I have a geoprocessing service that runs fine when I invoke through ArcMap but when Invoke it through the browser I get the following error: { "error": { "code": 400, "message": "Unable to complete operation.", "details": [ ] } } Just to be sure I was getting params correct I ran through the web interface and ran into the same problem. Any ideas how to debug or why this error may occur?

Thanks Jay, but I politely disagree. If I am solving for length it means that there is no other route (given the same network and parameters) that is shorter. Yet, when I change the impedance characteristic to exposure and solve (with the same network and parameters) it produces a shorter route. Technically the path is correct in that it get you from A to B but it is clearly not optimal as there is another one that produces a lower aggregate impedance. I think this is a problem. Upon further sleuthing I found the culprit to be the avoid/prefer restrictions. When they were turned off the router works as expected - routes generated with a length impedance were shorter than those with an exposure impedance and routes generated with an exposure impedance had lower cumulative exposures than routes with a length impedance. In general, I find the avoid/prefer restrictions to be a bit "black boxy." Instead I have started to create my own cost attributes and modify them to reflect the avoid/prefer restrictions and turned off those restrictions when solving. For example, you can create a cost attribute based on length but multiply it by some constant less than 1 (say .9) for segments that you would prefer. Similarly, you could multiply the cost attribute by a constant greater than 1 (say 1.1) for avoid segments. If you want to increase preference or avoidance either decrease or increase the constant accordingly. This gives you greater transparency and granularity of control.

Hi, I am using ArcMap 10.4.1 with NA. I generate 2 routes with the exact same start and end points, network dataset and restrictions. In the first case I use Length as an impedance and in the second case I use Exposure. This is the only difference. For some reason, however, the exposure in the second is significantly higher than the first. In other similar instances (with different start and end points) the exposure in the second may be lower than the first, but the length is actually greater for the route where length is set as impedance than it is where exposure is set as an impedance. How is this possible? Am I using impedance incorrectly? Thanks

I had this error. When I took the space out of the cost attribute name it fixed it.

Thanks Joe and Dan. I figured out the issue. For style name it was defaulting to "NA Desktop" which outputs only the first route. To output all routes you need to set the style to "NA Navigation".

I am using network analyst in ArcMap 10.2 to generate multiple routes (appx 100). When I export directions as xml using arcpy.Directions_na it only produces directions for one of the 100 routes not all 100. Any ideas? Thanks

I am using ArcMap Desktop 10.2.1. Python window was working fine then one day I opened the python window and got the following text in the window: "F1 show help for current cursor location. F2 check the syntax of the current line (or code block if in multiple line mode). ESC cancels the current operation. Shift or Control Return will enter multiple line mode. To exit multiple line mode (execute the code block) enter Return on the last line. Access the history of commands using the up and down arrows on the last line. Right click in the command pane for additional options." No prompt. I don't seem to be able to enter any commands. Any ideas? Thanks

When I try and load an application from AGOL - I get the following error in the console: XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Topo_Map/MapServer?f=json. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'http://[domain].maps.arcgis.com' is therefore not allowed access. where [domain] is my company domain. The problem occurs only in Chrome and only in certain instances of Chrome. Security folk swear all installs are the same. I see the threads talking about this when you are writing the JS (i.e. How to use Cross Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) from ArcGIS API Javascript Application? - Geographic Information Systems… ) . Any guesses or suggestions on how to handle / troubleshoot when you are using an AGOL app? Is it possible that this is a red herring and that it is actually masking another problem? Thanks
