this has been an interesting thread. I was wondering if anyone has been able to dyamically change the fields that are availabe for editing during different stages, i.e: 1) create new features : all attribute fields are editable 2) update existing features: only some fields are editable would appreciate if anyone could point out if this is possible and which event should be used to capture this? thanks mei

I was wondering if it's possible to show all the selected features' attributes in a datagrid instead of the paged GUI in the sample? Where should we make this GUI change if it's possible, because I don't understand where the GUI formatting in the sample is being defined. any advice would be appreciated. thanks

HI Casey i would like to implement something like you mentioned, ie, an attribute only editing functionality in the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex for both map features and stand-alone tables, where the user can do a selection of many features on the map and the attributes of all the selected features would populate a more appropriate GUI (like a datagrid). Looking at the samples (the attribute inspector outside of the map sample), I'm not sure how this can be implemented. Would you be able to share the steps on how you achieved your customized editing template (instead of using the AttributeInspector)? Also, is there a way in which we can stop the auto-posting of changed attribute values in the Attribute Inspector? Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Hi I have a published map service which has 2 main group layers (the map service cannot be split into 2 separate map services). Depending on who is viewing the map application (there is code which checks for who is accessing the map application), is it possible to just show only 1 of the group layers at a time? ie: in the mxd: the layers would be: Layers Group1 layer1 layer2 Group2 layerA layerB So in the application, when users from Group1 open the LiveMapsWidget, the TOC would show: MapServiceName Group1 layer1 layer2 while users from Group2 would see: MapServiceName Group2 layerA layerB any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

mei76, What you are attempting to do is just a simple spatial query. Look at this example http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisserver/apis/flex/samples/index.html?sample=ShowPointsWithinMapExtent It is querying points based on the current maps extent but the principle is the same for your requirements instead of the using the map extent geometry as the spatial portion of the query you would just pass the water catchment polygon to the query and the query would be using the hydrological features as the layer to query. Thanks Robert. I already understand that there's a sample of that. What I was trying to find out is whether it was possible to just send 1 query to the server, instead of looping for every water catchment polygon, since that would mean n number of queries to the server, which won't be efficient. Also, if this is possible, can the returned results be grouped by each catchment?

You can loop over the feature layer's graphicProvider to iterate over each Graphic in the layer, but an easier solution could be to use the feature layer's selectFeatures() method. You can give it a Query object who's geometry is the Extent you want to be selected. Reference: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/flex/apiref/com/esri/ags/layers/FeatureLayer.html#selectFeatures() If we are using ArcGIS Server 9.3.1, and ARCGIS Flex API 1.3, is this available? for eg: 1 feature class has all the country's water catchment polygons 1 feature class has all the different hydrological features (rivers, tributaries etc) what should be done to have an efficient query to do the following: for each water catchment polygon, find the hydrological features and display this in a datagrid. any advice would be much help, since i don't think looping through each water catchment polygon is efficient. thanks
