No, the language in the bill has not changed. Section 11 b and c are still the same: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/1253/text . Perhaps the language in 36.601-4 in the FAR's has changed? https://www.acquisition.gov/far/html/Subpart%2036_6.html#wp1075548 mike

Thanks Darren! That does the trick and results in a shapefile with the one changed field. If I want to bring over the others as is, I would loop through each to create a field map and then add them to the field mappings variable. Then I would have a shapefile with all the fields and the one I changed too.

Wow, that's a lot of tools to use! I'm getting closer in my code, but cannot change the field length so far: >>> fm.outputField.name u'CITY_NAME' >>> fm.outputField.length 25 >>> fm.outputField.length = 100 >>> fm.outputField.length 25

My goal is to take a shapefile, change the length of one of the text fields, and save a new shapefile using arcpy.FeatureClassToFeatureClass_conversion. You can do it using the tool's interface, just add a shapefile to it and the fields are listed, right click on a field to change it's properties and change the field length, then save to a new shapefile. But how to do that using code? I think you have to manipulate the field mapping to do it, but I cannot seem to find where you make the change for a particular field. So far I have: >>> inshp = "c:/temp/test1.shp" >>> fms = arcpy.FieldMappings() >>> fms.addTable(inshp) >>> fms.fieldCount 6 >>> fm = fms.getFieldMap(0) >>> fm.getInputFieldName(0) u'CITY_NAME' So how do I change the field length for the CITY_NAME field and save it back to the field mapping? Once that is done, I guess you put the field mapping back into the tool: arcpy.FeatureClassToFeatureClass_conversion(inshp, "c:/temp", "test2.shp", "", field_mapping=fms)

It is working now. You must have a security group setup that is shared by both instances and configure the security group to allow port 445. In the EC2 Dashboard in the Security Groups section, I edited the Inbound tab of the security group and added a "Custom TCP Rule", set to port 445, and limited it to the private IP address ranges of my instances. I logged in to the first instance and setup the drive share to be "D" for all users read only. Then I logged into the second instance and mapped a network drive using \\private_IP\D to the first instance. When you map to the drive, it will ask for your login and password on that instance and then you can view the contents of the drive.

Your statement assumes I am using one of the software I reviewed, which is incorrect. It also shows you, President of Arc2Earth, are promoting your product, and there is nothing bad in that, but using scare tactics are not appreciated.

I have two Amazon AWS instances running Windows 2012 and both have attached EBS drives. I would like one of the instances, lets say INST01 to share it's D drive with INST02. INST02 has ArcGIS Server running on it and I would like it to access data on the D drive on INST01. I thought all I would have to do is share the D drive on INST01 with the share name "D", then on INST02 just map a network drive to \\server\share like \\INST01\D, but that does not work. I then thought I would need to use the internal IP, or what Amazon calls "private IP", for INST01, like \\172.31.44.60\D, but that did not work. I even tried using the public IP assinged to INST01, but that did not work. Finally I tried using the instance ID, like \\i-c3bb29d7\D, but again that did not work. I must be missing something in the setup that Amazon is not allowing this simple task to work on my servers. Anyone have a VERY CLEAR step by step example on how to set this up? It would be greatly appreciated!

I tried that tool. I am using ArcMap 10.1. The tool works for about 8 minutes, then ArcMap freezes and closes. I start a new ArcMap session and the same thing happens. Too bad, this tool is helpful if it works.

Hi Marko. I see you are using ArcGIS Server 10.1 and ArcGIS Desktop 10.2. I believe for things to work together, all your ArcGIS software needs to be of the same version ... at least that is what ESRI says when they release a new version or service pack. That being said, you should be able to find the proper ST_GEOMETRY.SO file for your Linux server under your ArcGIS Server 10.1 install directory (its in a directory like arcgis/server/databasesupport/postgresql) and place it your PostgreSQL lib directory. Just follow the instructions for a Linux server here: '>http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/Setting_up_a_geodatabase_in_PostgreSQL/002p00000001000000/ I also noticed that you are using Linux CentOS 6.0. I don't think that is supported. See http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/system-requirements/10.1/index.html#/PostgreSQL_Database_Requirements/015100000075000000/ .
