Map Packages I have created thus far. We have a few Portal mapping apps that we are using, and with my personal Samsung Galaxy 6S, the pan works just fine.  With my work phone, the Samsung Galaxy 9, the pan option does not work.  Unfortunately, there are several other Samsung Galaxy 9 phones in our organization. The only wild guess I can make is that it may be related to the Galaxy 9's curved screen.  This may not be the issue, it's just a guess. Has anybody had issues with panning Portal maps? Hi, I installed X-Ray, and was following the steps on this web page. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/localgovernment/10.1/index.html#/Migrating_your_data_to_the_Local_Government_geodatabase/028s00000049000000/ However, I don't see an XML  document in the Contents tab after I create my new LocalGovernment file gdb. FROM ESRI HELP: In the Contents window, click the LocalGovernment.xml workspace document. This will load it into the X-Ray XML Workspace Document parameter. I've been able to successfully save two of my maps, but when I look at the last date modified, it stays the same:  March 8,2012.  Any idea what the problem could be? The changes I make to the map are reflected, but the data modified piece is strange. Thanks. keith ... View more

I've done quite a bit of searching on this topic.  I thought by enabling Geodata Access, I could export a shapefile. We are going to expose a large number of map services that can be consumed by others in our community using ArcMap.  These folks are not programmers.  I want to be able to give them the ability to add a map service to ArcMap and then to export a shapefile from the layer within ArcMap. I cannot figure how to do this.  If anybody knows of a way that does not require programming, please help.
