I have 10.3.1 and Google Earth is definitely not part of the imagery. I talked to an ESRI guy about that and he said he has been in discussions with Google for 2 years without much success. They are closer, but not there yet. I have not tried the add-in tool. It states you have to be in data view for it to work. That won’t work for me. I will continue to georeference exported Google Earth imagery (I do have a pro license). No idea what an API license is. Or what API is. Margaret Gooding, GIS/Graphics Dept. I have the same issues. We are running ArcGIS 10.3.1 and most of the folks using ArcReader have older versions. This should be an enhancement - you should be able to specify which version of ArcReader you want to publish to.

We have had a license for Pro for years… I always put Google Earth as the source on my maps Margaret Gooding, GIS/Graphics Dept. I have been using ArcMap since the first beta versions. I use it on a daily basis and have for many years. I am an expert at georeferencing. The question I answered was specifically regarding Google Earth imagery, not other basemap imagery (which I use daily). Often, Google Earth imagery has better resolution and is newer than any of the ESRI/Bing imagery available. That is why I save an image from Google Earth Pro (highest resolution) and bring it into a map and georeference it. We do a lot of work with relatively small projects where we need the latest imagery possible (that does not cost anything). I use Google Earth imagery nearly every day and georeference it to Bing aerials since that works. World Imagery will crash ArcMap if you use the auto registration tool, but Bing does not. I use whatever will give me the best results for the map I am creating. Margaret Gooding, GIS/Graphics Dept. You cannot use it directly (like you can one of the map services offered from ESRI). You can save an image from Google Earth and georeference it.

If you want to use Google Earth Imagery in ArcMap, you need to make sure you have your vertical exaggeration set to as close to zero as possible. Google Earth Pro is now free, so you can save imagery at the highest resolution. Zoom in to your area of interest, save as image. Bring the image into ArcMap and georeference it. If you have a license for Bing Aerials, then you can use the auto registration tool (make sure you do not have World Imagery in your map document or it will crash) to georeference your aerial. If you are zoomed in for many areas, the Google Imagery will have better resolution than the same zoom level in Bing (or World Imagery). Since we often use aerial imagery to digitize data from, it is important for us to have the best resolution we can get. I often will download several Google Earth images and mosaic them together using the auto register tool so I get better resolution for a larger area.

I agree, Bing is simply not good enough for a lot of uses. Google Earth is usually much more recent and has better resolution when zoomed in. We often use 1:2400 for our maps. We need more recent aerials than Bing provides.

I am using ArcMap 10.1 and want to make the first line of a text box (map annotation) bold and the next two lines not bold. I used the form: <BOL>Ethanac O/H*</BOL> Access Caltrans ROW SW of RR & I-215 from Case Rd It did not bold the first line with the remainder not bold. It just displayed all of it as if it were regular text. Ethanac O/H* should be bold. It is not and the words BOL show up.
